Guzan, Hutton, Vlaar (c), Baker, Cissokho, Westwood, Cleverley, Richardson, N’Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Benteke.
-
Decent side. Good to see Benteke starting and Ron back. I assume we'll have a midfield three. Glad to see we've got Zogbia in the side as it's a little more adventurous than sticking with Weimann, who works very hard but is all huff and puff. Zoggy will hopefully provide some spark.
-
Given, Clark, Weimann, Cole, Bent, Sanchez, Lowton
Okore still MIA.
-
Happy with that plenty of pace up front
-
Them:
24 Howard
23 Coleman
06 Jagielka
30 Alcaraz
03 Baines
16 McCarthy
18 Barry
21 Osman
14 Naismith
20 Barkley
10 Lukaku
Substitutes
01 Robles
02 Hibbert
04 Gibson
05 Eto'o
07 McGeady
17 Besic
22 Pienaar
-
Who is this Okore everyone keeps going on about? Never seen the guy?
-
No Grealish either. It might be me but I don't consider Okore missing any kind of real mystery or conspiracy. He has to work his way into the side like everyone else, and Clark is left sided which adds balance. If Baker goes down then he's a natural fit with Lowton also on the bench.
-
Looks like we will give it a go then.
I am wondering if Okore's issues are outside football?
We will probably never know...
-
I wonder if Okore is 21 and has missed a whole season of football and has never really played premier league football?
-
Or that Baker's done too well to be dropped?
-
Ten men Villa again.
Why N'Zogbia keeps getting selected, I have no idea.
-
Why N'Zogbia keeps getting selected, I have no idea.
Does he 'keep getting selected'? Isn't this his second start since August?
-
N'zogbia is an enfuriating inconsistent player. But he's the only player we've got who can dribble, and has much better quality than Weimann. I thought he was responsible for our brightest attacking moments in the last game. Baines hasn't been in great form and I see it as an attacking move
-
Okore = Berson.
-
Upper deck at Goodison is just about the best view at an away game
-
Looks like a well balanced team
-
Looks like we're going to attack them.
-
Lambert needs to clarify the Okore situation......always seems to be shrouded in secrecy.
-
People said that about Helenius last season. Want to know and need to know are different things.
-
Lambert needs to clarify the Okore situation......always seems to be shrouded in secrecy.
I'm sure I remember hearing something about him saying he'll get his chances? Maybe two weeks ago. Might have imagined it tbh.
-
I like the look of the side he's put out let's hope we can get something at Everton.
-
Who is this Okore everyone keeps going on about? Never seen the guy?
He was last seen getting into the Nigerian reversing car on Trinity road.
-
Okore = Berson.
I don't recall Berson ever starting or getting injured for a year
-
Other then Delphi this is our best possible side.
-
Quick media pre kick off jizz over Berkeley .
-
Everton have only won once this season, away, and are really, really desperate for a home win.
Hmm...
-

Thank goodness Baines doesn't like to attack otherwise we'd need N'Zogbia to track back and as he can only jog we'd be in trouble. On a positive note, I'm sure he'll find a corner of Goodison unknown to man or beast. Maybe he can plant a Villa flag there.
-
Everton have only won once this season, away, and are really, really desperate for a home win.
Hmm...
Yep, exactly what I was thinking.
But I can't believe we're 6.5 on betfair and they're 1.53. May be worth a punt.
-
"One of English football's stately homes". Yeah right.
-
Any commentary anywhere other than Woodward ?
-
"One of English football's stately homes". Yeah right.
Yep, the Lord of the manor's skint and the place is in a terminal state of decay.
-
Fuck me great block from Baker
-
Are we going to get a touch let alone a pass in today?
-
Excellent block.
-
Bit reckless by Richardson in a dangerous position
-
Terrible tackle Richardson.
-
Ten men Villa again.
Why N'Zogbia keeps getting selected, I have no idea.
im always suprised weimann gets selected
thought charlie looked a little better last game
-
Are we going to get a touch let alone a pass in today?
Looks like we're opting to control the game by giving away all the possession again. Like Italians.
-
Baines looking really dangerous a couple of times already
-

Simply haven't even started yet.
-
Haven't started too well.
-
Are any possession % stats available yet
-
We're going to struggle without Delph. He's the one that gives us a bit of impetus - in his absence the midfield looks leaden-footed.
-
Are any possession % stats available yet
I don't think you want to see them
-
7% After 10 mins according to opta
-
Are any possession % stats available yet
76/24 to them.
-
Are any possession % stats available yet
74% - 26%. No need to say in favour of whom
-
What's this possession of which you speak?
-
Impressed with Alan "clogger" Hutton so far.
-
Can you hear those squeaky voiced scousers whining over the Villa chanting? The dogs in the area must be going nuts.
-
We have the best pair of full backs we've had for years.
-
Great save Guzan.
-
FFS!
-
Bollox
-
Shit
-
Shit and bollocks.
-
Ball watching.
-
Need a win? Struggling of late?
Come play Aston Villa.
-
Ok game plan needs to change
-
Breakdown of the goal lads? Went for a drink and come back to see it's 1-0 to them.
-
That's been coming. Seemed inevitable. We've been hopeless so far and drearily un-adventurous.
-
Need a win? Struggling of late?
Come play Aston Villa.
QPR coming up soon too...
-
How is Benteke looking? Rusty?
-
Plenty of time to recover at least

