@IanTaylor7: RT"@AVFCOfficial: #AVFC: Guzan, Lowton, Bacuna, Vlaar [c], Clark, Baker, El Ahmadi, Westwood, Sylla, Weimann, Benteke. #AVFCLIVE #WHUFC”

Delph must be injured. Fucking fantastic >:(
-
Fairly happy with that side , Lowton back in and bacuna and sylla in midfield it seems - would have preferred tonev rather than kea but that aside its a decent selection.
-
That team looks like one of two things to me. Either bacuna pushed right of a fwd three, baker at left back. Or 532 with Lowton at left wing back, which I think might look a bit odd.
It doesn't look like it has many goals in it other than benteke / Weimann.
Let's hope Lowton is somewhere close to the excellence at the back end of last season
-
@MatKendrick: Fabian Delph missing through illness, I believe #avfc
-
4-4-2 ?
-
I've just realised. What's happened to Delph? Bollocks!
-
4-4-2 ?
It may well be a midfield diamond, you know. He's played it before.
-
@doogan_brian: '@AVFCOfficial subs v @whufc_official Steer Helenius Herd Bowery Tonev Kozak Johnson #avfc #utv
-
Midfield looks very average indeed to me, without Delph. Very average.
Not expecting a great game here to be honest. We could do with the athleticism we're missing.
Please don't spoil my Saturday again villa.
-
Nice to see sylla get a start - interesting see how Lowton does on his return with bacuna further forward .
-
I'd assume 433 with bacuna on the wing. There's no left sided midfielder so I can't see it being 442. If we're going to get a win here I think it'll have to be a scrap, and possibly 1-0. Can't see too much creative quality in that side.

Yes, 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Can't see 4231. Who's in the three? Bacuna, Weimann and . . (KEA?)
-
Id like to see him play a diamond and would be interesting to see Weimann play off Benteke. UTV
-
Come on Villa. Lets twat these kit stealing wankers. 4-1 Villa win.
-
Time to fire up the laptop - enjoy the game all and lets hope its a happy post match thread :)
-
Two very very average looking sides, looks like a 0-0 or 1-0 either way to me
-
Why pick Tonev last week, when he did well, yet push Bacuna forward this? More defensive beef, I suppose, as they have Jarvis & Downing on the wings.
-
Can't see 4231. Who's in the three? Bacuna, Weimann and . . (KEA?)
Bacuna, Sylla and Weimann, I would say.
-
Regardless of the score, I've got a fairly confident feeling about the likely tone of comments on the match thread
I'll be logging out now!
-
Why pick Tonev last week, when he did well
What game were you watching?
Fully deserves to get dropped after that awful performance
-
A real pity about Delph missing out. We need a strong presence to combat Nolan and Noble.
Good to see Lowton back in. Him and Bacuna can hopefully link-up to good effect as our midfield doesn't have much in the way of creativity.
I would prefer to see Clark rather than Baker at left-back. Though without an out and out striker like Carroll or Cole, I guess we shouldn't get bullied too much aerially (Nolan may do a number on Clacker though).
-
Shit, no Delph is a massive blow.. hopefully Bacuna being a further forward can make up for that. We need someone in the midfield areas being positive and forward thinking.
-
Why pick Tonev last week, when he did well

Fully deserves to get dropped after that awful performance
Tonev was average at best last week. Delph is a massive loss. Wemann and Benteke have got to perform at the same level at the end of last season to win this. All 5 Sky Sports soccer pundits gone for a Villa win ........
-
We're Aston Villa, we glow in the dark!
-
Why pick Tonev last week, when he did well

I was at the game last week and honestly I don't think you can say that Tonev was any worse than the rest of them. Awful to a man, Weimann Westwood and Gabby particularly, but obviously Gab was carrying a knock.
-
it's always Francis on the commentary-boring so and so.
-
Come on Villa. A 2-1 win, Lowton and Weimann to score.
-
We're already missing Delph. Nobody there to pick up the ball from the back. Hoof!
-
Stoke 1-0 Southampton - Asmir Begovic...after 12 seconds
-
it's always Francis on the commentary-boring so and so.
I'm lucky - I've got an Arabian link and can't understand a word the commentator's saying!
-
We're wearing the kit in the league.
-
Bright start so far.
-
KEA like a snail through the middle...come on Villa!
-
KEA too slow there
-
Decent start, that kit looks horrible!
-
Aahhhhhhhhh...please score today Andi
-
Weimann doesn't like 1 on 1's does he?
-

Pinocchio didn't.
-
Thought Andi was in there
-
Beelzebub reckons we are playing 3 at the back.
-
Blimey, so Downing washed up in east London did he? I must have missed that.
-
Stoke 1-0 Southampton - Asmir Begovic...after 12 seconds
Begovic is in my fantasy footie team. I should get a million points for that.
-
Stoke 1-0 Southampton - Asmir Begovic...after 12 seconds
I cannot wait to see that.
-
I'm starting to dislike Westwood
-
Giving the ball away too much.
-
Fulham 0-1 Man Utd - Antonio Valencia
-
it's always Francis on the commentary-boring so and so.
I'm lucky - I've got an Arabian link and can't understand a word the commentator's saying!
haha. send it on mate!
-
according to the Beeb Begovic scored from 35 yards!!!
Is he going up for corners this early?
-
I'm starting to dislike Westwood
He's not really progressing at all anymore, is he? If anything he's gotten worse
-
I'm starting to dislike Westwood

