It seems like you can post things on this thread which when they turn out to be wrong you can claim you were only joking. So I will do that as necessary as we look to progress in this competition.

So just to be clear, you believe that cd (I assume it was him) has actually booked a hotel for the European Super Cup Final next year in a city which still hasn't been announced?

I mean, he used someone quoting Steve Bruce’s “we’ll be there or thereabouts” as an example of someone getting ahead of themselves.

I often find the people who post giddy optimism are the same ones who get angry and abusive when things don't go swimmingly. How do you live like that?

At least they have the giddy highs to go along with the doom. Living in eternal pessimism doesn’t strike me as a particularly healthy mindset. Although it does mean you’re never let down. Deep.

I agree but being realistic and celebrating actual success is more balanced I find. Also I try an never get too down if we lose, it is meant to be a distraction from life's real travails.

I don't fact check every post and tend to try and take people on face value. Calling people liars isn't a great starting mindset.

It’s a pretty famous quote that one of our managers said repeatedly over the course of 2 years. It’s also not a particularly outrageously optimistic thing to say. That was the problem.

So your hot takes are actually an antidote to people enjoying themselves?

Why not post what you think or actually feel- unless this is it, in which case I'm in awe of the depths you're plumbing. There must be Angler fish and the Bismark keeping you company.

To turn your question on yourself, re some of your revolting opinions on Hillsborough - how do you live like that?

Can people please stop enjoying themselves when Villa win?

I was thinking the same.

Liverpool have not had the implosion I thought they would have from Klopp to Slot so we will have to hope either Arsenal implode instead with their self discipline or losing Rodri for a season starts affecting Citeh on the long term. Otherwise that is the top three.

I still think we are best of the rest but that depends on managing the squad better this season which we seem to be doing. Chelsea could easily self-sabotage or if they lose Palmer for any length of time........

And Spurs will Spurs it again.

They (liverpool) have tougher games coming up now so now we will get a bettee idea of how good liverpool are.

They have a excellent squad though. They have so many attacking options its ridiculous

From BBC:
Benteke still keeps across events in Europe and is delighted at how Villa have performed in this season’s Champions League.

"A huge club," the striker calls them. "With Liverpool it is more expected but Villa was my first team in England. The love is different. They haven’t been in the Champions League for a while so to see them playing well at Villa Park on a Tuesday or Wednesday is something nice."

In the same article, Benteke named his debut goal at VP as his fave ever. I always thought he missed a trick with that one. From memory, he/someone else lobbed the Swansea goalie, and it was a simple tap-in for the Beast.

He had time though, to stop the ball on the line, bend down and do a piss-taking header with the ball on the ground, and just nudge it over the line with his noggin - that thing your Dad/bigger boys would do when you were a kid and you were being taught a footballing lesson.

I don't think I've seen this done in a professional game, so maybe it's against the laws but it would have cemented Benteke as our most cult figure since we had a Budgie in goal.

Blimey! How do you live like that?

Football is all about the massive highs and desperate lows. Otherwise what’s the point?

€3.30 a pint and drinking within sight of the pitch. Tickets to be picked up from a place called Lios. No hold backs.

Yes, from memory, I think he missed a much easier chance before that.

A question that's probably been answered before, but, assuming the PL coefficient means 5 CL places, would that still be the case if an English team wins the Europa League (and doesn't otherwise finish in the top 5)?

It's 6 in that instance. Wasn't far off last season with Atalanta.
