-
You beauty!!!
-
yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! Going to have a great weekend now. Chuffed.
-
Just an immense result and other results have gone for us too. Great day. Well done Villa, well done Tim!!
-
Sanchez - what a dick!
Great result.
-
A great Saturday!
Even the Albion result isn't too bad - as it drags them in!
And a Villa fan rides the National winner!
-
It's laughable we could play someone as good as Spurs and win.
-
Sherwood's a genius, he trains the winner of the Grand National and gets an away win at Spuds all in the same afternoon. ;)
-
COME OOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!
MASSIVE result is an understatement.
Well done Sherwood.
-
Never expected that...get in. Well done lads.
-
I feel like my life expectancy is considerably less than it was this morning!
-
What a f*ckin' win! Results around us have gone pretty well too.
-
Tim's best result so far. Deserved it as well - wanted it more than Spurs did. It's a huge result.
-
What a result
Just need Arsenal to do the business now vs Burnley and Lester aside that will be a great set of results for us.
-
Oh yes my beauties. Just got into the car from airport to hear the good news FANTASTIC👌👌👌
-
Sanchez - what a dick!
Great result.
He played very well today, red card aside.
-
And to think some were saying we were mad not to be going for Tiny Penis as manager who would guarantee our safety.
Roll on next weekend, my ticket arrived today. HAPPY DAYS.
-
With the other results today, that's a massive step towards safety. Full credit to Tim, thought it was a dodgy line up. Well done to Vlaar and Baker who haven't played much recently. UTV,
-
Absolutely brilliant result. Sherwood is breathing new life - and more importantly, self-belief - into this team
-
Sherwood's a genius, he trains the winner of the Grand National and gets an away win at Spuds all in the same afternoon. ;)
Sharp!!
-
Whoopie flamin' do
-
What a f*ckin' win! Results around us have gone pretty well too.
More than pretty well. Baggies back in with tough run in and massive pressure on the rest after Leicester
-
Massive result that especially with what happened elsewhere.
-
Never really in doubt. We wanted it more and what fantastic battling quality we showed. On top of that we looked as good as we have all season, moving the ball well, plenty of movement and fully deserving the three points.
Shame Sanchez lost his head but the ref should have blown twice before for Rose kicking his way through our players.
-
Awesome. Spurs shown up for what they are. Not that good.
-
Massive win today, and the other results have helped too, Need QPR and burnley to lose now, we aren't safe yet but getting very close with these three points. Get in!
-
8)
Happy with that.
-
Hurray!!!!!
Thanks Tim, and all the lads!
You were immense!
Well done the Villa fans for the noise!
What a result
-
That'll Do. ;D
-
Sanchez - what a dick!
Great result.
He played very well today, red card aside.
Normally I am a fan of Sanchez, but I thought he was all kinds of bad today
-
Right come on Arsenal and Chelsea. Complete a brilliant weekend.
-
Sanchez - what a dick!
Great result.
He played very well today, red card aside.
still bloody stupid to do what he did, with the injury list growing and big games to play. And he gave the ball away too much for my liking.
-
Table
13 Newcastle 31 -16 35
14 West Brom 32 -16 33
15 Aston Villa 33 -21 32
16 Sunderland 32 -23 29
17 Hull 32 -16 28
18 QPR 32 -20 26
19 Burnley 31 -23 26
20 Leicester 31 -19 25
-
4pts was what we wanted at least from the games this week and we got it. Even if it happened in the reverse order.
-
Fucked em over, yippppeeeeeee
-
Sanchez - what a dick!
Great result.
He played very well today, red card aside.
Normally I am a fan of Sanchez, but I thought he was all kinds of bad today
He's still relatively new to the league. And the pace gets to him sometimes. But for a player who cost 4/5 mm tops that's what you get in today's market.
-
Great first half performance, not so good in the 2nd half but given someone had a word with the ref at half time we were still the more likely to get another goal and they didn't create a good chance all game.
Been wanting to say this for a while but didn't want to jinx things too much, Kane is ridiculously overrated, he's scored a lot this year but I guarantee he'll retire with a 1 in 4/5 record at this level, let him take a touch in the box and he's a good finisher but if you get close to him and make him try to do something he's not good enough to create chances from nothing, unlike the beast at the other end who showed what a genuine world class striker looks like in this league.
Bentaleb is a dirty fucker who should have been off.
-
Perfect, come on Arsenal
-
West Brom 2-3 Leicester
Former Tottenham striker Garth Crooks
Final Score
"The Leicester goal puts the cat among the pigeons. It's all to play for at the bottom. It's extraordinary. Also, Villa are putting in one of the best performances I've seen this season - it will be the result of the day, because it means so much."
-
Fucked em over, yippppeeeeeee
This
-
Great result!
Always nice to mash them spuds but we really needed the 3 points today and deserved them too.

Like the first game, Spuds were very niggly.
-
For me that was our performance of the season. Given the injuries we had going into the game, and the injuries we picked up, and the fact we had half fit players carrying on til the end, that was an exceptional effort from the lads.
Everyone bar Sanchez played well I thought. I did think Sanchez was unfortunate to get that red, in as much as we should have had a freekick just before hand when Rose mullered two of our players, but it's the sort of stupid, 10 minutes late challenge Carlos makes all the time, and he got persistently caught on the ball.
Guzan- 7 Solid as a rock.
Bacuna- 7 Did well today. Caught a few times but generally solid, and he got forward well. Brilliant cross for the goal.
Vlaar- 10 Imperious. Can he stay fit for the last 5 games though?
Clark- 7 Gutted to see him go off. Thankfully it's one of the few positions we have cover in.
Rico- 7 Given the stick he's got, he had a good game. Shaky start but recovered well and lasted 90 minutes well. Kept Andtoss quiet.
Cleverley- 9 Brilliant display. Sign him up.
Sanchez- 4 Poor. Contentious reffing led to his red, but you play to the whistle, and it was a dumb challenge. Slow, lethargic and caught consistently.
Delph- 8 Good Captain display.
Gabby- 7 Dangerous.
Grealish- 6 Good on the ball, but today wasn't a game for a tip of the diamond player. He didn't get in the game as much. I'd have had him playing wider.
Benteke- 9 Superb.
Baker- 10. Pushed Vlaar close for MOTM.
Weimann- 5. Should have done better with that chance. In fairness to him he seemed to pick up an injury quickly, but played on till the end.
Cole- 6. Showed experience and composure.
Great display (almost) all round. I think this is the result that keeps us up. I think we've got more points to come, but to pull off a surprise result is always a great help.
-
I was swearing at the radio when Baker came on ahead of Okore but he proved me wrong - great heading performance.
What a massive 3 points - we can play the next couple with a lot less pressure now, which in turn may yield a point or two.
I take it Sanchez is out of the semi now?
-
Su-bloody-perb.
-
Apart from Benteke who spent all afternoon pissing on Fazio and Dier, though Cleverley, Vlaar, Baker and Sanchez (until his sending off) were all very good.
Injury list is a concern, but who gives a shit about that for now.
-
Massive result - 6 gap between us and the trap door in a fixture many wouldn't have expected us to get anything from.
Interesting to see the players that have been getting stick stand up to justify their starting spots. Sanchez, Vlaar and Richardson all played very well.
Just hope we can patch everybody up for next week now.
-
Normal service resumed - we really should be beating these types of clubs week in, week out. Well done Tim and the boys, on to the next match.
-
I haven't taken real drugs for decades, but from what I recall, that was better. Absolutely buzzing.
I honestly didn't think Spurs were much to worry about after taking a bit of notice of them (for the first time this season) last week v Burnley, and so it proved.
-
That will have tasted pretty sweet to Sherwood, and all credit to him. He deserves it based on the way the team played.
-
That was a life changing result for our club. I know Benteke had a wonderful first half but Ron Vlaar was totally magnificent in both halves.
-
Ron Vlaar simply magnificent.
-
Sanchez - what a dick!
Great result.
He played very well today, red card aside.
Normally I am a fan of Sanchez, but I thought he was all kinds of bad today