Yep!
-
Weimann doesn't like 1 on 1's does he?
So he's a bit like Gabby but without the pace then.
-
The missing 11th Commandment: Thou shalt always applaud spreading the play.
-
Weimann pulled down?
-
No foul.
-
Manchester City 1-0 Norwich - Sergio Aguero
-
So it's come to this, a team maanged by Sam Alardyce ping the ball around better than us.
Get up Andi
-
Morrison is such a twat. Looked like a foul?
-
How is that not a foul on Andi?
-
How is that not a foul on Andi?
I know. Francis is babbling on about how Weimann went down 'too easily'. I disagree. Morrison was all over him, pulling him...Certain foul
-
How is that not a foul on Weimann?
-
We don't half struggle against any kind of width.
-
No foul for me...
-
I wish we had some more players who actually wanted to be on the ball, and were confident and good when they have it. Even Andi & Gabby, our usual two wide outlets, are limited with the ball.
Andi proving already he needs to be dropped. Should have scored two.
-
Dunno about that one. Looked good defensive work initially but the replay from in front showed him pulling Andi back I reckon.
-
So it's ok to put your hands on a player's shoulders and pull him? I see.
-
Is Westwood trying to mark himself out of the game?
Move!
-
Fulham 0-2 Man Utd - Robin van Persie
-
Nice one Brad
-
I hear Howard Webb has failed to give a blatant red card . Quelle Surprise?
-
The Moose on TS who is a West Ham fan just said it should've been a red card for Morrison.
-
Look all over the place at the back...so technically bad
-
Fulham 0-3 Man Utd - Rooney
-
Who was the defender who mis-kicked there in the box? Clark? Woeful defending. Please spare us the Nolan chicken celebration-it is possibly the most annoying aspect of Premier League goal celebrations. Ever.
-
We're a bit keystone cops at the back
-
Talk Sport saying the most blatant sending off you'll ever see.
-
Scrappy, low quality game so far. Benteke not getting into it so far.
-
Manchester City 2-0 Norwich - David Silva
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
-
Wasn't a foul for me, we look ropey at the back against a shite opposition
-
Talk Sport saying the most blatant sending off you'll ever see.
Well they're talking utter shite as usual then.
-
Benteke touched the ball yet?
-
Benteke touched the ball yet?
Fell on it once.
-
I know it's stating the bleedin obvious but we really do need too get something out of this fixture...
-
Our moves going forward break down far too easily.
-
Francis saying Downing is the biggest threat to our defence. Excellent news.
-
Benteke touched the ball yet?
Fell on it once.
Ha
-
Long ball to Weimann seems to be the tactic
-
Having said we started brightly, we've been absolute pish since. It's only a matter of time until WHam score.
-
Try and look bothered Cristian.
-
Another boring, uninterested performance. Average midfield, that's the problem. How desperately do we need an exciting midfielder! Westwood, KEA....sigh, awful average football players. Come on Villa, step up
-
What a load of shit
-
We are about as exciting as a bag of turnips.
-
We don't have a midfield today apparently.
-
We don't have a midfield today apparently.
When do we?
-
we really do need to put a bit of steel and quality into our midfield.
-
Since the 10th minute we've reverted back to 'I have no clue how to play football' mode
-
We can hardly get the ball off them and when we do, we give it straight back.
-
Looks like we're waiting to go behind again.
-
we really do need to put a bit of steel and quality into our midfield.
Real quality yes. No more lower league £2m bits and pieces players. No more untried £2m European gambles. Someone who is tried and tested, pay some real money not more peanuts on monkeys.
-
Are we five at the back now or what are we?
-
We really are poor.
-
Take it it's not going well?
-
Afternoon everyone.
We look pretty shit again, then. It's horrible stuff so far.
-
Weimann's right foot is like a giant tennis racket.
-
Weimann's right foot is like a giant tennis racket.
Maybe he has the first known case of 50p foot.
-
Lovely foul Baker.
-
Noble-another entry into the hall of wankers.
-
Terrible from Baker.
-
Weimann's right foot is like a giant tennis racket.
That actually made me laugh out loud
-
Norwich taking it up the shitter as are Fulham. I know we ain't playing well, but I suppose it could be worse
-
Manchester City 4-0 Norwich - Alvaro Negredo
-
Both sides are, well, soul-crushingly shit.
-
Benteke nowhere to be seen
-
that foul is the only thing I've enjoyed so far - Noble looks easy to wind up
-
Why on earth are we unable to keep the ball for more than two or three passes?
-
Complicated set piece move straight from the training ground by Wham
-
We miss Delph more than we'd miss Benteke.
-
Manchester City 4-0 Norwich - Alvaro Negredo
I have a Man City 4-0 Man Utd 3-1 £1 double that might just come in, if Man City stop playing now.
-
Looks at the minute that we are terribly short of quality.
-
Was it really September when we last scored?
-
This team is not set up to score at all.
-
All we do is kick it up to the front player. Who immediately tries to lay it off back to nobody.... Everytime
-
I still don't know what El Ahmadi's role is. He's like a shit Makoun at the moment.
-
Both sides are, well, soul-crushingly shit.
At least West Ham can pass the ball.
-
Talk Sport saying the most blatant sending off you'll ever see.
Well they're talking utter shite as usual then.
Good. Because they're saying were awful.
-
I think Tekkers hates it at Villa and can't wait to go...he know's our midfiled is bunk.
-
*sigh* I wish we could be as sexy as Southampton. Great goal.
-
Both sides are, well, soul-crushingly shit.
At least West Ham can pass the ball.
They are passing it and keeping it significantly better than we are. We look awful.
-
All we do is kick it up to the front player. Who immediately tries to lay it off to nobody.... Everytime
How dare you! We're definitely not a long ball team, remember - Lambert gets quite upset if you make that sort of accusation!
-
There's going to be a Manchester wan* fest on MOTD tonite - looks like we'll be on last unless something changes.
-
Stoke 1-1 Southampton - Jay Rodriguez
-
Is this the worst villa midfield for an era?
El Ehamadi
Sylla
Westwood
I genuinely don't think there is a premiership midfielder there even if you joined them all together.
-
We are playing like its the second leg of a cup tie and we're 3-0 from the first
-
At the start of the season I never once thought we could go 2 league games without scoring let alone possibly 4. This looks poor and we are so devoid of ideas in the middle.
-
Both sides are, well, soul-crushingly shit.