Nice one. Thanks
-
Breakdown of the goal lads? Went for a drink and come back to see it's 1-0 to them.
\poorly defended corner. Jagyelka with a free header
-
Benteke, understandably, not quite at the races yet. He strayed about two yards offside there.
-
Goal came from a good bit of play from Baines, a great cross and a bit of poor marking.
Benteke looking a bit rusty.
-
Benteke miles off the pace which is understandable but not helpful to our style
-
How is Benteke looking? Rusty?
Yeah just showed too much to one of Everton's CB's and just been caught well offside. Looks a bit off the pace but understandable.
-
Corner.
-
Pants.
-
We've been what we usually are - a team that can't keep hold of the ball.
-
That's what you get when you have 20 odd percent possession. And will Lambert change anything- No !
-
Need a win? Struggling of late?
Come play Aston Villa.
QPR coming up soon too...
Every game will be difficult when you have no creative players
-
Need a win? Struggling of late?
Come play Aston Villa.
QPR coming up soon too...
Plus the commentator just said "what will encourage Villa is that Everton don't keep clean sheets..."
I absolutely guarantee that Everton will DEFINITELY keep a clean sheet today.
-
Baker on the deck....please no more injuries.....
-
Even Jack Woodward says we are sitting back too much and should try to be more attacking (!).
All going as I feared though, just sitting back, let the opponent have the ball and hope for a counter attack. I really hate it...
-
Baker on the deck....please no more injuries.....
Anyone but Clark
-
We need to start pressing them in their half a lot more. We seem so happy to invite pressure on ourselves. That's also before you even address the fact we're utter shit in possession of the ball. We look like we're trying to mime a pinball machine when the side is in possession.
-
Pants.
? 2?
Any commentary anywhere other than Woodward ?
I can PM you a link to the match if you want mate.
-
Do we need to fetch Benteke off at half time? Doesn't sound like its sticking
-
Here comes Clark. That'll do it.
-
heres clark
-
Baker on the deck....please no more injuries.....
Anyone but Clark
Spoke to soon, Clark's coming on.
-
Here come Clark oh dear
-
pc crashed for 11 mins - missed the goal - disapointtng
-
Baker is down. Clark on. Oh dear.
-
Clark coming on for Baker.
*sigh*
-
Clark for baker
Oh well
-
Aston Villa suffering a player injury? That rarely ever happens. :P
-
Blimey, almost a hutton wondergoal
-
good effort hutton
-
Decent effort from Hutton
-
Pants.
? 2?
No mate, our corner was pants.
Close from Hutton!
-
Great attempt Hutton
-
Great shot from Hutton. Is he our best player now?
-
Great effort Hutton.
-
Is Okore even on the bench ?
-
Since calamity Clark is now on i'm changing my score to 3-0
-
Unlucky Hutton. At least he's showing some willingness to attack.
-
Not arsed about Baker. Played great against Liverpool but he's still terrible.
-
Is Okore even on the bench ?
Nope.
-
Is Okore even on the bench ?
No, neither is Grealish.
-
bollocks just got in
-
Is Okore even on the bench ?
No
-
Baker can't make it through more than 3 games without getting injured.
-
Baker was very good v city too. I'd rather him than clark at the moment no question
We've not got much on the bench to change this - only Weimann really
Can't see Cole offering much
-
Any commentary anywhere other than Woodward ?