For that money you should expect better. There's being a little off the pace, and there's being a country mile off the pace. Aside from a couple of months in the middle of the season, he's looked no better than Sylla. In fact I'd take the Sylla from the run in two years ago over Sanchez any day of the week.
-
It's laughable we could play someone as good as Spurs and win.
Who's laughing now??? Who's laughing now??? ;D
*no severed arms were harmed in the making of this post
-
Well done players, manager and supporters - great scenes at the end
It feels like we can go to Wembley next week with some weight off our shoulders and just play a one-off game
Thanks lads...
-
Massive boost for the team now leading up to the semi with a bit of the pressure lifted.
-
Vlaar was outstanding today.
-
fucking YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
-
A great Saturday!
Even the Albion result isn't too bad - as it drags them in!
And a Villa fan rides the National winner!
Excellent!!
-
Great to hear the Spurs fans around Jack Woodward and Ken McNaught givung out al sorts of abuse at the end abd McNaught turning to them and " now now". Well would you?
-
Well deserved.
One more win needed really looking at the Hull and Sunderland results.
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
-
Normal service resumed - we really should be beating these types of clubs week in, week out.
As you said on the pre match if I remember!
-
Get the fuck in! Great performance and result from a boss who is working wonders so far. And a perfect set of results elsewhere as well. What a brilliant weekend. That's a very difficult away game out of the way. Superb stuff.
-
This result takes the league pressure off a little , which means we can 100% prepare for taking on Stevie's bin dippers.
-
Great performance and well deserved. Apart from the save from Rose in the first half, Brad didn't have much to do. We created chances and should have won by more.
Baker and Vlaar were immense and fair play to Richardson as well as he was steady throughout.
Thought Cleverely was MOM in the first half, but overall would go for Vlaar as MOM.
Oh Christian Benteke - Was immense particularly first half
I thought Sanchez did ok. he makes me nervous everytime he gets the ball
Albion's run in is horrendous. they are very much in it now!
Cant wait for next week
-
Been Ill in bed all day so just seen result. Brilliant. Nice to beat spurs for first time since 2008 too.....
-
Well deserved.
One more win needed really looking at the Hull and Sunderland results.
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
yes, second yellow = off.
-
Well deserved.
One more win needed really looking at the Hull and Sunderland results.
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
Was it a straight red?
-
Well deserved.
One more win needed really looking at the Hull and Sunderland results.
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
It was his second booking I think.
-
Hope I'm not putting too much on it to say this was potentially not only a season but an era defining result for the club. 3 points where no-one expected it, hopefully pressure off for the FA Cup and if (Mcgrath forbid) we do lose that we can build on our league position, stay safe and hopefully things will look rosier come the summer transfer window. Especially if the Baggies go down with Leicester (and Hull since Spurs, United and Chelsea are mathematically safe).
-
I think I've just shot my load.
Sherwood I love you already.
-
Well deserved.
One more win needed really looking at the Hull and Sunderland results.
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
Neither do I considering Rose (their best player) had just got away with two bookable challenges.
I forgot Carlos had been booked earlier. But at least he held up the play.
-
I thought Baker did very well when he came on.
-
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
Second booking wasn't it?
-
I'm also pleased to see that we're closing the gap in term of goals scored. One behind Sunderland and closing on Hull and Burnley. I don't think we'll be finishing bottom of the goals chart. Good job Timmy.
-
Big result and a bonus with the other results
Boggies not happy with Pulis I gather
-
Tim's win ratio at Spurs since he got the boot - 100%. Hahaha...
What a result and great that everyone else lost too - I don't think Leicester can catch us so nice to drag the Albion into the mix. Their fans are getting very nervous...
-
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
Second booking wasn't it?
Yeah. I think that red has been coming to be honest. He's late to so many challenges and he's been an accident waiting to happen. It's unfortunate given we should have had a freekick just before that, but as a pro you play to the whistle, and you certainly don't make a clumsy challenge like that when you're already on a yellow.
-
Gareth Crooks thinks we will be safe if we beat liverpool next week! Fuck me!
-
Just as they were at VP, Spurs are a dirty, niggling side. They got what they deserved out of this game, nothing. It should have been at least 3-0.
The sheer blood and guts battling from the team alone was worth the points. We didn't concede a meaningful shot at Guzan's goal all afternoon. The only downside was two off injured and several hobbling at the final whistle. Sanchez was a double yellow, he will miss the semi but will be back for the next league game.
Christ knows who we will field next week. Maybe a NextGen reunion team led by Grealish.
Very bad day for the Albion. Leicester was their last chance saloon for stick-on points, they have a nightmare run-in. As do a few of the others around us.
-
Toss up between Vlaar or Cleverley for MOTM for me. Cleverley didn't put a foot wrong and Vlaar was back to his best today.
Thrilled it had to be Benteke that got the goal but we should of been out of sight via Delph who simply had to score.
Oh well 10 points from 24 now and things are looking much better!!
-
I haven't taken real drugs for decades, but from what I recall, that was better. Absolutely buzzing.
I honestly didn't think Spurs were much to worry about after taking a bit of notice of them (for the first time this season) last week v Burnley, and so it proved.
I have. And I can confirm that it is better. This will still feel amazing in the morning.
-
What a superb team performance, didn't play great but battled throughout and fully deserved victory. Benteke was amazing up front, Delph and Cleverley ran the midfield, Baker was superb when he came on, but Ron Vlaar just beats them to my MOTM. He may be on his way but he was brilliant. I thought Sanchez had an average game and lost his head with that booking cos the dopey ref let Rose kick his way through two Villa players without giving a free kick. Great results all round so far as brings the Baggies back into the equation. Lets hope the injuries to Gabby and Clark (did anyone hear Tony "I know everything" Gale saying early on that if Clark carries on his form he may get a chance with England.) are not too bad
-
Benteke just just just just fcukin amazing
-

Both Weimann and Delph should have scored . Cleverley, as he always, does put in an enormous shift.
-
A big shout to the villa fans today who I thought were fuckin immense. .!!
-
Gareth Crooks thinks we will be safe if we beat liverpool next week! Fuck me!
He does know there are no points up for grabs doesn't he?
It was a second booking for Sanchez. The first was when Probert held up 5 fingers to him to say repeated fouling. Sanchez shouldn't have dived in but Probert lost control of the game when he kept letting fouls go towards the end. I'm not sure what it is with this fixture - the ref lost control in the home game too.
-
Massive win. Two more wins and 38 points will do it. I have been saying for weeks that three teams will go down with very low points totals. No way will three of the five teams below us get forty points. Looking at their run ins they will all struggle to get 35.
-
Beer will be supped tonight - bloody fantastic win!!!!
-
Weimann's was difficult because of the angle, he should of held the play up and passed, Delph was clean through one on one.
-
I can't remember Spurs having a really decent chance. On the other hand we could have won 3-0 today. Gabby was unlucky to hit the post and Delph should have scored.
-
I'm loving the fact that Smethwicks season has imploded since the cup defeat.
-
Great to see them really fighting like lions.
Great win.
-
You forget just what a difference a Villa win makes to your weekend! MOTD on record as friends for dinner, it's a lovely sunny evening here and all is well with the world. Absolutely brilliant feeling
-
A big shout to the villa fans today who I thought were fuckin immense. .!!
They deserve that result.
-
Alan giving it loads on the radio ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Tonight, we are all Tim Sherwood.
-
Don't see West Brom going down.
-

Wouldn't surprise me if we end up being safe on our current total.
-
Beer will be supped tonight - bloody fantastic win!!!!
Copious amounts for me, hopefully Mike. Also, not caring if they have the football on in the pub or not. Last week I had to suffer the Manure game on a friggin Sky loop!
-
Think 35 will do it. So another win and a draw.
Of course, if we get that early enough we could finish the season well.
-

I said on the pre-match thread that I fancied us to win if we defender better than against QPR. We did that & we should have been more comfortable. We're another step nearer safety & the Albion are back in it, their run in is tough.
Referee was a gobshite, 7mins + & should have had 2 fouls before the Sanchez 2nd booking.