We are awful. We're awful more often than we're decent. I'm baffled Lambert has the support that he does, I really am.
-
Paul AVFC: Bright and entertaining first half so far. Just no goals.
-
We should play with wingers.......(puts on tin hat)
-
All we do is kick it up to the front player. Who immediately tries to lay it off to nobody.... Everytime
How dare you! We're definitely not a long ball team, remember - Lambert gets quite upset if you make that sort of accusation!
I'm not a fan of Lambert or his coaching team.
-
This'll be last on MoTD.
-
Paul AVFC: Bright and entertaining first half so far. Just no goals.
Hmmmmm!!!!
-
This team is not set up to score at all.
It don't look like it's set up to play football either...
-
At the start of the season I never once thought we could go 2 league games without scoring let alone possibly 4. This looks poor and we are so devoid of ideas in the middle.
I know. We always looked capable of nicking goals even when not playing well. Not anymore.
-
West Brom 1-0 Crystal Palace - Saido Berahino
-
Paul AVFC: Bright and entertaining first half so far. Just no goals.
Sounds good. Which game is that?
-
Let's just hope we're still a team of two halves today. We surely can't play any worse than this.
-
Well I've watched 10 minutes of this, and we'v e been awful. The midfield has zero creativity and we're playing five defenders against fucking West Ham.
-
We're awful because we never have any possession....39% or something along those lines. Again...Dreadful Villa. That 'pass' by Sylla then,....................my God! And then back to Westwood...who passes backwards. Crap.
-
Paul AVFC: Bright and entertaining first half so far. Just no goals.
That must be Lambert under a pseudonym.
-
This is what it must be like in Hell. Season after season of slowly inching to 40 pts.
-
We know Lambert can get us playing well going forward. I think he is desperately searching for some kind of balance from one end to the other.
-
All we do is kick it up to the front player. Who immediately tries to lay it off to nobody.... Everytime
How dare you! We're definitely not a long ball team, remember - Lambert gets quite upset if you make that sort of accusation!
I'm not a fan of Lambert or his coaching team.
Neither am I. I think we are a long ball team, however much he tries to deny it, and we;re a poor one at that. Which is doubly frustrating as we look much better when we pass it around.
-
Hull 1-0 Sunderland......Carlos og
-
Can someone remind me which is the boring long ball team and which team likes to get it on the floor and pass it?
-
We've barely been out of our own half, we appear not to have bothered with a midfield today, too.
We'll string two passes together and the third will invariably be a 50-50 ball, at best, most of which fall to them.
It has been like that for a few weeks now, and doesn't look like it is getting better any time soon.
-
My twitter feed says we've had 19 passes into the final third. Six successful. Most of them seem to have travelled 60 yards plus.
Not that I'm watching but it does sound like we're looking rather like a Mcleish team?
-
We've been absolute gash for the last 35 minutes. Piss poor performance!
-
Zzzz Zzzz
-
Sounds pretty poor in honesty. I'm listening to London 94.9 and I'm struck by how openly pro-West Ham they are. Deary me, shut them up, Villa.
-
Well this team is set up completely wrong and we need changes there is absolutely fuck all creativity. This is now 3 and a half games we haven't scored for. Awful.
-
This is quite incredible. A team that can't defend for shit (us) against a team that can't score for their lives ('ammers). It's like watching a drunk trying to poke someone's eye out with cooked spaghetti.
-
Well that was as crap a display from us as I've seen in a long time.
There is only one team in this game.
Major improvement needed in the 2nd half.
I wish we had a midfield.
-
Utter shite out passed by fucking West Ham
The midfield is non existent they offer no out ball for the defence and no support to attack.Just constant long balls it's embarrassing
-
This is as bad as it gets. All those that hounded McLeish out because of his football style need to have a look at that 45mins and tell me how this fucking drivel is any better.
-
Is this what it's become then?
Buying heaps of players for fuck all to try and sell on for profit and battling relegation year after year, it's like being Wigan.
I'd bite Benteke's leg off for a 0-0 right now.
-
RED CARD - Hull 1-0 Sunderland - Lee Cattermole
-
Cant find your own players when you have the ball, no surprise we are not creating anything.
-
RED CARD - Hull 1-0 Sunderland - Lee Cattermole
First time for everything I suppose
-
Aah, you can always count on a Cattermole red card when things are bad.
-
Id love to see Johnson get some minutes, can't be any less effective than the midfield was in the first half.
-
This is quite incredible. A team that can't defend for shit (us) against a team that can't score for their lives ('ammers). It's like watching a drunk trying to poke someone's eye out with cooked spaghetti.