Cheers
-
Much better going forward.
-
bettter
-
Good spell of play Villa
-
More like it.
-
Great shot from Hutton. Is he our best player now?
today yes
-
Another crap corner!
-
bollocks just got in
Where had they been?
-
They still look a bit nervy at the back. We need to put them under pressure. They'll ship goals if we push them.
-
Good spell of play Villa
Cue second goal for Everton
-
They still look a bit nervy at the back. We need to put them under pressure. They'll ship goals if we push them.
We're not attacking them with enough pace and they're getting a lot of time to get players back though.
-
Richardson's distribution is rubbish.
-
Richardson had to do better there
-
Immediately lose the ball from a throw in.
-
Nzog really needs to start doing something
-
bollocks just got in
Where had they been?
thats what you got typing and not thinking
-
At least there's plenty of time left.
-
Richardson's distribution is rubbish.
I don't know what he offers the team.
-
Hutton playing really well
-
One of the mid 3 needs to push up a bit and try and instigate play a bit, and we need Gabby and Zog to attack their fullbacks a bit. We're so rigid (as normal). Always seems to be the most obvious pass we go far (and often balls up). We're way too obvious.
-
Sounds like we're actually playing well?
-
sucicde pass to hutton from cleverly
-
bollocks just got in
Where had they been?
;D :)
-
Silly yellow for Gabby there. Funny though.
-
Pretty pointless by Gabby
-
Richardson's distribution is rubbish.
I don't know what he offers the team.
Versatility, but I'm not sure he's a first 11 player. That said given our injuries there's no option but to play him every game.
-
I guess the choice in midfield is either to bring sanchez in and let cleverley do the attacking thing
Or bring Weimann (or maybe cole though i wouldn't) in?
-
Benteke wasn't too far away from the last corner, which was a lot better.
-
Pretty pointless by Gabby
I suppose it at least reminded Baines he's in a match. He's had it very easy so far today.
-
Fucks sake, get rid of it!
-
They're pissing all over us right now.
-
Are we ever going to look even half as comfortable on the ball as Everton look whilst Lambert is running the show? Not a chance. And Everton aren't that brilliant by any means.
-
Richardson's distribution is rubbish.
I don't know what he offers the team.
Versatility, but I'm not sure he's a first 11 player. That said given our injuries there's no option but to play him every game.
He's first team under Lambert. What versatility. He's not great defensively and doesn't really get involved in attacks.
-
Are we ever going to look even half as comfortable on the ball as Everton look whilst Lambert is running the show? Not a chance. And Everton aren't that brilliant by any means.
never
-
Why has Baines decided to play out of skin today?
-
It's slightly painful watching Villa. How I miss being good
-
Are we ever going to look even half as comfortable on the ball as Everton look whilst Lambert is running the show? Not a chance. And Everton aren't that brilliant by any means.
never
Is sadly the correct answer.
-
well I saw one entertaining game today I suppose
-
Why has Baines decided to play out of skin today?
Because they needs points
-
Are we ever going to look even half as comfortable on the ball as Everton look whilst Lambert is running the show? Not a chance. And Everton aren't that brilliant by any means.
We didn't look comfortable on the ball when we were splashing the cash either mind
never
Is sadly the correct answer.
-
Could have done with Grealish on the bench really.
-
Bit of effort fron zog wouldn't go amiss
-
Lost our way here.
-
Richardson off, Cole on please.
-
Richardson off, Cole on please.
andy?
-
I'd take Richardson off at HT and bring on Cole. Switch to a 4-2-3-1 and try and play some football. Zog has been dire, but there's always a chance with him that he'll make something happen. It would help if he was push wider. Baines has had it so easy he may as well be reclined on a sofa getting fed grapes by Lambert and Keane FFS.
-
Charlie Nicholas suggesting our midfield more creative and lively than theirs
H&V match thread suggesting we're Struggling
-
Fucking co-commentator is getting on my tits. Every time Everton commit a foul or fuck something up, it's 'unlucky'. Bastard.
-
Richardson off, Cole on please.
andy?
I only think Weimann plays well through the middle. Crap out wide.
-
Four more years of this
-
Charlie Nicholas suggesting our midfield more creative and lively than theirs

hes on the booze
-
I really don't think Cole is the answer. He's looked woefully off the pace for years
-
creative dont make me laugh
-
The usual dreary, desperate, witless garbage.
-
Really poor first half. A typical Villa performance so far of sitting way too deep, no possession, hardly any attacks, sloppy throw-ins, control and total domination from our opponents.
-
rubbish
-
boooooooooooo.
Lambert's woeful tactics evident once again. Please, please do the honorable thing, and fuck off out of our club Lambert, you useless turd.
-
Richardson off, Cole on please.
andy?
I only think Weimann plays well through the middle. Crap out wide.
I meant andy cole
-
Merry Christmas Everton. They won't have an easier game all season...until the return fixture that is. One very brief spell apart, we've been dreadful. Lambert is clueless. It's tortuous watching this for yet another season.
-
Really poor first half. A typical Villa performance so far of sitting way too deep, no possession, hardly any attacks, sloppy throw-ins, control and total domination from our opponents.
summed up perfectly
-
Everton have controlled this half effortlessly. Committed in the 50/50's; crisp, purposeful passing; not letting us anywhere near the ball; their defence has been well organised and determined.
Villa had a couple of good passages of forward play but it was too slow, allowing Everton time to get men back in defence, win the ball and break away again. It's been a bad performance so far from back to front, Hutton being the only one to come out of that half with any credit.
-
Richardson off, Cole on please.
andy?
Andrew

boooooooooooo.
Lambert's woeful tactics evident once again. Please, please do the honorable thing, and fuck off out of our club Lambert, you useless turd.
should have gone for moyes then give him a contract
-
Too easy for Everton at moment they look more comfortable on the ball.We have a few decent moments but missing Delph ,Zog not been involved enough and Benteke looks like a player who has been out 6 months.
-
Richardson off, Cole on please.
andy?
Andrew
carlton would be better at times ;)
-
I'm watching a different game to you lot. It hasn't been fantastic, but I'm not ready to jump off a bridge just yet. I think we'll get a draw.
-
boooooooooooo.

Most idiotic post of the day prize, goes to you.

Perfect summary.

I meant andy cole
No he retired some time ago and never even played for Villa.
-
Cleverley apparently doing well, alongside hutton?
But missing Delph and benteke v rusty
Four goals this season is the obvious concern. We suspected it at the start of the season and if Benteke takes a while to get back in form we could well be in trouble
-
I'm watching a different game to you lot. It hasn't been fantastic, but I'm not ready to jump off a bridge just yet. I think we'll get a draw.
I'm not watching but I've learnt to assume we're playing at least 20% Better than the match thread suggests
-
Disappointing first half we really need to do better in the second come on Villa.
-
crap
-
Four more years of this
This is the most depressing thought of all.
-
Really poor first half. A typical Villa performance so far of sitting way too deep, no possession, hardly any attacks, sloppy throw-ins, control and total domination from our opponents.
summed up perfectly
Agreed. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.
-
Surely we'll see a villa goal today?
-
Surely we'll see a villa goal today?
Have we had a shot on target yet ?