We're on 32 so only need another 3.
-
Was it 36 that has kept us up in the last 2 seasons? I think that will be about the mark again this year. Looking forward to taking my 2 lads on their first trip to see villa at Wembley next week with some of the pressure removed.
-
One our best and most important wins in a long time. We deserved that it wasn't a smash a grab.
-
What a result
Just need Arsenal to do the business now vs Burnley and Lester aside that will be a great set of results for us.
The Leicester win isn't bad for us - it means we have a chance of finishing above Albion and Leicester are still 7 points behind us. Also Albion's fixture list is pretty tough, so they're not clear of relegation yet.
-
Poor yellow to concede by Sanchez but not sure why all the negative comments. He was nearly setantas man of the match but they gave it to bent eke...
Great result for the lads. Everyone gave their all...
Just need burnley to lose now...
-
Sanchez is fine until about 70 minutes. We'll miss him against Liverpool.
-
Burnley losing.
-
If fit, I would play Clark in Sanchez position next Sunday.
-
Great team performance
Sanchez does give the ball away to much,
but this is exaggerated on the match thread because when he does it 15 posters tell us he's done it,
I saw Delph, Wieman, Richardson, Benteke also pass to the opposition with not a single comment from anyone
he's not great at ball retention, but he does do other things like break a lot of play up, and put himself about, to much in his case today
I think he's become a bit of a scapegoat with Richardson, an easy option to moan about, I thought they were both reasonable today
-
I've done a predictor and we'lll be safe.
Aston Villa 38 -22 40
Newcastle 38 -16 38
Hull 38 -14 35
West Brom 38 -15 35
Burnley 38 -23 34
Leicester 38 -20 33
Sunderland 38 -20 33
QPR 38 -20 30
-
Massive massive massive win.
-
Everyone played well, but Baker and Vlaar were absolutely superb, rock solid. Also, now that he has more passing options ahead of him, Cleverley finally looks a player.
A brilliant away performance, and I'm warming to Sherwood more and more. He may be far from the finished article, but he's articulate and positive, and the team look like they know what they're meant to be doing.
-
I thought Soldado was close to being our man of the match.
-
I thought Soldado was close to being our man of the match.
Hahaha yes. Colossal waste of money this fella

This sums up Sherwood for me too.

I think possession of the ball is something Sanchez is normally very good at.

Carlos gave my ticker a torrid time as per usual. He gives it away as much as he wins it back and he does it in dangerous positions. I think he's too much of a liability for me. Anytime he's on a yellow it's heart in mouth with some of his challenges. Sometimes he's that late that he gets nowhere near the player (thankfully). On this occasion he caught Rose and get a Red that I think he's been due this season. He's not a dirty player, just very clumsy.
I think we can just about handle a 2 man with Delph and Cleverley, thanks to their mobility. Ideally Westwood would be back soon.
Alternatively, if Cissokho is fit, I'd consider putting Richardson in as the anchorman. He did okay there in the first few games. As maligned as Rico is, he did okay today.
-
I thought Sanchez 'took one for the team' with that second yellow - probably knowing it would cost him his semi final place too. Top man.
I had a feeling we'd get something out of the game today as we're totally motivated right now to stay up, but Spurs players clearly couldn't care less about another season in the Europa, which is all they have to 'play for'.
-
I thought Soldado was close to being our man of the match.
Hahaha yes. Colossal waste of money this fella
Soldapup more like
-

Scary to think that had Spurs offered us what they paid Valencia for him that Benteke would probably have ended up at Spurs after that first season with us.

I don't know if he's that quick of thought. They were on a counter, but still hadn't crossed the half way line. I don't think it's clever to make a challenge like that. If they're 30-40 yards out and you absolutely have to, it's different.
We still had time to recover ground. It was clumsy as much as anything.
-
Sanchez should not have had to be put in that position, the ref was letting Rose kick his way through two challenges before he was given a bit of his own medicine
-

I think 8 points from 5 games is pretty optimistic.
I think 5/6 points will be enough, but would want them before we face Burnley - for some reason I don't fancy us for that one.
-
Sanchez should not have had to be put in that position, the ref was letting Rose kick his way through two challenges before he was given a bit of his own medicine
The ref was awful. But it's not an excuse. You play to the whistle. It's exactly the sort of challenge Sanchez keeps on trying to make. Sometimes he's a day late and the players well past him. But if he does catch them it's probably going to be a yellow. Sadly it was his second of the game.
-

8 is doable though, West Ham, Everton and Burnley at home all have potential points, and I listened to the Saints game on the radio today and they laboured to their win over a truly awful Hull.
-
Great result. At the present moment, would any of you swop Benteke for any other striker in the Prem. I wouldn't.

Maybe he didn't have his best game, but not sure he was as bad as you have been suggesting. Maybe it is worth thinking of the positives we had in a great team performance

How many more posts are you going to make in this thread about Sanchez. I think you have made your point.

Lost in this a little is how brilliant Nathan Baker was and how really good he has become. I always thought he has everything a PL CB would ever want. He's brave, big, strong, reckless at times. What he needed was some intelligence and composure. Well like Clark he's come on leaps and bounds and for him to step in today and play as well as he did is impressive. Playing next to Vlaar in that kind of form also helps a bit but fair dues to him for the improvement he has shown this season.
-
Brilliant result. Another step towards safety!
Roll on Wembley - can't bloody wait!!

Absolutely. He's been our most improved player this season, along with Clark, who has also turned into a really solid defender.

I'm already buzzing about Wembley now, this week is going to drag!

Great win and I am really warming to Sherwood. We can go into the semi final with confidence and not have to worry about the league programme that weekend.
Benteke has been immense in the last few games. He's back to his very best.

What's pleasing is that after a long injury, Nath could slip back in today and carry on playing as well as he was earlier in the season. There might have been a worry he'd slip back into old habits or take a while to settle again. Actually today was probably his best ever performance in a Villa shirt. Aboslutely brilliant and only eclipsed by Ron.

In trying to get out of Vlaar's back pocket today, he was trampling all over a crumpled up piece of Lionel Messi.
-
Well deserved.
One more win needed really looking at the Hull and Sunderland results.
I'd appeal the Sanchez red aswell, I don't think that was any more than a yellow personally.
I'm pretty sure it was a 2nd yellow, in which case it can't be appealed.
-
Fucking fuckers fucking fucked.
Fucking great stuff, from Timbo and the lads. Up the Villa!

Vlaar and Baker do play very well as a partnership.
I'm pleased that Baker picked up where he was before his injury.

I think Sanchez is this season's Helenius for tom.
For every complaint about him getting caught in possession, look at the situations he receives it in.
When it happens he's usually the only one showing for a teammate in trouble with 2 opposition players trying to share his shorts.
The bigger questions are.
1. Why does he keep ending up in these positions?
and
2. How big are his bollocks to not go hiding after continually finding himself in those situations?
-
Ok so a few points...
1. People should get off sanchezs back. He was ok today, not great but ok. He may well have saved the three points with that foul and shaped the future of the club by keeping us up.
2. Richardson was clearly struggling against qpr and got his ass handed to him. He stood up and was counted today, so fair play.
3. Joe Cole still has something to offer. When he gets on he always seems to pick the right pass or hold on to the ball and win a free kick. He should probably be here next season, grealish will learn a lot from him.
4. I have criticised cleverley previously but sherwood has unlocked the potential in him. Sign him up now.

We are best in the world! We have beaten Spurs! Tottingham, birthplace of giants...Alan Sugar, Phil Collins, Gary Lineker, Harry Redknapp, Terry Venables, Osvaldo Ardilles, Ricky Villa, Glenn Hoddle, Jimmy Greaves...your boys took a Hell of a beating !!
or something like that :)

I hope there's more talk today about how good Benteke was, rather than how quiet Kane was.

Damn right. I've got a Spurs supporter friend coming round for dinner tonight. Biggest decision now is which Villa shirt to wear this evening.