What worries me is that not long ago, we were saying that we couldn't defend for shit, but we'd always score.
Now we've started defending a bit better - a bit - but stopped scoring.
-
That was desperately poor. We're missing Delph and Gabby big time (which in itself says a lot). Who's on the bench?
-
At least there's Crystal P and Sunderland.
-
Can't help feeling depressed at that, these being the start of the 'easy' games.
-
Sunderland down to 9 men. Them, Palace, Norwich and Fulham looking shocking.
Lambert needs way more time than he has had so far.
-
HT Analysis : Absolute garbage!
Positives:
a clean sheet and maybe the back three playing ok
Negatives:
We're supposed to be playing a 3-5-2 against a side that are having to field Kevin Nolan up front ... not only that but the back 3 are actually a back 5 with another 3 sat right on top of them. Thus you could fit the QE2 lengthwise in the gap between our so called midfield and attack
We can't keep the ball when its hoofed up field as there's nobody anywhere near Weimann/Benteke, which is playing right into West Ham's hands as they've got nothing to defend against. We've had a couple of scrappy efforts (both on the counter surprise surprise) but apart from that ...
If there is a more ineffective/ill equipped midfield three playing in the Premiership this afternoon i'd be amazed, at one point about 10 minutes from HT all three of the plonkers were within a radius of about 5 feet of each other in the centre as West Ham had the complete freedom of the rest of the middle third of the pitch
Fucking painful viewing
-
Villa are creating very little, unable to retain the ball, and clearly have no plan other than a long ball. Benteke has had no service and Weimann is working hard but he's not a natural finisher.
Hate to say it, but Wet Spam are playing better football than Villa. Lambert needs to change something for the second half. For a team who spent a lot of money on forwards, they aren't delivering much, how long since we scored a goal?
-
Well that was as crap a display from us as I've seen in a long time.
You obviously missed the Hull game.
-
We miss Delph more than we missed Benteke. There's nothing going through the midfield without him.
-
This is as bad as it gets. All those that hounded McLeish out because of his football style need to have a look at that 45mins and tell me how this fucking drivel is any better.
Have to agree it's shocking
-
Boring half of football- real lack of quality from both sides .
-
Sunderland down to 9 men. Them, Palace, Norwich and Fulham looking shocking.
Lambert needs way more time than he has had so far.
Do you trust Lambert to spend the £ any better than he has so far?
-
Is motty on crack?
-
Sunderland down to 9
-
Sunderland down to 9 men. Them, Palace, Norwich and Fulham looking shocking.
Lambert needs way more time than he has had so far.
I'm sure he'll get it. Next season will be a big one for him.
-
Sunderland down to 9 men. Them, Palace, Norwich and Fulham looking shocking.
Lambert needs way more time than he has had so far.
Meaning Altidore is playing?
-
Question is, do we want this enough?
-
Lambert out!
-
Sunderland down to 9 men. Them, Palace, Norwich and Fulham looking shocking.
Lambert needs way more time than he has had so far.
One has to hope that somebody who has played at the top level and appears as competitive as you would want in your manager is just as frustrated with his players as we are watching them. He's never going to blast them publicly which is a good thing, but he's giving it to them behind closed doors. Yes, he needs more time. Off course, but this is a backward step this season in terms of creativity even though as a unit we look more solid than last season.
-
... All those that hounded McLeish out because of his football style ...
You mean you didn't?
-
Must be much more positive, our midfield 3 is simply too negative.
-
This is as bad as it gets. All those that hounded McLeish out because of his football style need to have a look at that 45mins and tell me how this fucking drivel is any better.
the massive difference is that McLeish actually wanted to play this way and while on occasion it will happen under Lambert he doesn't. I hope you can see that.
-
Question is, do we want this enough?
Question is can I stay awake if the 2nd half is as bad as the 1st.
-
We actually need to give Benteke service.
-
Talk Sport saying Benteke awful. Cue a second half hat trick ;)
-
I think the main problem is lack of quality in the squad. Guzan and Benteke are very good players. The rest of them, though, are pretty mediocre.
-
Boring half of football- real lack of quality from both sides .
Hopefully, though, our second half will be the good one that we seem to have (i.e. we're seemingly incapable of stringing two good ones together in the same game).
-
I'm tempted to watch another game second half.
Fuck, that was boring.
-
I think the main problem is lack of quality in the squad. Guzan and Benteke are very good players. The rest of them, though, are pretty mediocre.
That's mighty generous of you, Paulie.
-

