We obviously can't spend any money.

We've spent £20m or so on Malen and were happy to spend another £20m on Bade.

Even without the money were prepared to spend on Bade (which obviously hasn't been spent yet) only Man City have spent more than us this window.

We sold Philogene to cover Malen and Carlos will cover a centre back. It's one in an one out and no net spend.

To be honest, that’s how I’d want us to be run. Especially in January where there’s seldom good value out there.

If it weren't for PSR Newcastle would've done another City, who'd be continuing to do City 1.0, and what we were up to would be pretty fuckin' moot.

Indeed. When I see PIF not being able to spend billions on players, and the positions of Spurs and Man Utd in the table, and even the unusual position of Man City, I’m increasingly thinking that PSR is more of a friend to us than an enemy.

Forest, Bournemouth too.

Agree.

If no PSR newcastle  would do be probably winning the league and signing every  player  on stupid wages

They could cherry pick mpst players on the planet. Rather have PSR  than that happening

Well Badé would have resulted in a net spend increase.

Possibly selling Buendia as well was the plan if we bought Bade? I don't know, it's just pretty clear that we won't be spending much this window. Which is Ok. The answer to everything can be lets buy another player like Guardiola.

I’m not suggesting that there is no psr just a less restrictive one. It basically demonstrated that as soon as teams with smaller turnovers qualify for Europe they will struggle the next season.

Man City Man Utd and spurs have much higher headroom.  That fact that despite that the last 2 are doing so bad is just an illustration the clubs with bigger turnovers can be badly ran.

There has to be some form of regulation, I read something about wages being 95%+ of revenues….that is beyond ridiculous.  Unfortunately like everything any form of regulation will only support the usual suspects who hold the control & hinder those who want to compete with those clubs.

Back to Foyth…had we not already signed a right back to go with the 2 that we already have I’d have been ok with that but we actually need a big, strong centre back not another right back.

It feels like we are really on the edge with Mings having missed thick end of 18 months being asked to play every minute of every game….massive risk

I agree.

I think the concept is sound but the execution not good. Bit like VAR.

I’m not that excited by Foyth. Just feels like this is a move to cover a spot - like putting a plaster on a large cut.

It doesn’t excite me as much as Badé did, because I feel Badé would have offered a lot more to the team.

But nevermind, whatever.

My problem with PSR/FFP is the way it deals with valuations. By tying everything to the book value of players it creates 2 major problems, selling freebies and youth products is free money and buying teams have too much power to reduce the price to complete before the deadline.

I was thinking to make it fair teams are allowed to spend what the highest team spent from the previous year .  However you are limited on number of players you can own

Once Pau is fit this guy would would just be a bench warmer, if he ever got on the pitch may be a liability more then an assett.

There are surely better ways of doing it - which factor in a more rounded version of how we want football clubs to be governed and opperate.

The current way has so many downside beyond purely limiting the ability to grow.  It forces teams to sell youth players, it forces fans to have to pay more, and you end up with players like Dendonker on the book which can be "written off" even though it would be better for everyone.

Perhaps for now, but we've seen what happens before when we're not able to step up and challenge at the top echelons of the league.