Sherwood was praising him after the game, saying "He sacrificed himself for the team"
I still think Sanchez will prove to be a good buy.
Certainly agree with 4. Cleverly has seemed to have stepped up a couple of levels since Tim was bought in.
-
Great result. At the present moment, would any of you swop Benteke for any other striker in the Prem. I wouldn't.
Nope. He's scored more goals than anybody else in the league since Sherwood arrived.

All of them. Change at regular intervals.

Villa, you bunch of sods. Where did that come from?

To think Radio WM & Albion fans thought Brown Ideye is better than Benteke. Would they swop now?

I'd also add:
5- Guzan is number one. There's been some question to his place at the moment. Granted his form has dipped in recent games, but he was back to his best today. That catch right at the end was vintage Guzan and something he does very well, which Given isn't perhaps great at. It just took that last surge of pressure off us.
-
The way it's going those half wits from Smethwick might struggle to get another point this season.
-
This will mean nothing to anybody who doesn't know Worcester, but big up to Nathan Baker from the Christopher Whitehead massive.

Sherwood on the Sanchez sending off, and seems to confirm that Gabby and Clark are out of the semi-final.

I was surprised to see Guzan being questioned. It hadn't even crossed my mind. The point about how often Sanchez shows for the ball is a good one, it's what I like about him and a reason why I give him a little more slack. Hopefully he'll be more adjusted to the pace of the game next season and having had a full pre-season. He's certainly got the right attitude and must be doing something right to make Sherwood a fan.

OS
Tim Sherwood spoke of the "overwhelming joy" he felt as Villa saw off his old club Tottenham 1-0 at White Hart Lane.
Sherwood admitted the victory was "sweet" due to the fact it was his first return to Spurs since departing at the end of the previous campaign.
But the claret and blue boss was far more interested in the vital three point haul that put Villa "within touching distance" of safety in the Barclays Premier League.
He said: "The emotion is overwhelming joy for the football club.
"To come to a tough place like White Hart Lane against a team who have a great record here and are going well in the division and pick up three points is magnificent.
"I thought we deserved it. I wouldn't care if we didn't deserve it as long as we got them.
"We carried on from the game against QPR in midweek.
"I thought we played excellently that night but we didn't get what we deserved.
"We came here and thought we could have a go at Tottenham. That's what we did. I think we deserved to win.
"There was heart and desire. I won't take anything less. They know that.
"To be honest, they have performed like that since I have been at the football club.
"We haven't got what we have deserved in some football matches but today we did."
Villa are now 15th in the top-flight table with 32 points and Sherwood is quietly confident his team can win the survival race.
He continued: "We have some tough games coming up. But we are in touching distance.
"There's still a lot of hard work to be done but we fancy our chances to stay in this division."
Carlos Sanchez - red carded this afternoon - will now miss the semi-final of the FA Cup next Sunday and Sherwood said he will assess several other players in the coming days.
Ciaran Clark hobbled off early on and Gabby Agbonlahor was withdrawn in the second half.
He added: "Carlos knows that if he gets sent off he misses the semi-final.
"He has probably never played at Wembley before.
"But he sacrificed himself for the club. I want characters like that."
On the injuries, he joked: "I am going to get Petrov and Cowans warmed up because they might have parts to play."
-
Well looking at the return dates at least some of them should make it.

I would have been the one whingeing about him costing us two point lol

We're definitely light in midfield - could be a chance to try a back 3 with Okore, Vlaar and Baker. I fancy Bacuna and Richardson to be more effective as wing backs than they are as full backs.
-
Brilliant!
-
Villa win and I backed the winner of the National as well. Good times!
-
Normally Id have a pop about Sherwood calling us 'the football club' but I'll let it slide this once.
-

If we get Cissokho back we could play Richardson in defensive midfield. He played the first few games of the season there and did okay. It seemed as if Cissokho wasn't too far off, so hopefully he's close.
-
I like the idea of Grealish having some space at Wembley to at the Liverpool defence. Crying shame though that Gabby will likely miss out.
-
One thing is for sure we won't lose at Wembley for a lack of trying to win. In fact that kind of attitude is more likely to get us the result we want.
After such a poor second half performance against QPR, you really have to give Sherwood some praise for getting the lads' heads so focused. Not only was it a 110% effort from all, there was a lot of quality shown in our play.
Gabby was so unlucky not to provide Legion with an update of his favourite goal; it was only the post that prevented Gabby scoring an almost identical goal to the brilliant last minute winner from Ashley Young at Goodison.
Delph should have finished off Spurs after being set up by Benteke. Great that he was there but a very poor effort from him and an area of his game that still has loads of space to improve. At least today he was involved for the full 90 minutes, in fact, the whole team deserve massive credit, there were no weak links, every man put in a massive shift and looked to play the ball intelligently.
Best of all, despite having so many players out, whoever comes in seems to be able to slot in rather than completely changing the shape of the team. Sherwood and his backroom boys deserve huge credit for that.
-

A bit more space might also suit Zogbia. I'd imagine he may come back into the side.
Hopefully Gabby's back for the City game. We could get a lot of joy attacking their back line with pace.

Definitely worth considering, Bacuna with another assist today. Nice cross in for Benteke.
Will Hutton, Westwood or Sinclair be back from injury?
With Benteke in this kind of form, we have a real chance against Liverpool.

He was dealt such a bad hand coming into this situation and even in his time here has continuously had massive hurdles to overcome. The injuries have been utterly crazy and he and his staff have been creative enough to find ways to get points. I am enjoying just knowing going into every game that we are trying to win. Not settling for a draw even if the draw is a good result. Lambert killed us with the no lose philosophy because we got sucked deeper and deeper every game until we conceded, and a victory amounted to not losing by more than 3. I cannot wait for next week, however the day might pan out.
-
Sanchez is fine until about 70 minutes. We'll miss him against Liverpool.
I also thought Sanchez was pretty solid today. Someone said they'd take the Sylla from the run in two years ago over Sanchez today but to be fair you could take the Sylla from two years ago over a lot of players as he was very good at that time.
-
Another 3 points and closer to Survival and next week the famous Aston Villa are going to Wemberleeeeeeee
-
Brilliant day all round. We can really enjoy the FA cup semi now.
-
The other thing with Sanchez, he made a great interceptionin our box on about 70-75 mins where he did really well to get back in and spot the danger. Yes it was a clumsy challenge and yes he gave the ball away a few too many times but giving him a 4 out of 10 is taking the piss, no one in a villa shirt today deserves less than a 7, it was a good team performance away at a side who have scored a lot of goals at home recently and have a very good home record. For me it was 7s and 8s all round except Benteke and Vlaar who'd both get 9s.
1 more thing, when Sanchez got his first yellow the ref held up 5 fingers and at the time I couldn't think of a free kick given against him for a tackle before that. Looking through the live feed on BBC backs that up, it was the 3rd free kick against him but the other 2 are listed as handballs, harshly done by in my opinion, the tackle itself wasn't a booking and the totting up that the ref suggested as the reason doesn't add up either. Seems like he's been booked on reputation to me.
-
Aston villa I love you
Gonna be a great week long build up to the semi

The first booking was very harsh IMO, the little piece of you know what Mason made a massive meal of it. As for his ability, anyone care to remember the terrific challenge on the edge of his own box on Tuesday that led to Benteke's second goal
-
Over the moon with the win well done to the players and Tim and not forgetting the fans that went :)
-
Caught Tims pre and post match interviews on Final Score. Pre match he was respectful towards Levy and his club.
Post Match he was very level headed about the win although inside he must have been bursting with pride.
He's certainly not the gobby bugger he came across as during his time at Spurs.
If he can do well in the summer transfer window we might just have the makings of a very good manager on our hands at long last.
Let's hope PL results go for us next weekend whilst we're busy fucking Stevie G off.