I've actually just put Hull Sunderland on for a bit.
-

Now we've started defending a bit better - a bit - but stopped scoring.
Frightening isn't it? Ironically, we've brought in strikers, presumably to ensure this didn't happen, when what we actually needed was a midfielder or three.
-

I didn't want to come across as overly negative.
-
I'm tempted to watch another game second half.
Fuck, that was boring.
I'm tempted to watch the washing machine cycle.
-
KEA was reasonably good at the start of the season - he looks like a little boy lost today
-
Not watching the game. How is our formation faring against their 460. I have to say it seems a very strange way to play. Three centre backs against no centre fwd. two wing backs against their wingers who can presumably afford to play right up the pitch and stay there with all that cover in midfield.
Not sure how to change it though. None of our bench options have convinced up to now. Maybe switch to 433 but maybe the one good thing so far is our defensive aerial dominance w the three centre backs?
I don't like this constant changing of formation. I don't think it can help the cohesiveness of our play.
I expected us to be a pleasing on the eye passing side this season. We've really not seen that at all.
We do look a lot more resilient defensively though.
I bet benteke is feeling rather frustrated.
-
I'm tempted to watch another game second half.
Fuck, that was boring.
I'm tempted to watch the washing machine cycle.
This paint drying is ace.
-
What Have I Done To Deserve This? by The Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield has been earworm since I heard it on Heart FM in the office yesterday (it was the one ray of light in a beacon of shit...like a Benteke winner this afternoon hopefully). I spent the first half learning to play it on guitar. It's my new Villa song.
-
KEA was reasonably good at the start of the season - he looks like a little boy lost today
KEa's had about 2 good games in 16 months, he's absolute gash.
-
Absolute wank so far, making a Sam Allardyce side look like Barcelona.
I'm struggling to know where to start in summing up what was wrong with that showing.
The scary part is there's little or nothing on the bench to change it. Its down to Lambert to rouse them now and I'm not expecting a lot. A nil-nil would be a moral victory to be honest.
-
No goals in over 5 hours of football
-
Thank god I didn't go. I nearly always go to West Ham away but I just knew this would be turgid and there is nothing about us currently that wants to make me part with well over £80 and the whole of my Saturday to watch what we are serving up at the moment. Hopefully, that will now lead to us scoring three in the second half...
-
Well that was as crap a display from us as I've seen in a long time.
You obviously missed the Hull game.
I did as it happens.
My son's christening was on that day.
-
Missing Delph badly, nothing driving forward from the midfield. West Ham should be down to 10. I do worry that there aren't a massive amount of options from the bench.
-
0-0 will be a moral draw.
-

Quite. I don't really know why he bought Kozak, either. Or Helenius. Or certainly both of them, anyway.
The midfield is awful. KEA is a four decent games a season player, Sylla flatters to deceive, Westwood has regressed, only Delph has improved. Tonev looks like a parks player most of the time.
It's all admirable, the young players thing, but it's really, really difficult to make it work, or else everyone would be doing it.
There's also a line past which it becomes an excuse for not buying in decent, proven players more than an actual plan.
-
Positives:
We're 45 minutes through the game.
Negatives:
There's still 45 minutes to go.
The referee may play additional time.
-
Not good enough again.
-
Where's Gary Gardner at? Isn't he fit again?
-

What's our traditional implosion minute?
-
We need a massive improvement.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure there is a place for Helenius in the team. He's a creative player, can produce the unexpected and looks like he can score, too.
No idea why he bought Kozak, though.
-
Mark Noble has one of the most punchable faces in the game.
-
Bacuna booked for fouling Downing.

It's not so much about Helenius - you're right, he might turn out to be a decent player, but he's come from the Danish league, and is young. It's not so much that we signed any of those strikers, but you've got to wonder whether it was really sensible to buy him AND Kozak. Not to mention Bowery.
-
Oh fuck off Westwood, you are crap mate.
-
£7m for Kozak?
-
Our passing is fucking atrocious.
-
Weimann...Westwood....oh deary me....clueless.
-

Yep, which suggests our team just doesn't have the quality needed to remain solid at the back while posing a consistent goal threat. It seems to be either one or the other at the moment.
-
Is it a new by-law that Villa players can't pass to other Villa players? We either spazz the simple pass or run it into trouble.
-
Looking at it 3 months in...wasn't the greatest bit of business in the summer for Lambert.
-
£7m for Kozak?
A waste of 6.5m
-
give us all something to shout and scream about Villa. in a good way
-
Looking at it 3 months in...wasn't the greatest bit of business in the summer for Lambert.
Okore looked good.
-
I don't have a problem with taking a chance on the likes of helenius and bowery. Even if half of them don't come off but the other do, it's a risk worth taking.
But relying almost entirely on these signings, plus our not-as-good-as-we'd-hoped youth products is a bit of a bind at times.
Having said that, put a fit gabby, Delph, n'zogbia, Okore and an in form Weimann and benteke in that side and it'd be a completely different sight
-

Yea, forgot about him. Do like what I saw.

