I'm quite taken aback by the wave of joy regarding Woolwich losing but then it dawned on me. Joy. Not a word you could associate with them. Dour, bitter, pernicious and desperately negative particularly given the talent in the squad. The only team who celebrate a narrow one nil victory in the league like a cup final. There have been sides like this before but they were generally playing to their strengths because of the lack of money.

Add Piers Morgan into the mix and it all becomes clear.

Oh, and that ridiculous "song".

Mikel Arteta is just George Graham for Gen Z. They’ve utterly reverted to the late 80s/early 90s  version of themselves.

The Killers spent more time in PSG's half than Arsenal did in over 130mins. https://x.com/Pogblah/status/2061002896972419462

I still thinks it's a bit OTT to still be celebrating them losing quite so much. But then, I don't even understand the hatred towards Birmingham City, so what do I know?

Not celebrating. Their fanbase are very very strange and a lot don’t seem to possess the ability to self-reflect, so it’s been fun watching them lashing out on sm since last night.

And you need to live amongst Them to get it. Living away from Brum and especially in a different country the local rivalries just don’t have the same energy but they’re the talk of the city for weeks before and after.

Was refreshing to hear the MotD coverage not be all out praise for Arse. They seemed to admit it wasn't a penalty and also had some mild criticism that Saka was just being used as a defender. However the best thing about it was the ending Minnie Riperton number although spoiled with game commentaries played over the top.

Sad thing is you just know that racist abust is incoming for the players that missed.

Yeah, I just mentioned that. It's shit that that's what immediately comes to mind. Probably getting worse as well.

I wonder?  If it was England, of course the abuse would follow.  However, for all their entitlement, Arsenal have a diverse support base.

Arsenal are an odd bunch.

Probably 50% of the black people I've ever met who are interested in football have been Arsenal fans, but with no questions asked.

Not like Man Utd or Liverpool fans, "yeah you were born and grew up in Birmingham, your Dad has a Birmingham accent but he was born in Manchester? And his uncle lived in Liverpool for six months? Yeah. Okay."

Cynicism abounds.

But with Arsenal fans? "Ah, okay, you're an Arsenal fan? Well, you are black, so fair enough!"

I understand Arsenal are in an area of London with lots of black people, but what impact does that have on the ethnicity of their plastic fans in Birmingham?

Puzzler, to me.

I think Arsenal have simply had some pretty iconic black players in the. Premier League era, not least in their Invincibles team. I think it stems from there.

Yeah, that tends to be the case for the few black Arsenal fans I know. Probably helps that they were winning a lot too mind.

Entertaining article in the Irish Times (behind a paywall) suggesting they are so hated because they are literally wasting everyone's time. 150 million people were watching them take almost a minute to take a throw - three different players could have just taken it but there was an elaborate routine to avoid it. Similar with the corner where the ref blew for half-time. The notion is that they reduce the actual playing time to a minimum to frustrate the opposition and bore them into making mistakes. Tika taka is I guess the same philosophy but at least there's some actual football involved.

Im pretty sure at one point they deliberately kicked a spare ball onto to field, to stop PSG taking a quick throw in as well.

They remind me of the stories about John Beck and Cambridge United.

I worked with a Black lad who was Arsenal because his Dad was a Spurs fan...

They did do that. It irked me.
