Whilst Brugge was terrible there is a lot of over dramatics since then.  Going into this campaign 3 wins 1 defeat form at half way everyone would have been extremely happy with that. If the loss had been vs Bayern instead of Brugge would there have been all this doom and gloom?

Think its more the form and performances more than the one game tbh mate
yep 3 very poor performances in a week on the back of stupidly throwing points down the drain v Bournemouth and even before that some sub par performances (ManUre / Ipswich)

I think had we won the Bournemouth game alot of us wouldnt be as concerned as we have been. Its been pretty bad the last 6

The commentator in Bruges said he'd been speaking to Villa fans in the town and quite a few had alluded to some results papering over the cracks

I’d have gladly given up our champions league place this season, as we have very little chance of winning it, in return for us winning the league cup & FA cup.

I think we will need something in the last group game.  We are not playing well the midfield must really start scoring some goals.

Yeah but it doesn't work liked that, does it? We haven't qualified for the competition in 40 years and in that time all we won was two poxy League Cups.

ApologIes but I’m old school when it comes to cups. I remember the thrill, at school, of the 3rd round FA Cup draw at lunchtime, on the radio. Best event of the season!
I also try to be realistic. Other than the prize money, we have little or no chance of winning the CL and Heck has priced me out of those matches even though I’ve been through the bad times as a season ticket holder and still am. The league cup, in particular, is the easiest one to win so why not go for it? Injuries will happen whether it be in the cups, league or even in training. We rested players and now the injuries are starting to pile up again regardless.

Have a look at who has won 90% of the League and FA Cups for the past 20 years and have a re-think on why being in the Champions League is more important.

The only way I want to see a first a XI in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, is in the event we draw the Noses away.

CL is very good financially for the Club. Not so much for me personally as am watching it on TV due to the pricing structure. However, Heck needs to make the most of this competition, if we progress so, don’t be surprised if we get a big name in the next round, for GA admission prices to be £125/£150.

Cup competitions are a lottery.  I don't think you can 'prepare' for them in the same way you can with a league which is usually a lot more predictable.  There's probably some data somewhere that coaches are aware of about risk of injury and fatigue vs ultimate reward (as in wining the actual cup) that justifies their decision to field weakened teams in early rounds of cup competitions.

The CL teams still win all the bloody cups because they have such strong squads (because they are regularly in the effin CL!).

The path to winning cups regularly is to be knocking in and around Champions League places. Both cups have mostly been won by teams in that category.

2200 tickets for Leipzig, 1700 standing options. On sale from tomorrow.

£13 quid to stand, on sale from noon. Only 4 aways so take out Mostar and Alkmaar and you're potentially left with a minimum pool of 1700, as Warsaw was the next smallest allocation.

Print at home format, which is good as the queuing was woeful at Bruges.