Agree with that. It is also worth noting Sanchez was in the pressure position all game. Spurs midfield the way they setup and their skill level whoever is in that position will not get a single moments peace the whole game. I thought he did alright, the first yellow he got was bollocks as well.
-
Sanchez - what a dick!
Great result.I
He played very well today, red card aside.
Normally I am a fan of Sanchez, but I thought he was all kinds of bad today
He's still relatively new to the league. And the pace gets to him sometimes. But for a player who cost 4/5 mm tops that's what you get in today's market.
For that money you should expect better. There's being a little off the pace, and there's being a country mile off the pace. Aside from a couple of months in the middle of the season, he's looked no better than Sylla. In fact I'd take the Sylla from the run in two years ago over Sanchez any day of the week.
Don't talk daft

Carlos Sanchez is a very good player. A lot of us fully appreciate what he does for us. Tim Sherwood plainly likes him and he is the one who matters. Pity he is out for the semi final but he is and that's that. God knows who Tom will find to moan about for ninety minutes.
-
Everyone played well, but Baker and Vlaar were absolutely superb, rock solid. Also, now that he has more passing options ahead of him, Cleverley finally looks a player.
A brilliant away performance, and I'm warming to Sherwood more and more. He may be far from the finished article, but he's articulate and positive, and the team look like they know what they're meant to be doing.
This sums up Sherwood for me too.
The two things he's added are goals (with the help of Congo Waring of course) and minerals.
We've reacted well to quite a few set-backs since he joined, which would have crushed us under TSM2. The Stoke goal, West Brom equaliser, QPR going ahead late.
So well done Tim (and the lads).

No big love in from Sherwood either
He looked pleased as punch to beat the fuckers, and he showed it

Fantastic video. Nice to see how much it means to some of the players.
Nice to see old Deadly almost in tears.
-
There's a great bunch of pics of the players at the final whistle on the official Facebook page.
-
See that little smile on Dougs face? Thats because he quietly went and took a dump in Levy's office 80 mins in.
-
Fucking have that!

As much as I had, and still have, reservations about Sherwood's appointment and that the result is about the club and not the manager, a small segment of me was pleased for him today. I hope he enjoys the glow of smug satisfaction he basks in tonight.
Kind of an odd game as although the last 15 minutes I was profoundly anxious, we never really seemed in any danger. Apart from danger of our own making we largely controlled it and could have won more comfortably.
-
Say what you will about Doug but fair play to the old boy he ever misses a game home or away.

He must have realised he will be the only Chairman to be remembered for overseeing a relegation.

Aye but it's a lot easier to do as a multimillionaire who has nothing else to do.

I live for moments like this. Bring on another one next Sunday.

He is about 300 years old FFS, at that age I doubt I would get out of bed let alone going to see the Villa every game.

Im happy, I can actually watch motd, tonight.

That's their first home league defeat in 5 months.

The weekend here is Friday and saturday. So, work tomorrow. I'm wankered. Hopefully it'll be this x 1m next week. oh, and we fully deserved it.
-
I am too tired and emotional after that afternoon to read all the threads and all the posts but has anybody offered to boil, fry, poach or fricassee the hat Des Little said he would eat if we won today? Not having a pop Des, just in fun.

Was on ESPN looking for the stats for the Sanchez booking (from a few pages back) and then went to the BBC but I left that tab open. I've just scrolled down on it to see if there was anything fun in the comments and I found an absolute gem from a spurs fan. I'll post it in full and let you all have a bit of fun picking it apart:
David Nugent · Top commenter
Dan: I feel your frustration - I have it too, especially against the self-aggrandizing, "special one #2" Tim Sherwood - but I think you're over-reacting and your assessment is a bit skewed as a result.
Spurs were the better team in this match. They dominated in every category. And AV only (almost) closed the "shots taken" & "on target" gap at the end when Spurs had to push forward and commit players to try and score. If one of a couple early Spurs attempts had gone in, the game would have been played out differently. Benteke's header glanced off the post & barely went in … such is football.
Fazio: Pochettino played Fazio because he's missing Vertonghen, w/ no other reliable CB's on the squad. Poch has not been playing Fazio otherwise, in preference to Dier. So I don't see the criticism there. And Fazio's defense of Benteke was good - even on Benteke's goal, Fazio had his body on him and pushed him off the attempt, trying to disrupt his header - and it almost worked. Credit to Benteke.
Soldado & Lamela came on as subs, again, as Spurs have no better to turn to on this squad (and, again, like Fazio, have not been playing otherwise) … and Soldado put in some of the best crosses of the match. So, again, I don't see the criticism there. Poch plays what he's got to play with. No fault of Pochettino's.
Chadli and Ericksen interchanged positions constantly - that's the system. Chadli more often attacked on the left, regardless of where it appeared they lined up, so I think that actually is good football.
"Could have had Benteke":That is based on conjecture and media rumors (and at the time Spurs were linked to at least 16 strikers, almost all falsely), but at the time those rumors were going around, Benteke's fee was well above his market value and it was unclear if he was actually available. In contrast, when Spurs went in for Soldado, the move was universally hailed as a great buy. Who would have predicted his loss of ability to score in the BPL? … You? - do you have that insight? … Me? It's easy to "after the fact" deride the purchase. But at the time - everyone thought it a great buy. So I hesitate to rail against the club for a poor purchase that probably you and certainly I and every football pundit who breathes into a mic hailed at the time as a great buy. Coys!
I'd start the fun with it but I can't decide which bit I want to pick up on first.

For some reason, I hate Spurs more than any other club, I think it's all down to coming from the South and meeting a few Spurs over the years. In every decade of my life they have had some good teams, and some shockingly bad sides, but the sense of entitlement of Spurs fans always remains the same.....delusional.
-
Just back from the game, brilliant day out and an over riding feeling of relief.
Villa fans were magnificent throughout , OB seemed a bit over zealous at one point marching a few out.
Benteke was superb today as was delph and cleverly. Sanchez still making a few howlers, Bacuna is no full back. I thought even Weimann did well today when he came on. The tempo was full on and we were far more physical today which was needed. Spurs really are dirty bastards.
The Ref has had an absolute shocker today, what did he play 8 mins at the end even though it was just 5! Tosser.
We go again at Wembley now .
-
I have always hated them. When I was a boy they had a player called Len Ducquemin(sp?) their Candy Kane of the day. The London tabloids called him The Duke and it really annoyed me. I suppose I was always easily annoyed by stuff.

I have said many critical things about Doug, but no one can say that he does not now have great feelings for the club and I hope he is there at Wembley to see Fabian lift up the FA Cup

I admire him even more because of that. He could be sat in Barbados or wherever next to a pool etc etc.
is he ? , no he's on the M1 driving himself to villa away games.
Credit where it's due.

Does Herbert have a chauffeur or drive himself? I normally see his car at away games

I've loathed them since the Charity Shield - patronising no-marks

I saw him today! I was in a Spurs box but he walked past me near their reception when he arrived, I smiled at him and he nodded back with a grin - could definitely tell I was part of the family.

He still drives I overtook him going to hull or Newcastle don't recall which

I don't wish him any ill will now, he's an old bloke with no influence down the Villa. But i'll also never forget or forgive, especially his treatment of the Barton family.

