Fantastic, we cocked up announcing the starting 11 and then did the same with the subs.

It amused me anyway.

What a blessed relief that this game is about as important and meaningful as when we go and play FC Dallas in July.

It looks to be the 4-4-2 diamond with Weimann being put up for a toasting as the number 10. He got 2 against Hull, came closest at the Etihad, so why not?

Not as bad as the five at the back idea but could have been a lot more inspired. Daniel Johnson has no future at VP as long as Lambert is manager it seems.

even less so. I am praying that by the time we try on our first stetson we will have a filthy rich new owner (i.e richer than the current filthy rich owner) and a manager in place playing 21st century football.

And I assume at some point Helenius must have shit in Lambert's coffee. He has become Berson.

Okore and N'Zogbia, possibly Kozak, would be pushing for places.

I was hoping at least one of Robinson or Grealish would get a start though.

Bowery and Baker again ... jesus wept.

And no I don't think Bowery's been excellent of late. Put a great shift in against Hull but was wank against City and exposed for the pub level player he clearly is. How does a striker that hasn't scored in two years get in a Premiership team ?

And why on earth is this on the box ?

I think it may be a diamond. Spuds don't really have a defensive midfielder so Weimann could get some joy

But it doesn't really matter and I still hope we get to see a bit of grealish and Robinson

A good £30m on 5 players would only bring it up to mid table level. It needs about £50 with wages to match to be anywhere close to top 8

I know it's the last game and we're safe and all that, so I suppose it doesn't matter all that much today, but again, just like all season, the players look like they quite simply haven't seen each other all week, let alone done any training.

I mean, I know the Karsa/Culverhouse thing seems to suggest that they actually haven't done any training, but none-the-less, it's routinely, unrelentingly awful.

Only just.

What annoys me most isn't the scoreline, it's the fact that Spurs are showing all the urgency of a training match, and pissing it easily.

Worst Villa team in my time.

(Been watching since we last got relegated). We need a least 3 proper prem signings if they are going to stay up next year and a new manager.

Indeed, and I've been watching since 72. We have been comfortably worse than the 86/87 team for much of the season and Lambert is fast assuming the mantle of worst manager, or at least on a par with the worst

Once upon a time I supported a football club. Frustratingly inconsistent, serial underachieving, but a football club who would give me a good season every other one. Would give me something to look forward to. Now we're just a collection of mediocrity marking time for the inevitable relegation.

Please god let this statement say we're being sold and also Lamberts gone
Lambert shouldn't return for the second half

This is hopeless. As soon as this season is done with we've got to do something about this bloody squad. Absolute tosh.
Guzan, Vlaar, Delph and Benteke are the only players you can safely call Premiership standard.

Gabby has been decent in the past but is in decline, but perhaps there's a faint glimmer of hope he'll be a squad player of use. N'Zogbia could possibly prove useful still, with a better manager in place who can get us attacking better. Okore could be decent. Clarks an okay backup. Givens worth keeping as a backup keeper. Kozaks an okay squad option. Albrightons done okay but it may not be worth renewing to be honest.

Everyone else range from mediocre just piss poor. The sort of overhaul we need to do is major. For me, none of Baker, Lowton, KEA, Westwood, Bacuna, Tonev, Sylla, Bowery, Weimann, Bennett or Luna are good enough and never will be.

The sooner we acknowledge this transfer policy has been a disaster the better. We need new ownership. We need new management. I can't take another year of this shite.

I think he's okay. He's just about good enough at this level. I think part of his problem is fitness. Too many niggles and injuries and he's the sort of player that could probably only manage 20 games every season. Despite already having a spell out injured this season, I think he's looked tired in the last month.

I'd sell him at the drop of a hat though. We most certainly need better as our defensive lynchpin. He's not a patch on a Mellberg or a Laursen. Not within a country mile. That's the quality we need to hold our backline together.