We've looked ok going forward but invite too much pressure by gifting Everton the ball. This would be fine if we were making incisive counter-attacking moves but we aren't; they've been far too slow. We have had a couple of decent patches of play and won three corners, the last of which Benteke was a hairs breadth away from getting his head on. Overall though it's been far too easy for Everton who look way more organised and composed than we do.
-
We're on game number five of a five game run against last year's top five. We're missing our best player and have just had what many people would argue are the other two most important players back from injury - one long term. Whilst I'm not saying we've been Brazil 1970, there's been some glimpses of nice football, especially around the 30 minute mark. We can all tell Lambert to piss off and bemoan the lack of creativity all we like, but Everton are ahead of us at the moment and losing 1-0 to them is no shame.
Obviously I'd prefer it if we did a better job of defending against Baines - it's hardly as if he's an unknown quality.
-
Surely we'll see a villa goal today?
Everton haven't kept a clean sheet for a while. So no.
-
I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but here goes........Hutton was about our only player who came out of that half with any credit.
-
I think our fundamental problem is that the squad isn't very good and the manager sends eleven of them out there who somehow combine to look less than the sum of the parts
I can't believe Lerner was happy enough with that to give him a new four year contract. Mind boggling.
We defend slightly better in spells but other than that we look every bit as hopeless as we have for three years now.
Can't keep the ball, can't pass, can't create chances.
Grim.
-
Surely we'll see a villa goal today?
Have we had a shot on target yet ?
Yes.
-

I shouldn't be laughing at that but I am.

Sigh...I know mate. I'm not sure Moyes is the answer, but he couldn't be any worse than Lambert, surely?
-
Really poor first half. A typical Villa performance so far of sitting way too deep, no possession, hardly any attacks, sloppy throw-ins, control and total domination from our opponents.
Perfect summary.
I think that just about sums up Paul Lambert's Villa since the day he took over.
-
None of our midfielders ever make a run beyond the opposition defence. Everything we do is in front of them, so unless we get it absolutely perfect it's piss easy to defend against. I struggle to see the point of any of our midfielders. Ok, so they get the ball, they pass it, they run around a bit. But they offer next to nothing in the final third. Cissokho and Hutton look miles more dangerous than any of them.
-
Richardson off, Cole on please.
andy?
I only think Weimann plays well through the middle. Crap out wide.
I meant andy cole
No he retired some time ago and never even played for Villa.
shame
he would have got more games than Joe
-
We'll smash them this half!
-
We're gonna be brilliant this half.
-
Fuck off.
-

I agree entirely.
-
We'll smash them this half!
Have you sat on the Pringles again ?
-
And that's a wrap.
-
terrible
-
Fuck me.
-
Game over. Another player that needed a goal. Pathetic !
-
4 years....😢
-
I don't know who I'm more angry with: N'Zogbia, Guzan or Lambert for letting that goal in.
-
Time for plan b?
I' m joking
-
That all came from N'zogbia giving the ball away in midfield. He offers the square root of fuck all - nothing going forward and no protection for the defence. Get him off. Now
-
Double bollox.
Thanks NZog.
-
Fuckity fuck fuck.
-
Randy's gonna have to pull his finger out and pull the trigger if we lose against QPR. You can flirt with disaster year on year.
-
Oh, FFS, that was pathetic defending, never mind the goalkeeping.
-
Game over.
We are rubbish. Another season of utter toss.
When does it ever end?
-
Get coat or open the red?
-
Totally Nzogbia's fault and Brad was shite there. Game over.
-
Straight after half time. Awful time to concede.
-
That's that then
Sounds like a Guzan blunder
Let's at least try and score
I'm logging off though
-
Time for plan b?
I' m joking
Damage limitation?
-
Randy's gonna have to pull his finger out and pull the trigger if we lose against QPR. You can flirt with disaster year on year.
Lambert is the safest manager in the league.
-
4 years....😢
Are we going to say that every time we let a goal in? Can I say it next time we win?
-
Fucking garbage but predictable
They need a win so no doubts it will be against us. They'll probably score early, go 0-2 up after the break, we'll pull one back around 74th minute mark and that will be that.
-
Randy's gonna have to pull his finger out and pull the trigger if we lose against QPR. You can flirt with disaster year on year.
Not a fucking chance to either.
-
Get coat or open the red?
Open the red!
-
The Roy Keane affect....or no affect.
-
"Aston Villa haven't lost four games in a row without scoring in over 10 years."
Not another record Lambert.
-
Randy's gonna have to pull his finger out and pull the trigger if we lose against QPR. You can flirt with disaster year on year.
Lambert is the safest manager in the league.
I wish we could say the same about the club
-
Game over.
We are rubbish. Another season of utter toss.
When does it ever end?
I know where we' ll end up.
-
Disappointing as I was convinced we'd play well and get at least a point today. 4 straight defeats oh dear.
-
Nzog is so shit
-
Game over.
We are rubbish. Another season of utter toss.
When does it ever end?
It'll just go on and on until all our players are injured and we have to field a team of squirrels.
-
Game over.
We are rubbish. Another season of utter toss.
When does it ever end?
I know where we' ll end up.
Where?
-

