Sorry, I hadn't realised I needed to label posts "I DON'T REALLY MEAN THIS".

That would be most helpful, thank you!

Edit. I DON’T REALLY MEAN THIS.

Getting ahead of ourselves, just some quotes:

"I've already booked my hotel for the Super Cup.

Anyone else dreaming that we could win this?

And I’m definitely dreaming of CL glory

Would be unbelievable if we remained unbeaten in group stage.

We've basically qualified for the next round of the Champions League already having played less than half our matches

We need to qualify as quickly as possible so we can deliberately lose our last few group games to mess up England's ranking

We’ll be there or thereabouts"

Your gona look a right twat when Emi’s running around doing inappropriate things with the CL cup next May

It probably won't take as long as that.

Look, I am being intentionally pessimistic because bitter experience has conditioned me not to expect anything and to only celebrate after the fact. Reading some posts on here and it sounds like some fans are booking hotels in Munich already.

Are booking? I think you'll find 'have booked' is more accurate. Obviously we won't book the flights till we get to the semi-final, we don't want to jinx things.

Who do we fancy to win the Europa League? Hopefully one of the outsiders as we don’t want too tough a game for the Super Cup.

Wouldn’t mind Boca Juniors in the Intercontinental Cup.

Getting ahead of ourselves, just some quotes:

These can be divided up as follows:

Obvious jokes:

Quote
I've already booked my hotel for the Super Cup.
We need to qualify as quickly as possible so we can deliberately lose our last few group games to mess up England's ranking

Pretty bog-standard, giddy optimism of the sort that is inevitable when you are top of the whole ruddy Champions League after everyone has played three matches:

Quote
Anyone else dreaming that we could win this?
And I’m definitely dreaming of CL glory
Would be unbelievable if we remained unbeaten in group stage.

Maths and probability (there's a 99.7% chance that nine points is enough to finish in the Top 24, and we have nine points already):

Quote
We've basically qualified for the next round of the Champions League already having played less than half our matches

I think its a pretty dumb take to suggest it's going to be a struggle to take 5 or 6 points from 5 games when we're better than all the sides left to play. Nearly as dumb as suggesting we only finished 4th because Tottenham were shit. That's an offensively dumb take.

I think top 8 will be a struggle.

2 wins from the next 5 games will likely be enough. We have won 3 out of 3 so far.

What makes you think we will win a maximum of 1 of the next 5?

The evidence of being a supporter for the last 40 years. We barely stumbled to 5th last season because Spurs trippped up. We should beat Celtic in the last match but we have a tough home match vs Juve and then away matches.
I might ordinarily agree. But the Bayern win opened up a new path for us, and the defeat of Bologna (where we were ripe to fall flat on our faces, given our aversion last season to winning games that would put us top) confirmed it. Our ceiling is being raised before our eyes.

Maybe the banana skin is around the corner at Brugge, but I somehow doubt it. I also think that Juve, Leipzig, Monaco - all good teams - won’t much fancy playing us, what with our fully fit squad of 15 or so full internationals and assorted up and coming stars. So the odds favour our passage via the top 8, I’d say.

That was the starting point of my post, which was basically assessing the likelihood of drawing, say, Bayern in the round of 16. Which would be unfortunate.

Lastly, have you thought of changing your username? :D

On a random sort of related tangent... I'm going to watch Feyenoord Vs AZ Alkmaar on the 2nd at De Kuip. Can anyone tell me which end Peter Withe scored at?

The stadium has been rotated I think, could be wrong.
The stadium had a roof added in the 90s but other than that hasn't changed. I'll ask the Feyenoord subReddit, they be able to figure it out.

It would be my pleasure, by your logic the above posters would equally look twats if he doesn't.

I often find the people who post giddy optimism are the same ones who get angry and abusive when things don't go swimmingly. How do you live like that?

It seems like you can post things on this thread which when they turn out to be wrong you can claim you were only joking. So I will do that as necessary as we look to progress in this competition.

So just to be clear, you believe that cd (I assume it was him) has actually booked a hotel for the European Super Cup Final next year in a city which still hasn't been announced?

At least they have the giddy highs to go along with the doom. Living in eternal pessimism doesn’t strike me as a particularly healthy mindset. Although it does mean you’re never let down. Deep.