Come on then, tell us about Mr Aston Villa's decades-long support.
-
Some Villa fans have short memories.
Indeed, and selective.
What is selective about Herbert being in charge of Blues and Wolves, and also trying to get rid of Ron Saunders at AGM?
-
I'm confused.
OMG =
didn't know about how he treated Barton as manager and then his family after his untimely death?
didn't know he'd been on the board at the sty and dingle city?
still thinks he never made a penny out of the club?
can't see why anyone might still hold any or all of the above against him?
-
What's selective about remembering that Ellis, and as such Villa, showed less respect to the Barton family than Barry Fry and Birmingham City did?
-
OMG.
A great Villa win but still despair?
-
Loved it so I sniped the best pic for the memories

How do we get from a fcuking great win to some bickering about Ellis? Choose another thread lads.
-

Well said
-
How was Rose not pulled up for a foul before meeting Sanchez? No argument with the yellow, but Rose kicked Delph when he was still next to his corner flag. Free kick there, and Sanchez plays at Wembley.
-
What a different performance than the one we endured and suffered 11 months ago.
We had a go and created the only chances of the game. If we'd won 3-0, hey couldn't have complained. Defensively we were excellent, despite losing Clark, while we seemed to win ever second ball and 50/50.
Spurs looked subdued and devoid of ideas. Bentaleb is a nasty shit house, well matched with Mason in the middle. But it mattered naught.
Sanchez played well and was unlucky to have to take one for the team considering Rose fouled Cole and Delph ten seconds before without a free kick being given.
When Guzan came for the punt into the box at the end, the away end celebrated as if he had took the winning catch at the SCG. A great win.
-

I certainly was not bickering, I was stating facts and have made many points on a great victory

The two lads in their midfield are average at best and I reckon Sir Tim should say he had feck all to do with their lack of footballing ability

Tim Sherwood celebrates after the match

Fucking great win. Well done all. Doug is an egotistical git who put him first, say nothing more about it,move on. I can't wait to see what Sherwood does in the summer transfer window. One more win and we're safe. For me, Leicester, Burnley and Sunderland are going down.
-

Who was bickering? I was just saying fair play to him going home and away every week.
Regarding the game, I loved Sherwoods celebration at the end, regardless of who we played that clearly meant a lot to him.

I don't think Albion are out of it yet.

Have just watched MOTD. Sanchez's second yellow seemed a bit harsh; what was his first one like? Was he committing a lot of fouls?

I didn't think he actually touched him at all.

Hate is a strong and ugly word that should not be used lightly.
I hate Tottenham Hotspur.
I'm starting to warm to old Tim.
-
Whatever Ellis did in the past - and we know what it was, and almost all of it was bad - you've got to respect him for bothering to go to our matches up and down the country, aged 145.
How many of us, had we cashed out 10 years ago to the tune of 25m or so, would still bother?
Really? I mean once you get past the "IM VILLA TILL I DIE, ME" factor? When the alternatives to going to watch us play at Selhurst Park aren't "sitting at home watching it on a stream" or trawling around Touchwood with the mrs, but are doing whatever the fuck you want to do, as you can afford it?
Appreciating the fact he still does that (something which is about as far from the attachment of our current owner as it is possible to get) doesn't mean you think he did the right thing to the Barton family, or that he had our best interests in heart with the things he did in the mid 80s.
-
On the way back there was a Spurs fan moaning that they wouldn't win the Premier Legaue this season. They haven't won a title since colour television and they actually had a fan moaning about this, without a hint of irony.
Tottenham are priceless.
-
Have just watched MOTD. Sanchez's second yellow seemed a bit harsh; what was his first one like? Was he committing a lot of fouls?
First one was shite, the little battler Mason went down as if he had been pole axed, and the ref came over with five fingers up as if the lad had done five fouls. Apparently it was his third from someone quoting BBC, I didn't notice he had done much.

Spurs really are the ultimate in "all fart, no shit"
All that noise about them as if they're some kind of colossus when they have a record which looks a bit piss poor next to the likes of Albion.
-
He had been nipping all game. That's what he's good at. I am gutted but it's only a semi he is is missing

Good mate of mine at work who is a Spud season ticket holder said all players on pitch were shit. He has not responded to the performances of the likes of Vlaar, Baker, Cleverley, Delph (how the feck he get to play for England blah blah) and Benteke (he is shit, Kane is so much better). Happy days

Well apart from more titles, FA Cups, League Cups and European trophies than the Albion *wink*
-
They are still tossers mind. I can't remember them ever making a serious title challenge in my time, even Norwich have had one or two.
-
Our poor record against Spurs r entity is a good measure of "how far we have fallen", as for most of the past 20 years we have done them at home, while thyve finished somewhere unimpressive such as 13th. A good time to have set the record straight.
-
Sanchez was reckless, but Probert the fuckwit should've given a free kick for the challenge on Cole who was clearly fouled from behind.
-
Just rewatching. I had forgotten the bit where Ron Vlaar beat "Donkey" Kane for pace early on. Very good :)
-
Anybody else notice joe cole's bald patch on the coverage? It's coming along nicely.
-

Well quite. We used to beat irrelevant teams like Spurs with ease at one time and didn't bat an eyelid in doing so. You just expected it

Doug will always get a pass from me for this though:

Yes, what's the abysmal treatment of a European Cup-winning manager compared to that?
-
Sheesh, not a pass then, how about a large tick in the 'Redeeming Features' column?

No.

He did a good job for the team though
-
Joe Cole did well when he came on, can certainly play a role in the team, and I imagine he could be a good influence on the young players showing professionalism and bringing in the experience.
-
Well said Jarpie, think he can be an asset to the squad, if not the team.
-
i swear that White Hart Lane gets further away from the Tube on each visit.
I asked a copper at Seven Sisters how far away the ground was. He said a 15 minute walk. This proved to be a fib.
-
Well done lads great win.
-
Great win in itself but even more so given the other results. If we'd been offered four points from QPR and Spuds a week ago you'd gladly have taken it and we look an infinitely better place than we did after that defeat against Swansea.
-
We are best in the world! We have beaten Spurs! Tottingham, birthplace of giants...Alan Sugar, Phil Collins, Gary Lineker, Harry Redknapp, Terry Venables, Osvaldo Ardilles, Ricky Villa, Glenn Hoddle, Jimmy Greaves...your boys took a Hell of a beating !!
or something like that :)
chas 'n' dave, Simon salad cream
-
An absolutely brilliant result, can't be happier today. Well played to all of the team.
Can't wait to talk to my family later today back in the UK (all Spurzz fans).
Looks like Hutton, Sinclair & Westwood will be ready for next week, so at least we have some players coming back.
-
Today's game has been long overdue for many years, if and when we stay up I believe we will look back on it as a turning point.
-
Great win ,well done Tim and the boys. I was impressed by the fact we had to survive EIGHT minutes added on time ,some of it with only ten men and one of them, Andi just about able to walk.
-
Thank you Aston Villa, we have the highs and the lows, we will always love you, but for days like today Thank you.
-

It really does get longer every season that walk. They'll build a fantastic new stadium next year and it'll still be a pain in the arse to get to for just about everyone.
-

Well said
Ban Woodhall I say!
-
Hate is a strong and ugly word that should not be used lightly.
I hate Tottenham Hotspur.
And Kane is very ugly.
-
Think that was probably the worst refereeing display we've had this season, I hope we get a decent and fair Ref next Sunday.
-
I thought he was okay. The red was a red. All ref's miss free-kicks is part of the game. Grealish should have had one first half, Cole 2nd. i'm sure Tottenham will have a list of free-kicks they should have had, too. I thought he let the game flow as much as he could. No issues with the ref. But there again, we won.
-
HD is not very kind to Tim or are those wrinkles have appeared since he has been in charge of us?
-
It's a shame Gabby's effort didn't go in, that would have been some goal.

Benteke is a good footballer. I think he should be playing at a higher level than Villa. I think he's about Swanseas level. In fact, they probably should have went him for him to replace Bony."

two things you need to know about Metropolitan Police officers:
1. they don't live in London
2. they never walk anywhere
-
'He should be playing at a higher level than Villa' says the supporter of a club who last won the League in 1961.
-
Spurs fans. Sigh. I don't like em, but at least they don't whine as much Arsenal fans when they lose.
Cute little club though, you have to respect them punching above their weight the past few years. Bit like a Blackburn Rovers, but without the silverware.

It's funny the Michael Ricketts thing is such a worn out cliche. Any striker who does well is now the 'new Michael Ricketts'.
-
It seems unfortunate to sully a great result with mention of Ellis, but all this 'fair play at his age' crap really gets up my pip. Have we learned nothing about the man over the last 30-plus years? It's not some great sacrifice he's making, going to away games. It's all about ego. He travels to games in a Rolls Royce, gets feted by whichever club it is, sits in the directors' box, enjoys corporate hospitality, gets his smug face on the telly, keeps himself in the public eye (where he's most comfortable) and has people fawn over him with a load of 'fair play at his age' bollocks.
If he didn't keep it up he'd probably shuffle off his mortal coil, and although a dead Doug will get plenty of media spotlight, the great tragedy for Ellis is that he won't be around to bask in it.