No need to commit suicide - it's only football

You've just got to laugh really.
-
Is legend Gabby still on the pitch?
-
Get coat or open the red?
Open the red!
OK, going for a Gigondas.
-
Time to crack the Guilloses open
-
Turn up , get beat, repeat.
-
Randy's gonna have to pull his finger out and pull the trigger if we lose against QPR. You can flirt with disaster year on year.
how many times have we said this
when playing a shite team and still lost
-
Don't think we've had a shot on target yet. Hutton was closest. What does that say?
-
I don't think we need to worry too much.
We keep being told that we will be fine when we start playing the shit teams.
-
I said it on both games last season, and I'll say it again today. Gareth Barry is a whole stratosphere better than anything we've got in midfield. Class apart, even at 50 years of age or however old he is now.
-
Don't think we've had a shot on target yet. Hutton was closest. What does that say?
Just being pedantic but Cleverley had a shot straight at Howard from about 25 yards
-
Our crossing has been fucking terrible.
-
we got the ball in net at least
-
I don't know about playing the shit teams, but every year, the list of teams we can't compete with seems to get longer.
-
When it comes to our distribution it's like the morning after the Post Office Christmas party.
-
Randy's gonna have to pull his finger out and pull the trigger if we lose against QPR. You can flirt with disaster year on year.
how many times have we said this
when playing a shite team and still lost
Tom Fox call now I'd say ??
-
I don't think we need to worry too much.
We keep being told that we will be fine when we start playing the shit teams.
If we don't get something from the QPR game the stink of inevitable doom will begin hanging over the club. Particularly as we'd be due to gift Spurs their usual 3 points in the following game. The West Ham and Southampton games look ever more daunting too.
-
Apparently according to Gareth Farelly on villa radio our most dangerous player is Alan Hutton.Says it all really.
-
I said it on both games last season, and I'll say it again today. Gareth Barry is a whole stratosphere better than anything we've got in midfield. Class apart, even at 50 years of age or however old he is now.
We probably lost out on him for the sake of 10 to 15k a week more which makes it even annoying.
-
60 grand on coleman
good signing Moyes
-
I don't know about playing the shit teams, but every year, the list of teams we can't compete with seems to get longer.
Come on Paulie, we're hardly playing the world's shittest teams at the moment are we? I don't even think our team looks bewlidered or lacking confidence as it has often in the last couple of years. We're better than we've been in the last couple of years too.
-
I just find it mind bogglingly stupid that Randy thought Lambert didn't just deserve to keep his job, but deserved a new four year contract.
Either he's actually really, really stupid, or he honestly thinks he's doing a good enough job to get that new deal.
Staggering.
-
Don't think we've had a shot on target yet. Hutton was closest. What does that say?
Just being pedantic but Cleverley had a shot straight at Howard from about 25 yards
Ok, one shot on target. Still terrible. It sounds really quiet in the ground.
-
I don't know about playing the shit teams, but every year, the list of teams we can't compete with seems to get longer.
Well the 4 teams who have beaten us have been a fair bit better than us for years. Assuming we lose today.
-
Randy's gonna have to pull his finger out and pull the trigger if we lose against QPR. You can flirt with disaster year on year.
how many times have we said this
when playing a shite team and still lost
Tom Fox call now I'd say ??
is he a creative player

We still look entirely unable to pass the ball, though, that's the concern.
We defend slightly better - at least when we don't have to play Clark - but I genuinely can't see any other improvements. It just looks same old same old to me.
-
what happened Baker. think we can get back into this but need some fresh faces. Weimann for Nzogbia, move Gabby to the left
-
Everyone knows N'Zogbia plays mainly with his head down. That year when he looked quite decent at Wigan, he played almost as a striker at times. He wasn't playing from deep, he was there to get on the end of passes and drive into the box, commit a defender, score goals. He should be on the shoulder of the defender, not sitting on the halfway line.

-
The thing is, if we had a situation vacant at the moment, I think Moyes would come here and he'd improve us a lot. I think he's had a good break and recovered somewhat from Utd, and obviously, LVG's struggles will have helped him.
However I expect Randy to hold off till the bitter end. Particularly now as sacking Lambert would mean a payoff on a four year contract.
-
Sounds like we could do with taking Zog off.

Agree mate, it's shit. A couple of games ago we'd accrued more points than we'd had attempts on target in all our games so far. Shocking

Agreed. Another year maybe, MAYBE, just for some stability while selling the club.

...against a team that's finished above for how many seasons in a row now?
-
Cross into the box there from about 30 yards out on the wing, Benteke the only Villa player in the box, surrounded by three Everton players. We've ran out of ideas going forward and when Everton get the ball they're winding down the clock, or letting us have the ball in places where they know we can't hurt them.
That was absolute garbage from Zog.
-
The quality in the final third just makes me want to snap shit

And still unable to muster an effort on goal.
-
At last - N'Zogbia off
-
Not sure what's worse - the game or the nonsense negativity on here. We have had a decent start to the season, lost to three teams guaranteed to be in top 4, and granted are playing poorly today.
Hardly the end of the world.

