Of course, but when we sell Bailey we'll have four or five more spaces.

We can add three more players. If we melt the whole squad down for glue, we can still only add three players.

I don't think that is true, there is an exception if more than five players leave, if so you get to add a total of four. We just can't do that because one of our outgoings is Philogene who is home grown. But hypothetically if Bailey left we'd get the headroom in the non home grown list - I think.

The exception, which a lot of us fell for, is only for teams whose season ends before Christmas. The Nordic leagues and a few others for example where they are more likely to sell and buy multiple players ready for the new season.

This is like playing with a specific deck on Balatro. I still may even use the 'minus Bailey joker'. One for the cool kids.

Yup, I think most of us who'd glanced at the rules assumed that it all looked fine to add more than three at first.

Let's just hope that the club are a bit more switched on than we were - as it REALLY looks like we've been deliberately shovelling players out the door to reach a specific number of players who were no longer in the old squad. And it REALLY looks like we've done our transfer dealings as if we intended to add four or even five new players rather than three.

I think the first time any of us thought differently was the tweet from a few days ago which specifically picked that out. And yes, I did wonder similar on the club as we have actually two down from the squad for CL, albeit one was the 2nd/3rd choice keeper and one was Philogene who couldn't have been replaced if we had only transferred out three. Especially with mentioning Bailey leaving as well.

Yes, four. Shame for Garcia, but not so bad.

Will have less of a impact for garcia as he is young and will play CL with us if not this season in next few seasons

I still think he's misunderstood it. He says:

Quote
The main crux is, clubs are only allowed to register a maximum of three new eligible players after the completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase. There are some exceptions where more new players are allowed to be registered.

The first is for teams whose domestic season start and end in the same calendar year. Dinamo Zagreb, for example, as the Croatian league starts in August and ends in December.

The other is if a club sells a large amount of players before the knockout phase. UEFA only allows four new players to be registered if more than five players in the squad for the group stage have left, and five additions if more than seven have left.

The UEFA website says:

Quote
Clubs participating in domestic championships that start and end in the same calendar year are entitled to additional player registrations in the following cases:

If more than five players on the club's List A are no longer registered with their national association as playing for the club concerned after completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, the club may register one additional player, i.e. a total of four new eligible players, for the remaining matches in the current competition.

If more than seven players on the club's List A are no longer registered with their national association as playing for the club concerned after completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, the club may register two additional players, i.e. a total of five new eligible players, for the remaining matches in the current competition.

He says it's either summer leagues OR clubs that have sold lots of players. But the rules clearly don't say that.

I think they are wrong. I can't see anything BUT the same season rule.

Quote
Article 32 Subsequent registration
32.01
After the completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registrations must be completed by 6 February 2025 (24:00 CET) at the latest.

32.02
Exceptionally and without prejudice to Paragraph 32.01, clubs participating in domestic championships that start and end in the same calendar year are entitled to additional player registrations in the following cases:

If more than five players on the club's List A are no longer registered with their national association as playing for the club concerned after completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, the club may register one additional player, i.e. a total of four new eligible players, for the remaining matches in the current competition.

If more than seven players on the club's List A are no longer registered with their national association as playing for the club concerned after completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, the club may register two additional players, i.e. a total of five new eligible players, for the remaining matches in the current competition.

Such exceptional registrations must be completed by 6 February 2025 (24:00 CET) at the latest.

32.03
Any or all of the players from the above quota may have been fielded for another club in the qualifying phase, play-offs or league phase of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Conference League.

32.04
If the registration of such new players causes the number of players on List A to exceed 25, the club must remove the necessary number of currently registered players to reduce the List A to 25 players again. The quota of locally trained players must be respected when registering new players.

So if, as rumoured, Bailey signs for Al Qaeda, we'll have space for a small zoo?
