As Snithy said earlier, Tyler Dibling has the makings of being  something very special, there’s a Grealish/Waddle vibe about him. He wasn’t at his best today as I thought Rogers did a decent job of stopping his runs. Overall we were worthy winners. Duran made his goal, Watkins wouldn’t have done similar. Watkins messed up a number of chances, Duran would probably have converted a few of them. Watkins is the better player, such is football.

We should have won far more comfortably but a win is all that matters, the rare clean sheet a bonus. Kamara easily MOM. We also have a contender for the wettest, windiest and coldest fixture ever.

It was a poor game today, with far too many mistakes, but for me the worst culprit is Tielemans. He give the ball away far too often, and then just throws his arms up in the air, instead of trying to regain possession. He's out weak link in midfield.

He started the season really well, but agree that he has given the ball away far too often in recent games.  Would like to see what a Kamara and Onana partnership looks like in central midfield really.

Watkins isn’t a worry for me, he’ll still assist and score plenty. Philogene on the other hand, he’s just not good enough to be our only alternative wide right.

Yep, Diaby was quality and a massive upgrade on Philogene. Qualifying for Champions League and then having to replace him with a 2nd division player stinks. These rules are a silly.

We didn’t have to replace him with philogene though. We could have banked the £6-£7m and spent £30m plus on a player.

Or kept kellyman and seen what he could do.

Kellyman isn’t a winger, nor an upgrade and I thought we had to raise funds by selling Diaby and Dougie.

I thought kellyman was a wide player? We spent 15m on philiogene dont pay that and keep kellyman (who we sold for 20m) which means between both deals its only a difference of 5m

How many times has kellyman played?

Tielemans is the last person to play out to, his reaction times are far too slow, both sides could have given a goal away by goalkeepers trying to be outfielders. We won thats a plus.

Kamara was superb, if we could get Onana along side him we could really start to dominate teams.
The defence was very good defending, just wish Carlos would stop giving the ball away.
SJM, Rogers and Duran were very good. Tielemans not quite at it.
Bailey Watkins Barkley Philogene poor.
EMI fine.
Dibling is really talented ,yes very Waddlesque.

Dreadful performance against really poor opposition.

McGinn was great. Why Watkins didn’t square to him twice when he would of had a tap in i really can’t fathom.

Watching again on MOTD you have to credit the defender on both occasions ( was it the same one?), he did a fantastic job of making up Watkins mind for him by shutting off the square pass forcing him onto his left, then closed space down very well. Great defending, Ollie should have done much better but credit where its due.

Yep, it was Konsa-like defending, very good stuff.

Watkins confidence levels are just down a bit, and his touch is suffering too.

We also have a contender for the wettest, windiest and coldest fixture ever.

Up there with Oldham for wind chill.

It was only my lads 4th ever game, and his first win. I was saying to him that I'd been going to the game for what seems like forever and that was as cold and wet as I'd ever been. He replied that 'yes its the coldest and wettest he'd ever been at his games, but it was still brilliant'

Makes it all seem worthwhile, nearly.

I think I'd be a little concerned how the ball was going to move forward without either Youri or Barkley as one of the pair, especially as we've seen that if the CF works to stop Pau getting on the ball we can struggle even with one of them.

Decent win, iffy performance from what I saw. Anyone off to complete a fun Saturday in the bad weather by dancing to the Human League at Brum arena tonight?

Yep!  I did. After taking an hour and a half to get from Lichfield Rd to the Mailbox in the car 😤
Hope you enjoyed the gig Eamonn.

Naff game but we were clearly levels above them even playing poorly - 19 shots to 4 and never trouble in the 2nd half. We just lacked precision and failed to make the most of multiple situations which could have given the score line a far more comfortable appearance.

SJM was my pick, his pressing from central areas makes a huge difference and he set the tone. Rogers was mostly good and a little spell out in the inside left position is doing him some good. Duran took his goal well, Kamara was brill and the back four comfortable albeit against limited opposition. Tielemans and Bailey poor and it's starting to look like the latter might not recover the electric form of last season at all, which is gutting.

Tielemans has good game/bad game syndrome, he is very inconsistent.
Yesterday. He got caught in possession too many times, got muscled off the ball easily and slowed the game down too much when in possession.

He is a much better player when he’s playing at a higher tempo and dictating the game, rather than playing as defensive midfielder.