5 in a row and 9 of the last 10.

I don't think Lambert's ability had anything to do with it. Lerner just wanted the job filled.

I appreciate they're better than us, so were our last three opponents, but I don't think that means we can just shrug off what is currently 10-0 over 3 and a half games, and barely a shot on target in that time.
We just don't seem to have a go in too many matches. Everton are a better team than us, yes, but they've struggled a bit recently, haven't been scoring, and it's surely not unreasonable to think we might look at least competent against them?
It just seems like three and a bit years of making excuses for really poor football with next to no progress.
-
Cissokho really is poor in the final third. So many times in that good spell of posession he should have been able to put in a decent delivery
-
Okay, I give up. We're shit, the players are shit, the tactics are shit, the manager is shit, the passing is shit, the defending is shit and the attacking is shit. Nothing has improved ever.

Thing is, the second goal in this was a freak goal - stupid mistake from N'Zogbia and sloppy from Guzan. If that hadn't gone in we might have competed this half.
-
Okay, I give up. We're shit, the players are shit, the tactics are shit, the manager is shit, the passing is shit, the defending is shit and the attacking is shit. Nothing has improved ever.

There wasn't much in the first half to suggest that - and it did go in, anyway.

Lambert isn't going to be going anywhere. That four year contract was only, what, a couple of months ago? Ink will still be wet on it.

That should have been penalty.

Clark lucky to get away with that.

Again, why is that some mitigating factor?
We've got our most key player back today, too, for what its worth.

people like you really get my goat, happy to accept total shit, week in week out. even the Liverpool game was shit to watch. since then we have conceded 10 or 11 goals without reply, playing awful every game.
-
We have been shit for three seasons - giving Lambert an extended contract aint gonna change that -things are that bad I would take being "average" as a massive step forward. Just who can we compete against now? its that pathetic, its almost funny - Lambert and Lerner - The Chuckle Brothers - subsititute "to me, to you " with " we go again, we go again" :)
-

Lambert isn't going to be going anywhere. That four year contract was only, what, a couple of months ago? Ink will still be wet on it.
Lamberts completely untouchable and he knows it, he will never feel any real pressure to get a result.
-
Nobody is asking you to give up. If you look, I said the defending has improved, but what about everything else?
To be honest, whilst I think the results aren't going our way at the moment, and the football isn't great by any stretch of the imagination, I think that the team is a lot more headstrong than it has been in recent years. I think that the inclusion of Cleverley has added an ability to add good balls in the box as seen against Arsenal before it all went tits up. We haven't been scoring, but Benteke is back and he's been missing big time. I'd be surprised if we finished below 13th this season.
-
The best of Clark is coming out now
-
We're not realistically in danger of relegation. So what are we playing for?

Just reality, is all. If you want to change that, find us the hundreds of millions that will allow us to change that reality
-
We should have been far more adventurous against Everton today. They've been poor this season. We've made it so easy for them. That's not good enough. And I don't care who the opposition is, if you lose four on the spin without looking remotely close to competing or scoring in any of the games, then it's hard to recover from. We've been utterly hapless for four games, irrespective of the opposition and it's now loaded us with immense pressure to beat QPR because there's 3 more tough games to follow the R's.
For anyone not bricking it. Congratulations, you've got a stronger stomach than me.
-

Maybe there's a clause in our favour. Something like 'Six months money if we sack you for continuing to be unspeakably shit'.

Could/should have scored.

Mass hysteria, just because Everton have had a poor start we assume we should go to a top 6 side and win?
Granted we have played poorly but deary me.

Here's hoping we win some of the more winnable games approaching, then, but it worries me that the last two years, we've said precisely that - we've got some easier games coming - and then failed to win them.
There's no disgrace in losing to the likes of Chelsea or Man City, but I'd rather we'd done so having shown some signs of improvement, that's my concern.
-
We're not realistically in danger of relegation. So what are we playing for?
That's the only saving grace really. The bottom 3 are already cut adrift and look dreadful.

We haven't expected an easy win, but we could at least expect our side to try and have a go and exploit what have been glaring weaknesses for Everton this season. We've sat back and given them probably the easiest game they'll have all season.
-
The wheels have truly come off our adequate start. 4 games no points no goals and other teams scoring at will. I think I will keep away from post match thread.
-
If we get one in the next couple of minutes - and we look like we could - we will get a draw at least.
-

7 points out of 9 from the 'shit' teams we've played so far suggests we will.
-
Yet again giving possession away from a throw in. Infuriating.
-
be nice to see more shots on target
other teams goalies have easy days - they should bring a book
-
3-0. Ho hum.
-
There you go, 11-0.
FFS
-
and 60,000 coleman scores ;)
-
Everton now appear to be taking the piss.
-
Really poor
-
fuck this shit - i'm going to bed!
-
I'm lost for words now.
-
Fucking useless
-
I can handle not competing with Chelsea and Man City but fucking Everton.
-
Terrible.
-
least leicester gave them a game no excuse for this shit
-
Awful performance, this. We've been so far off the pace that it's ridiculous.
-
It's not out of character, this.
-
Our passing is just utterly hopeless. What on earth is wrong with us? Even the simple passes sometimes.
-
I could weep.
-
This is really shit!