Although they presumably exempt Harry 'effing' Kane from that.

Yeah, well, he's a very old man now and most people's gripes(including mine) are simply that he didn't run the football club very well. I get the Barton family issue for Dave Woodhall but to most people it is simply that he didn't run us as we'd want. I can't be bothered getting worked up about him in anyway anymore.
-

Bit harsh. I'm not a fan of Ellis but if I think of what could've happened to Villa when he was in charge compared to other clubs I think we did ok.

What, like Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea?
Yeah, thank God for that, someone could have been blinded by the sun gleaming off the trophies.
-
Firstly, a great win. I didn't go yesterday which was bloody typical really. Apart from a few shots over the bar, Spurs didn't really trouble us that much. From the sometimes poor screen in pub, Delph and Clevereley both had decent games again and I think Sanchez in there let's them do that so I think he'll be a miss next week, although it was a stupid challenge at the end.
I thought the ref was ok overall, i've seen worse even if he seemed to play an age at the end.
As for Doug, if he still enjoys going to games and is healthy enough to do it, then fair enough. I understand some of the animosity as well though.
-
It seems unfortunate to sully a great result with mention of Ellis, but all this 'fair play at his age' crap really gets up my pip.
I take it you don't like Doug then Jimbo?. Most of the older fans (including myself) have an entirely different view to the select band of 'experts' that always dive in whenever his name is mentioned. That is their right of course but when Percy Matthews and Doug Ellis took over the club in the late sixties we were almost at rock bottom. Doug ,in particular, brought the club out of the Victorian age and thoroughly modernised it from top to bottom. He stopped us being known as The Hall of Memories,he brought Pele to Villa Park. That is Pele the worlds most famous footballer!. During the 1970s he was without doubt the best Chairman in the top division. He choose the right person to sell the club to in 2006 and will still be attending up to and including his hundredth birthday and probably for long after
Yes his treatment of the Barton family was appalling but would you say,for example, you would rather have had Ken Bates, the Bhatti Bros or Bob Lord as Chairman, somehow I doubt it. There isn't a single chairman or club owner who doesn't get bad press in these days of social media, for Gods sake leave him alone. He is not a war criminal I think you might agree with that at least....or perhaps not.

What an important win that was with the other results going our way. Just hope chelsea beat qpr later and it will be a good weekend all round.

Good post. And yes we could quite easily have become Leeds, Sheff Wed, Forest, Wolves, Coventry...

Let's start a separate Ellis thread!

don't know if this has been mentioned already but all of the catering staff at Spurs yesterday were wearing 1981 retro Villa shirts.

Ellis made them put them on.
Nasty man ;)
-
I know he didnt treat Tony Barton well as the manager (but he wasnt the choice of Ellis) but what did he do to the Barton family that was so bad?
For me seeing Ellis doesnt really register one way or the other. Whilst in charge he was good and bad. I do remember in the 80s and 90s the neighbours of my folks were big Villa fans and also friends of the Ellis family through the church and used to speak very highly of them. That had used to get me mad when it was clear it was all about Ellis himself. But Im long over that now

I really couldn't care less about Ellis any more, it's in the past. But when Villa fans are talking up his undying commitment to the club, it does frustrate me somewhat. I'd be more likely to talk up the undying commitment of our fantastic away fans, of all ages, who turn up in great numbers and always in great voice, despite the huge cost of match tickets, transport, refreshments, and the frequently shit football served up. Yesterday's result is for all Villa fans, but especially for those away fans.
-

I assume that was the away end and only the away end. Seems like a really bright idea, it makes it harder for the visiting hordes to give them a tough time.
-
One of their big stewards was high 5'ing all the villa fans on the way out.
We sumised he must be a Gooner :D

Yep. Everybody in the beer queue was commenting on it, saying it was a nice touch.

They did the same in honour of Blose title winning team last time they played them,by going bare chested.

HD is not very kind to Tim or are those wrinkles have appeared since he has been in charge of us?
He was looking a bit haggard yesterday. Maybe he's been losing a lot of sleep.
So now he can sleep just a little better.
-
One thing is for sure we won't lose at Wembley for a lack of trying to win. In fact that kind of attitude is more likely to get us the result we want.
After such a poor second half performance against QPR, you really have to give Sherwood some praise for getting the lads' heads so focused. Not only was it a 110% effort from all, there was a lot of quality shown in our play.
.... Sherwood and his backroom boys deserve huge credit for that.
I wonder how much difference Kevin Mc is making? His know-how with Timothy's enthusiasm and positivity may be a good combination.
-
Liverpool's season and possibly Rodgers job hinges on the semi. After spending most of the season unable to score, yet alone win and having relegation pressure then easing that pressure a bit recently our lot should be in good spirits and relatively relaxed for the game.
Is Stan Boardman going to be on the coach?

Cue my regular rant. The only time we've not been underdogs for a final in memory was Leeds in 1996, which was also the only time we acted like it.

Our poor record against Spurs r entity is a good measure of "how far we have fallen", as for most of the past 20 years we have done them at home, while thyve finished somewhere unimpressive such as 13th. A good time to have set the record straight.
Spurs are continually treated by the Media as a top-six premier league club even though they've spent the majority of PL seasons outside of it. In fact it took them 14 attempts before they eventually scraped 5th place in 2005/06. They have since reached a total of seven top-six finishes, never managing higher than 4th.
We on the other hand, have finished in the top-six nine times with a highest finish of 2nd , but we are not considered a top-six club even when we finished 6th for three consecutive seasons. We were considered as over-achievers.
Try telling your casual modern football fan that Villa have finished top six in the PL more times than Spurs and it will be met with denial and disbelief. That's the power of the Media. It's great fun proving em wrong, though.

I've looked him up. It's Tony Parks and, at least on the surface, the goalkeeping coach. So how influential is Mark Robson?
.. and where's Kev in all this?
-
He still drives I overtook him going to hull or Newcastle don't recall which
He does both, when selling the fanzine i've seen him driving and in the back seat.
Think Dave Ismay used to drive him to away games before he passed away a few years back.
-
One of their big stewards was high 5'ing all the villa fans on the way out.

There was also one who was helping to bat the balloons into the home fans area
The most laid back and pleasant bunch of stewards that I've encountered this season
-
A great day out, the first time I've seen us win at WHL since 1981 and nice to meet up with purpletrousers before the game.
Also met some sound guys who are Villa fans from Kettering, Northampton and Stourbridge at The Woodins Shades in Bishopsgate after the game. I promised one of them, Steve from Stourbridge, that I would put the words to a song he invented earlier in the day on here; he's hoping it'll catch on at Wembley next week:-
Oh oh oh it's magic; you know,
Tim Sherwood's win ratio.
We had good fun practising singing it outside the pub but I don't think any Spurs fans passing were too impressed; a humourless bunch!
-
Christian Benteke, Fabian Delph and Ron Vlaar were the star players when the statistics were analysed following our win at Tottenham.
Our trio stood out in a host of past-game categories after our 1-0 victory.
Special mentions, too, for Carlos Sanchez, Nathan Baker, Kieran Richardson and Tom Cleverley who also impressed in the capital clash.
Benteke was No.1 for shots with two in total, one on target and one goal.
Delph was No.4 with two in total and one on target.
Delph was No.1 for ball recoveries with 12. Sanchez was No.2 with seven.
Richardson was No.1 for tackles with six successful from 10 attempted. Cleverley was No.2 with five successful from six attempted. Delph was No.3 with four successful from eight attempted. Leandro Bacuna was No.5 with four successful from seven attempted.
Sanchez was No.2 for interceptions with four. Vlaar was No.3 with three. Richardson was No.4 with three.
Benteke and Baker were No.1 for blocks with one.
Vlaar was No.1 for clearances with nine successful from nine attempted. Baker was No.3 with four successful from four attempted. Richardson was No.5 with two successful from two attempted.
Benteke was No.1 for aerial duels with 11 successful from 19 attempted. Vlaar was No.4 with three successful from four attempted. Sanchez was No.5 with two successful from two attempted.
Benteke was No.2 for fouls suffered with two. Delph was No.6 for passes with 36 successful from 42 in total.
Cleverley was No.4 for attacking third passes with 10 successful from 15 in total.
Bacuna was No.1 for chances created with one goal from one chance. Benteke was No.3 with three chances.
Jack Grealish was No.5 for take-ons with three successful from three attempted.