Wasteful..

We're going to find it nigh on impossible to progress if we just keep buying the same level of player.
More of the same wasn't going to help enough this summer, but that's exactly what we did.
-
That 'shot' from Sylla sums this up. We don't need five fucking defenders against West ham.
-
We can't lose if Sylla is playing.
-
Quite. I don't really know why he bought Kozak, either. Or Helenius. Or certainly both of them, anyway.

And Delph is the only one of those that Lambert didn't buy. Although, having said that, he is also the only one who has (so far) been given the time to prove his worth.
-
Do we miss N'Zog...?????
-
For all the shitness. Can anyone see us nicking this? Helenius?
-
Can,t get a link, think this may be a good thing
-
If Benteke stays fit, I wonder how many games Kozak will get? Something tells me it won't be 7 million quid's worth.
-

Oh, I know, I'm in agreement.
I just wish that, in a team so woefully devoid of creativity and flair, Lambert would try something different. We seem to be increasingly workman-like (and really, I mean shite).
-
Do we miss N'Zog...?????
I like Nzogbia...He would give us an outlet, some creativity.
-
Do we miss N'Zog...?????
Right now.... Yes
-
this is indeed shit, the sort of game the Scottish manager would be proud of.
-
If Benteke stays fit, I wonder how many games Kozak will get? Something tells me it won't be 7 million quid's worth.
He will next season when Benteke's gone.
-
Someone will nick this at the death. A goal mouth scramble off four arses. I just pray it's us
-
this is indeed shit, the sort of game the Scottish manager would be proud of.
Mcleish would love Westwood. I personally think Westwood is as average a footballer as you could get..I was warming to him last year, but this season....a 4/10 player
-
Hope he brings Helenius on.
-
...and hoof...
-
Weimann off injured?
-

He will get more than his fair share once Benteke bails out.
-
Ah well, so much for that.
-
Awful from Lowton.
-
this is indeed shit, the sort of game the Scottish manager would be proud of.
''I thought the lads played well, we go again'' Yawnnnn
-
Kozak....come on!
-

A poor mans Joe Allen at best...and Allen is pants.
-

I'd stick Helenius in midfield and tell him to make late runs into the box.

Thing is, though, what's he meant to say?

Remember QPR away last season? A sterile 0-0 against a team that hadn't won a game yet? That was the day I feared the new dawn wasn't materialising.
Today feels similar. Feels as though we settle for surviving.
Que Benteke second half ha-trick (hopefully).
-
Kozak for Weimann, Oh dear I fear I see what's coming.
-
Our last goalscorer goes off injured.
-
Kozak. So, two big men. Great. Who needs playmakers when you can just lumber at people?
-
Fuck me, some of our passing is diabolical.
-
This is so frustrating. It's like trying to compete in a Formula One race driving a new Mini. It looks nice, and all, but has neither the power or the design to do much than just be there.
-
Kozak. :|
I really want Helenius to get game time.
-
Some?
-
5 at the back and two target men
Urgh
Feels like an inevitable 1-0 west ham win to me, Nolan on about 78 minutes
-
Manchester City 5-0 Norwich - Yaya Toure
-
This is so shit I have started to put together a shelf unit the missus got from IKEA...
-
Some?
Passing?
-
This game is like watching two EDL members discuss Proust.
-
this is indeed shit, the sort of game the Scottish manager would be proud of.
''I thought the lads played well, we go again'' Yawnnnn
Thing is, though, what's he meant to say?
True... I'm sick of hearing it because we are getting worse
-
Think Wham are very unsportsmanlike - we keep giving them the ball and they don't give it straight back
-
"Villa have now not scored in more than five-and-a-half hours of Premier League action and bring on Czech Republic striker Libor Kozak in place of Weimann."
Thanks BBC.
-
At least Fulham and Norwich have both lost today, likely relegation rivals the way things are going..
-
Some?
Passing?
Or?
-
This is so shit I have started to put together a shelf unit the missus got from IKEA...
i've been watchjng Monsters Inc again with my kids. Like i haven't watched that enough. But an upgrade on today's offering down at the Boleyn