The point is we have lost four games against top six sides, three of which will finish top four again.
Face it, the Lambert haters are ecstatic at this run so they can jump back on the bandwagon.
Benteke back after 6 months, Vlaar back from an injury, Senderos who has been our best defender out, Delph out - would you like any further points for me to argue?
UTV.

have a fucking word with yourself. 3 - 0 again, not even getting close to them. its fucking embarrassing.
-
Southampton 6 - 0 Sunderland.
-
What minute will Everton get there third?
Zzzzzz
-
FFS Gabby. Had to score there
-
Two really avoidable goals this half, annoyingly.
-
A shot!
-
so what does this do to the 'anyone ever given up drinking' thread?
-
shot on target
ill open the JD ;)
-
Southampton 6 - 0 Sunderland.
7 now
-
Honest to fucking God how shit are we? Why the hell do we set up this way? I fucking hate the counter attack. I am sick to death of seeing other teams just dominate us and use is like doormats. 4 games with barely a shot let alone a goal.
-
At least we are not 6 -0 down like Sunderland. Some poor teams in this league.
-
I can handle not competing with Chelsea and Man City but fucking Everton.
Open up another bottle. Or two !
-
Well at least we can like at the right end of the table again. Burnley, Sunderland, Palace losing. Phew.
-
Baines has had so much space for the whole game. He's the one doing the damage for me. All the time in the world to pick out that cross.
That's it for me. Fuck off Lambert. Moyes in. I know its not going to happen but I'm sick that another record has been broken.

Once again, a post where you can't resist having a pop at other people "Lambert haters". Maybe people aren't that taken by 11 goals for no reply in four games? And barely a shot on target?
-
Southampton 6 - 0 Sunderland.
7-0
-
Saints have a 7th. Nice journey home for Sunderland fans.
-
Clark playing is guaranteed goals conceded
-
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, to feel positive about. Except just possibly Alan Hutton.
-
Jesus Christ, it's Joe Cole.
-
At least we are not 6 -0 down like Sunderland. Some poor teams in this league.
I hope your tongue is firmly in your cheek!
-
We had a shot yet ?
-
Southampton 6 - 0 Sunderland.
7 now
That's gonna be a long, long trip home.
-
Not sure what's worse - the game or the nonsense negativity on here. We have had a decent start to the season, lost to three teams guaranteed to be in top 4, and granted are playing poorly today.
Hardly the end of the world.
And there it is again. I glad someone keeps remind me that we should accept that we can't play out with the big boys but should look forward to playing the with the shit ones.
So are Champions League contestants Liverpool not big boys?
Mass hysteria, just because Everton have had a poor start we assume we should go to a top 6 side and win?
Granted we have played poorly but deary me.
Why don't you stop exaggerating with the "mass hysteria" thing and actually argue your point rather than banging on about other people all the time?
The point is we have lost four games against top six sides, three of which will finish top four again.
Face it, the Lambert haters are ecstatic at this run so they can jump back on the bandwagon.
Benteke back after 6 months, Vlaar back from an injury, Senderos who has been our best defender out, Delph out - would you like any further points for me to argue?
UTV.
As shit as we have been, I'm not throwing the towel in yet either.
There's been enough to suggest to me this season we'll be ok but we sure do need to get our mojo back quickly after this game.
-
Normal service from last season has been resumed. Shite.
-
10 minutes for Joe Cole - just about as long as he can last
-
Cleverly is pretty clearly a better passer than the rest of our lot.
-
7-0 Southampton.
-
So, no wins in six games for Everton. No home wins all season. Their eyes must have fucking lit up when they saw who was coming to town today.
-
Cleverly is pretty clearly a better passer than the rest of our lot.
Slightly harsh on Westwood.
-
Honest to fucking God how shit are we? Why the hell do we set up this way? I fucking hate the counter attack. I am sick to death of seeing other teams just dominate us and use is like doormats. 4 games with barely a shot let alone a goal.
Lerner may have cut the spending significantly, but for the money spent on this team we should be much much better. Disgraceful really.
-
The funniest thing on this forum is a lot of people seem surprised about individual players, their lack of quality and the way we play...where have you all been for the last 5 years?
-
Well I never thought I'd say it but Alan Hutton has been our best player I think.
-
Joe Cole lives!
I doubt anybody, 'Lambert hater' or not is rejoicing this scoreline. I like the phrase, 'Lambert hater.' It conjures images of people burning effigies and sticking pins into Lambert Corinthian figures each night.

lambert haters thats a stupid thing to say
how much support has he had
hes been dire for over two seasons
-
I am not enjoying this match at all.

Precisely, had we lost 2-1 or even 1-0 it may have felt like we'd at least given them a game.
As it is, they've pissed it.

I think we've established it doesn't work. I think we've established Lambert is going to keep doing it.
-
What the fuck was that, Richardson? A lofted chip straight at Howard.
-
Frustrating, as usual.
-
WTF was that Richardson??
-
To be fair to Richardson Gabby gave him the ball then just wandered past him - no threatening run or option whatsoever
-
Joe Cole lives!

