The announcer just needed a better tone and to state ladies and gentleman please can I have your attention. As it was he just kept speaking in the same tone and I doubt most could hear he was announcing a minutes silence ok the referee’s whistle!

There were announcements made twice that it would be a minute's silence and not applause but these were made when there was hardly anyone in the ground and no later announcements were made when they needed to be.But even when there is a minute's clapping and not silence, people start clapping over the eulogy, ruining it. I know many people on here weren't fans of Doug, but that's what happened with his eulogy too, making a mockery of it.Yesterday, people clapped over the eulogy and over the scheduled silence, ruining it from my perspective. I always like to look at the intention behind an action rather than the action itself and people meant well and didn't intentionally mean to spoil anything and that is what I keep reminding myself, but it still seems like every pre-match tribute at the Villa becomes a travesty aside from Rememberance Day.(I'm also not sure that supporters of other teams appreciate renditions of HEITS during their pre-match rememberances at away grounds and to them it appears disrespectful). At least the later round of applause and Gary Shaw chants felt like they made up for it.
It was just handled really badly. If it had been done more solemnly there would have been quiet as there is in remembrance weekend. If the ref had blown his whistle as announced I think the crowd would have quietened.

A silence wasn't possible, as explained, not sure why you keep ignoring it but I can't be arsed to say it any more.

Was there a eulogy? - I've just learned that here, 2 minutes' ago.

Okay.In the Upper Holte, almost all the announcements by the PA system are intelligible. It was entirely unclear what was really going on, other than that the players were around the cntre circle and people were applauding ...