1-1 wasn't it? The dearly departed Brett Holman with our goal as I recall.
-
This game is like watching two EDL members discuss Proust.
How do you know?
-
I personally would give Lambert all this season and next...I think thats 3 transfer windows with probably the Benteke cash to see what he achieves.
2 years of this and bottom half finishes....is it good enough, not sure.
-
An out of form benteke, and an injured gabby, Weimann and n'zogbia is the last thing we need coming into our run of fixtures. These current fixtures will go a massive way towards dictating how we do this year. And we don't exactly look full of goals do we?
-
We are truly crap, played off the park by a Big Sam team
-
I've got several tabs open and literally every time i tab back to the Villa game we're giving the ball away.
-
we are truly terrible!
-
This game is like watching two EDL members discuss Proust.
How do you know?
I'm their don at Oxford.
-
Could do with taking Bacuna or Lowton off, going 442 Diamond and bringing on Helenius or Tonev to play behind the strikers.
-
Just got in. How we playing chaps, anything of interest of happen?
-
Downing, Nolan, Cole J, Cole C. Has Fat Sam been in a coma?
-
Carlton Cole is on.
-
Just got in. How we playing chaps, anything of interest of happen?
Shit. No.
-
Just got in. How we playing chaps, anything of interest of happen?
Probably worse than the Hull game.
-
Grealish, Carruthers, Gardner, Burke, Robinson(maybe the incorrect spelling), Johnson.....play them. At least they're creative.
-
Just got in. How we playing chaps, anything of interest of happen?
Nothing to see here.
-
Our pass success is must be atrocious.
-
Carlton Cole is on.
It will cap things off nicely if he puts us out of our misery. Nice little header from a cross from the ******
-
Our forwards get no real quality service...that needs to be addressed on the training field or in January
-
Dale Stephens scores against Blues....
-
We are making a shit team look good.
-
So I haven't missed much then I take it. And thanks chaps.
-
Predictably reliable.
-
So I haven't missed much then I take it. And thanks chaps.
I've been wondering whether I should have a slice of that apple pie that's in my fridge.
-
We are making a shit team look good.
Oh, we're really rather good at that.
-
Fulham 1-3 Man Utd - Wayne Rooney OG
-
There has been no ball retention. This has been absolutely dire
-
This is so bad rather than watching I'm trying to work out which Arabian language the commentator is speaking in. Although it could be Welsh. Or Geordie
-
this is indeed shit, the sort of game the Scottish manager would be proud of.

Sorry 1-1 yes. But the same principle. What happened to our good start?
-
There was a mildly interesting incident in the first half when Weimann was clean through but lost out in the challenge from Morrison. A challenge which looked fair at first glance but on the replays looked like a foul, and therefore possibly a sending off. Seems a fuck of a long time ago now though.
-
Page 22.
-
And amaze yourselves with this fact: these are all millionaire professional footballers.
-
Bollocks!
-
Villa just unable to control the ball when a pass does reach them, it bounces 5 yards away most of the time and we lose possession. Pity Martinez didn't come to VP, at least his teams play decent football.
-
Oooooh Benteke
-
Villa remind me of a team trying to remember how to play football after coming out of a coma. Absolutely hopeless.
-
bar...Benteke...
-
Finally a passing move and it creates a chance.
-
Not sure if we should pick ourselves up and go again or just be grateful that we have an honest bunch of lads
-
I honestly thought we would be better than this technically. That the players that have come in were the exact opposite of the MON era. Who wanted the ball and could knock it about with a bit of pace and purpose. A bit like Swansea are or southampton are becoming.
-
Man City six up on Norwich, at least there may be 3 worse teams than us to go down again this season. This is what it has come to, the height of one's aspirations
-
Manchester City 6-0 Norwich - Sergio Aguero
-
I missed the first 25mins by the grace of god! Absolutely no ball retention.
-
I brought the chances with me!
-
If we had passed like that all day we'd be winning.
-
At least the bottom three are doing a good job of making us feel better.
Lambert often tries an attacking midfield sub around this time, perhaps Tonev for sylla or KEA?
It's a sound idea in principle as the game opens up but it's rarely worked to date
-

I said in another thread last week that our players simply aren't very good. Or agreed with someone who said that. And I got slated being accused of being lazy amongst other things. I stand by that assertion
-
I brought the chances with me!
Just as turgid as hull away pws- a hugely boring game lacking any quality.
-
Could be worse. We could be Norwich. According to Final Score their three strikers have managed 6 shots on target between them all season.
This post was brought to you BarrelScrapersInc.
-
how on earth did we win at Arsenal?
-
We're gonna score in a minute.
-
These three points are there for the taking if Lambert is brave enough.
Get KEA off, he adds nothing. Put Tonev on, play him wide and get the ball to him as often as possible with instructions to cross from deep. The two big lads will cause havoc if Sylla and Westwood push on to pick up the scraps.
-
To be honest we may scrape a win but even if we do it cannot hide how desperately lacking in quality our side is - it really is worrying .
Only decent thing on the pitch is sian Massey and shes no oil painting :(
-
Fucking hell, no clue constantly going long.
-
how on earth did we win at Arsenal?
Home form has corroded the confidence we had on the opening day. Hard work and closing down got us that win.
-
And Kozak has done well since he came on...........
-
how on earth did we win at Arsenal?
Just about to ask the same question.
-
how on earth did we win at Arsenal?
Home form has corroded the confidence we had on the opening day. Hard work and closing down got us that win.
True. We also looked so fast, full of energy and exciting...
-
And Kozak has done well since he came on...........
Yes. Game-changing.
-
Fun fact. If Stoke keeper Begovic scores another today he becomes their top scorer.
-
how on earth did we win at Arsenal?
Home form has corroded the confidence we had on the opening day. Hard work and closing down got us that win.

That's the thing lacking.
We do not fight to close teams down any more. I just don't understand why.
-
And Kozak has done well since he came on...........
Yes. Game-changing.
:)
-

I haven't thought we've worked hard in any game since we were robbed at Chelsea.
-

Indeed - how have we gone from looking so good that day to the state we look today :(
-
If Lambert really wants the club to progress, he's going to have to ask Santa for a new midfield this Christmas. 'Cos this one isn't anything like good enough.
-
I'll take any kind of Villa goal right now and not care at all. But we're not really very good, it's true.