Shit game but cheers for making me laugh mate.

Are some people still watching this?
-
8-0 saints fucking hell
-

In a persistent state of denial, trying to instantly repress the memory of over three quarters of the matches I've just witnessed.
-
8 ( eight ) nil now Southampton
-
The thing that worries me is not so much that we're losing, it is the way we've lost. Everton have basically coasted, we've done next to nothing to threaten them.
-
Are some people still watching this?
If I'd gone (I haven't) I'd be on the M6 by now
-
We are a club in decline.Lambert is managing the decline.
-
8-0 saints fucking hell
Pah, and you lot think we're bad.
-
What the fuck was that, Richardson? A lofted chip straight at Howard.
We had the ball in our possession for a fairly long time, it was long over due to go back to Everton. Richardson was merely obliging.
-
Are some people still watching this?

Why not? Most of our players are.
-
Is there anyone out there that still supports this loser? Giving him an extension to his contract was a shocking decision by Lerner. We are fast becoming a laughing stock
-
We are a club in decline.Lambert is managing the decline.
And Lerner is overseeing it.
-
We are as limp as a castrated dog. 4 defeats on the trot and no goals for. Definitely deserving of a 4 year contract. Appalling.
-
Poyet out!
-
Fucking awful. Fucking boring. As usual. I no longer really recognise the club I grew up supporting. It is soul destroying as is some people's view on here that this is kinda ok and what we should expect. I'm starting to hate football
-
Why, when we get hammered playing 4-3-3 for 3 games in a row against superior opposition does the stupid twat do exactly the same thing again?
-
Why are Okore and Sanchez not playing?
-
We are a club in decline.Lambert is managing the decline.
We've been in decline, short of three-four seasons of mega-spending, since we lost the 2000 FA Cup Final.
-

Basically, we've accepted (and I mean the club, not the fans) that this is where we are, and this is how it is going to be.
Absolutely zero fight today. None at all. That's a concern.
-
Cissokho's crossing has been the real highlight of the match for me.
-
Is there anyone out there that still supports this loser? Giving him an extension to his contract was a shocking decision by Lerner. We are fast becoming a laughing stock
I doubt anyone is laughing at a club that has been beaten by the sides that finished 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th last season.
-
Cissokho's crossing has been the real highlight of the match for me.
There was one, ten minutes ago, when he got into a decent position, well wide, and swung a cross in which bent around in an arc and narrowly missed Hutton on the other side of the pitch.
-
It's not the losing. It's the manner of the capitulation. The one-dimensional, utterly predictable tactics. The inadequate ball-retention. The absence of flair or creativity. The lack of goals from midfield. Actually, the lack of goals full stop. The paucity of movement. The inability of the players to control the ball and find a teammate with straightforward passes. The...
Ah fuck it. I can't be bothered.
-
Cissokho's crossing has been the real highlight of the match for me.
Tom, mate...hats off to you!
Every one lover a trier...the players could learn from you.
-
Fair play to Koeman and the Southampton board. Sold a bunch of players for stupid money, bought some good ones, brought in a manager that kept the football playing side of the club and now they are sitting pretty at the right end of the table. Oh and they have scored more today than we have all season.
-
Final whistle. 3-0
-
The good thing is I don't hate watching football. I enjoyed the game earlier and ill watch the others tomorrow. I just fucking hate watching the Villa. They do nothing but try and ruin my weekend every damn week.
-
Cissokho's crossing has been the real highlight of the match for me.
The highlight of the match for me is that nobody on this thread has spelt Clark's surname wrong...so far!
-

There is losing, and there's losing so limply, though.
It isn't about results when you play the likes of Chelsea or Man City, it is also about the way you play, and we've shipped 11 for no reply in four matches and managed barely a shot on goal.
I don't think we're a laughing stock (although the contract award was nuts), we're just not a very good football team, and after some good results early on, we're starting to see some pretty stark reminders of how we've played for three or four years now.
-
61/39 possession

Reminds me of when I first started supporting the club in the Crowe era.Everyone knew it was wrong but could not understand why it was geing tolerated.

I thought they might struggle, but they've been very good. I think they'll be ahead of Everton by the end of the season. Some of their signings look inspired and they sold sensibly as well. Got absolute top dollar.
What they've done shouldn't be beyond us. We just need some astute management at the club, from up on high, down to the dressing room.

61/39 possession
Not bad for us.

We could start with playing a different brand of football and at PL not constantly giving the ball to the opposition. I fucking hate watching it and I have no idea why a professional football manager cannot see that it simply does not work.

Me! I'm hanging in there.
Ok I only watch from the comforts of home and I'm bit spending my hard earned money to do so but it's still hard to watch and to take. I still generally believe Lambert can turn it around this season.

About 30,00 Evertonians will be thats for sure - most Evertonians I spoke with this week were expecting a very tough game today - we cant even get a shot on target against anyone we play at home or away- that is laughingly embarassing.
We may have played "better" teams over the last few games but at least give it a fucking go !! We surrender before we get over the white line.
For me Lambert ranks up there as one of the worst managers we have had over the last 50 years and Christ we have had a few bad ones.