I just can't believe how we're in this position again.  We've not yet got shot of our mediocre high earners and now we'll have to get rid of almost a squad's worth of shite low-earners.

We're going to have so many shit players to shift, we'll have to build a second training ground for them to sit around playing FIFA and online shopping in, whilst our new squad trains.
On the plus side, they'll be able to do the first team squad briefings in the boot room.

And Man City two up, incredible feat them winning the league really when you think about it, amazing that they've managed it...

When we were holding on for dear live vs City on Sky on Weds, their commentator actually had the temerity to describe City's fans as "long suffering." Geezus i'd take some of their pain that they've gone through in the last 4-5 years.
It seems such a short time ago that we were one up against them, courtesy of John Carew. At that point we were ahead of them in the table. They then turned the game on its head and beat us 3-1, and since then, the turnaround in both clubs has been frightening, and for us, very depressing.

The worst, scariest thing about sacking Lambert is wondering just how much it would actually improve things in any case.

These players are performing worse than they could, but they're mostly barely good enough in any case.

If we could hire someone who could, say, be arsed enough to do some coaching during the week, then I reckon we'd see some improvement. Even if it was just players moving around at throw-ins and that.

It's giddy ambition, I know, but we can hope.

Reminds me of a Chelsea fan saying how unlucky they had been until they had some luck in the European Cup Final against Bayern. I had to remind him just where they might have been without the Russian crook though in fairness I don't think he was supporting them then

For me he's in the good enough for crossover camp. Keep in on a year or two while we rebuild (from pretty much square one again).
In terms of players like Baker though. They shouldn't play for us again. Nowhere near the standard required, and offer nothing.

Lerner wont sack him, he'll leave that to the next owner of AVFC.
Exactly, it just wouldnt make financial sense, unless of course, the prospective buyers were to make it a pre-condition of sale that "Lerner hires, Lerner fires", in which case.....

It doesn't really make any difference.

It would be the club sacking him, not Lerner himself (legally).
Yes but as i`ve said elswhere, the club would have to settle up in our out of court (remember MON), which, bearing in mind, would probably cost a Million or so, all that comes off the bottom-line valuation of the club, so somewhere along the line Randy foots the bill bless him.

He's been told by the Premier league that for one week they are awarding all teams below 7 points for a win. It is akin to firing a bullet into the head of an injured deer, limply holding onto life.

Paul lambert is going to have to begin his managerial career all over again, starting in league one or two.  I sincerely hope he learns the lessons of his mistakes.  It will be along, long time before he ever gets a crack at a job with a club as big as this.  If ever. See TSM1.

He is. An ITK on TBUNS has confirmed Randy was admitted to Williamsburg Home for Lunatics sometime in 2011.

We're safe. I know it's almost impossible to comprehend, but we are. Somehow.

As someone said earlier, we are lucky there aren't another two matches to play this season, as we'd be done for.

Still, same place, same time this time next year, no doubt we'll be watching the same crock of shit.

We were safe after the 29th game of the season. Which is staggering.

Twelve thousand voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the managers. The fans outside looked from McLeish to Lambert, and from Lambert to McLeish, and from McLeish to Lambert again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Westwood is well down the list of players I'd replace.
He'd be right up near the top of my list to be honest, because he's in our starting 11 every week and is nowhere near good enough to be playing at this level.
The dross like Luna, Sylla, Tonev, Helenius etc, don't concern me as much because they don't play anyway.

It's the shite in the starting 11 that needs addressing first and foremost. Chief of which are the crap midfielders we have alongside Delph.

Westwood is fine but no way a holding midfielder. Push him further up the pitch and he would be an asset. A top class genuine holding mid is desperately required.

Fulham 1-1. They might just drag us back into it.

Drag us back in what?

By my reckoning we are down if Fulham draw, Norwich can get one back, Sunderland can keep it to a one goal difference against Swansea and Cardiff beat Chelsea. We also need Hull to lose by no less than 5 goals and West Brom to not score more than 4
Are we 11th yet?