Did anyone get annoyed by Lineker's patronising question to TS on MOTD? Something along the lines of "but surely you must look around you at Spurs and still think all of this could've been mine?"
Sums up the London bias of the media. Wanker.

"Well a top 8 finish would be great for a team like Spurs, but I'll be aiming higher than that with a club like the Villa."
-
I saw it but I honestly didn't find it patronising. They're at the other end of the table to us anyway I don't think he was trying to take the piss.
-
That sort of question from Lineker probably only strengthens sherwood resolve.
-
That was a much better afternoon than I'd expected. I was behind the goal at the other end to the Villa fans and they were impressive as usual.
Nothing to add to what I've read on here, other than I felt (a bit) sorry for the ten or so German Spurs supporters behind me. They were ok, much more likeable than some of their English cousins. There were three pissed Villa fans walking back afterwards singing something uncomplimentary about Kane which I thought was asking for trouble, but none came that I saw.
Baker really was very good, he looked totally assured alongside Ron, and it's great to have a beard in defence again.
I don't care much for Spurs, but I'll be (again, a bit) sad to see that stadium go. The new one looks identical to Arsenal's bowl.
-
I hate Spurs.
I try not to make enormous generalisations about football supporters, but if i were to scribble down on a piece of paper, how many fans of other clubs I've met in my life, and how many turned out to be absolute bell ends, Spurs would be pretty close to champions.
-
I quite like WHL, it has a bit if character , it will be sad to see another generic meccano affair go up in its place. The view from the away end upper tier is pretty impressive .

I've not been to one new ground yet that I prefer to the old one
Although I haven't been to the riverside, and would expect that to be the first as Ayrsome park had no redeeming features, least of all the locals who always gave you a nice welcome

The owner of the above is a Villa fan according to the press reports.
The whole development includes a college and all sorts I believe so it is possible that work had commenced on these parts.

This was our performance of the season for me. Great display. Some good football. But it was particularly pleasing given the state of our squad going into the game, and during it. We had TC, Vlaar and Richardson coming back from injuries in recent weeks. We then lost two players to injury during the game. Bacuna got a knock in the game but played till the end. Weimann took a knock and struggled on till the end. Vlaar and Richardson both looked unfit on tuesday but managed 90 minutes yesterday. Sanchez still struggles past 60 minutes too.
It was a gargantuan effort. Absolutely fucking brilliant display. The players are falling apart physically it seems, but to take on the "Mighty" Spurs. The "pride of London." The side what that Harry Kane fella plays for. The team who bought a 26 million pound striker on from the bench...to come through having given them a good seeing to, in a game we could have won 3-0, where they barely had a chance of note, was fantastic.

My missus sees a lot of planning proposals in her line of work. She reckons Tottenham will be unrecognisable by the end of the decade.

Yes it will be Edmonton.

Any news on the severity of the injuries to Clark and Gabby ??
After the game Sherwood said that Clark had 'Tweeked his Medial...'
Gabby was on the pitch after, so my thoughts would be that he came off as a precaution. Tight rather than a pulled Hamstring.
-
I thought he'd also said that both were significant doubts?
-
Have to admit that I wasn't really listening.
I just caught the Clark quote.
I'm only surmising that Gabby's was only a precaution as he was on the pitch at the end.

I'm not going to be popular on here for saying this, but I know a lot of Spurs fans and the ones I know are a decent bunch. I've lived in north London for more than a decade and I drink in a pub which is a mix of Arsenal and Spurs, but predominantly the latter. Many of them have become my friends over the years.
The Spurs fans are nothing like the ones described in this thread. They are very self-deprecating about Spurs and have a pessimistic outlook that you'd more readily associate with Brummies. I have never come across the sense of entitlement attributed to them by most on here. I think that comes from the London-centric media more than the fans themselves.
The Arsenal fans on the other hand...
-
I know a decent Spurs fan in Mile End. His name's Francis as well, and he's still sound in spite of even that.
-
I don't think any particular group of fans are more obnoxious or deluded than any other. Every team has plenty of good fans and idiots.
Dad always said
We're Aston Villa, we hate no one, just love the Villa. That's what makes us special

I got a little bit pissed at a 2 year old's Birthday party. It was a family thing and started in the afternoon, by about midnight I was singing Villa songs. The most enjoyable bit was my brother in law is a nose and was gutted. If anyone was in any doubt of how obsessed they are, while we were all watching the Grand National he went in the other room to watch the results coming through. You could tell he couldn't wait for Spurs to equalize. My other brother in law (Villa fan) said to him you're only in there hoping that you can shout through that Spurs have scored, he didn't argue. About half an hour after the games had finished, the Villa fan brother in law said to him jokingly that the only blip on the day was that the noses had won, to which he replied "did they"? He was dead serious, he hadn't even checked their result. He went home soon afterwards.

Years back I was the only Villa fan at a Christening party full of noses on the day Barnsley stuffed them at the sty in the play off semi. I remember it was at The Golden Arrow in Acocks Green. The great thing about occasions like that is you don't have to say a word. That lot would obviously if the boot was on the other foot but I settled for a general air of smugness and a cheery smile.

Was a great performance alright, Delph should have made it safe long before the end. A lot of character shown by a number of players and Spurs ran out of ideas a bit.
Might be no harm to ease up on the schadenfreude re Soldado and Spurs. Lest we forget our own 20 million pound striker currently burning up the second division and all that

Was a great performance alright, Delph should have made it safe long before the end. A lot of character shown by a number of players and Spurs ran out of ideas a bit.
Might be no harm to ease up on the schadenfreude re Soldado and Spurs. Lest we forget our own 20 million pound striker currently burning up the second division and all that
At least for 2 seasons ours kept us in the league and thus contributed something useful.
-
Theirs cost £8m more and has scored 7 league goals in nearly 50 games. As as Ozz says, Bent paid for his fee by helping keep us up twice. Soldado has done smeg all to pay his back.
-
Spurs spent that Bale money magnificently badly.
Eriksen is a good player, but the rest?
-
Chadli seems ok from what i've seen and as you say, Eriksen is a good player. Over £50m on Lamela and Soldado has to be some of the worst business of all time though. Plus another £17m on Paulinho.

If they do the same next Monday morning then that will be great.
-
I don't think any particular group of fans are more obnoxious or deluded than any other. Every team has plenty of good fans and idiots.
Dad always said
We're Aston Villa, we hate no one, just love the Villa. That's what makes us special
Perhaps you can tell that to some of the yoofs who continue to want to defecate on, in the main, their city of origin

I've yet to see the fuss with Chadli. I've never been impressed with him. Spurs have rested a lot on what Eriksen and Kane have done this season. Lamela was an odd one. Much was expected but he's done bugger all.
-
I know a Spurs fan who went to the quarter final and had a great time.

And sing about doing rude things to the Albion almost as much (got to admit I tend to join in though, you can't say them songs ain't catchy).
-
Totally unexpected and much needed 3 points.
TS is so motivational, we should have taken him on at Xmas, when it seems Lambert was asking to be sacked, and Lerner was trying to avoid a pay off.
All in the past, let's get away from the zone and sell up and be Aston Villa FC again.

I'm not suprised at this win. Spurs are doing their seasonal routine of going flat once their CL hopes have faded and they are still very hit and miss. I always felt that if we kept it tight or got the first goal then we had a chance of getting something. Spurs were poor, but we played really well and justified the win. Almost safe now!

That's what the noses say to me. I correct them that they're not singing about their city of origin, but a really crap "football club" that resides there. And I do the quotation marks as well, it really winds them up.

No doubt - but to an non West Midland outsider it may appear to the contrary.