Swansea at home early last season we did it and it worked a treat. I'm stumped why we don't do it more.
-
To be fair to Lambert the midfield trio cost a combined £5m quid.
-
KEA is so irritating. I just want to grab him and ask him 'what do you offer?' Slow, a poor passer, slow, slow, slow......Tonev please. Anyone who runs forward with more pace than a dead ant.
-

I haven't thought we've worked hard in any game since we were robbed at Chelsea.
Indeed. That whole aspect of our game has gone. I think it's because we did that and still, mostly, got beat. It must be very hard to motivate the players time after time with 'keep working hard, the results will come' when, in fact, they haven't.
-
Unfortunately pride of the midlands are still winning one nill
-
Again we are maybe fortunate there are a few very poor sides in this division.
-
To be fair to Lambert the midfield trio cost a combined £5m quid.
That's true. You can only buy 5/7ths of a Kozak for that.
-
I'll take any kind of Villa goal right now and not care at all. But we're not really very good, it's true.
While I would be pissed off to lose this, I couldn't say we could grumble, because it would be all to do with our failings.
-
Unfortunately pride of the midlands are still winning one nill
Fortunately it's against a fellow relegation candidate
-
Feels like Lambo is settling for a draw today.
-
how on earth did we win at Arsenal?
Not by playing 5 at the back and 3 defensive midfielders.
-
Times like this it is worth remembering that much more expensively assembled sides under MON and Gregory could be just as hopeless in possession.
The back end of last season was the first time in years is seen a villa side pass the ball like you'd expect an established top flight side to. We were playing in triangles, Lowton and Westwood were crucial to how we were playing the game.
We just look a lot shitter on the ball this season
Just hope we can regain that. Surely we're not deliberately trying to become a more direct and defensive side?
-
West Ham look much better than we do, they're at least managing to hold on to the ball for decent spells, even if they've not created much, but this is two teams almost entirely bereft of quality.
-
Citeh are (http://www.eluminousmedia.com/LMnew/images/7up.png)
-
Guzan has been great.
-
Manchester City 7-0 Norwich - Dzeko
-
I hate Downing..but he's played much better than anyone in our team today. Feel dirty saying that.
-
2 - 0 Baggies
-
We're getting a good pummelling and still they can't score.
-
City seven up, Tesco Bags two up - both good news against our relegation rivals
-
Bitters are two up. At least we know Palace are taking one spot. And Sunderland almost certainly another.
-
Bitters are two up. At least we know Palace are taking one spot. And Sunderland almost certainly another.
Us, Fulham or Norwich for the other spot? Maybe Hull or Cardiff in the mix
-
Oh, to nick it now...
-
Baker should never be allowed to pass.
-
Bitters are two up. At least we know Palace are taking one spot. And Sunderland almost certainly another.
Us, Fulham or Norwich for the other spot? Maybe Hull or Cardiff in the mix
Nah.
The thing is, we're poor, but we have at least had a really tough opening to the season, those are fixtures done and dusted. Shit though we may be for long periods, there are some truly awful sides in the PL this season.
-
Great save... git
-
In all seriousness i'm not remotely worried about the drop. We'll finish around 11th, higher if we can finally start playing like we all know we can.
-

Probably true Paulie though I fear one or two of those sides doing a Wigan and upping their game against the 'big' teams
-
I wonder if Risso is enjoying the game?
-
How've they got 4 mins ET?
-
Enough. Time for bed. Really really really love Villa, but am really not enjoying watching us at all this season. I hate being so critical of the team, but I feel we've been largely poor this year. As for players in the team who deserve any credit-Guzan, Vlaar, Clark, Bacuna....Delph. That's it. The rest have been poor. Not good enough Lambert-we expect more and we deserve more. Up the Villa
And, Baker, you're fucking crap.
-

Yeah, I think we'll (just) avoid the relegation scrap.
Which will make this the most boring season in a while, I expect.
-
Not sure what Kuzak was bought for because he certainly isnt going to score goals.
-
Bad as we've been we've had the best chances.
-
Utter gash. Please just blow the whistle.
-
I don't know what the gameplan was today. We were both poor in quality and tactically.
-
I wonder if Risso is enjoying the game?
He will be fucking loving it...
-
Rubbish but had the chances to win and got another clean sheet.
-
Bit better in 2nd half and when we did play football we created the best chance.Good to get another clean sheet but need to create more.Kozak not sure why he came on didn't offer anything really
-
Bad as we've been we've had the best chances.
same as Hull. Thing is, as with last week unless we take them it means nothing at all. We are have been wasteful this season and on top of that we have really not scored many goals out of the blue. Like really top finishes from long range or great moves. It seems sadly missing this time around.
-
fuc***g hell, i need to watch arse vs Liverpool just to cleanse my soul from that utter rubbish.
-
We're not even an upper mid table side on this performance. The squad isn't good enough as today has shown. Missing Delph the mid field was poor and very few chances created. We won't be relegated but we won't be top ten either.
