Just had an email thanking me for spending £178. Fucking hell.

I just got one for £158. Thing is, I unchecked the Champions League scheme box when I renewed as I didn't like the sound of "non-refundable".

I hope this isn't another gaff from the club and everyone's been charged.

The real fallout of all of this is going to come over the next 3 or 4 months.  Like others, we have waited long enough to see Villa at the top table so are going to do all we can to go to those games - we'll be knocking a load of others on the head though to pay for it.  If others are in the same boat then good luck to Heck in getting day trippers through the door for Southampton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Ipswich et al - the best Villa team in years is going to be playing those games in front of sub 36k crowds I reckon, and with his pisstaking GA+ seats all but empty.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that won't happen.

They'll be 40,000+ at each of those games. How well his hospitality does is another matter.

I'm a claret member, and much prefer to attend those types of games, and intend to do so, as (a) I find the atmosphere and everything else just better than the games against the Category A teams (b) they are less expensive to attend (c) those games tend to be played at 3pm on a Saturday and (d) in all probability I can watch a game against the 'big 6' live on TV.

Just had an email mines £79 for the Lower Holte.  There’s no link to a ticket so I assume that will come through separately unless they put on the season ticket we already have.

I've got an email thanking me for my seventy quid but they haven't actually taken anything. Hopefully this means I've got a free ticket. Can't complain about those ticket prices...

Have you checked you've still got both of your kidneys? Any scars appeared overnight?

Head over to the NSWE thread and we can add it to the list of bodily parts we may or may not need.

I definitely won't be going: I just can't afford anything like that at the moment.

The sole crumb of comfort is that some piggybacking day-tripper will suffer my freshly squeezed seating/standing area (from the recent renovations on the lower holte) and feel thoroughly fleeced from parting with £90+!

The dulcet tones of Daz Hale & Thommo await...

I used to prefer coming over (from Ireland) or up (from London) for the type of games you're talking about, mainly cos we might fcuking actually win them or score a goal or two. Now, because we're actually good, taking-on the top teams is more attractive and the win is all the sweeter and the expense easier to forget.

I went to the Arsenal game at VP last season and as I only get to go sporadically, for the first time noticed the big jump in match-day tickets*. Had a "scout's eye" view from the top of the Trinity just below the rafters and pigeon droppings. Think it was £67 or thereabouts. Was it worth it? Well, we fashioned a glorious move from back to front complete with a swivel and fine finish from our Scottish Iniesta, enough to win the day, so yeah, it was.

The only way I could justify the Champs League tickets (if I could even get one), was if we win. Or a last-gasp draw that feels like a win. Touching a hundred quid is a night-out at a West-End show in a half-decent seat for a five-star show. Us getting our arses handed to us wouldn't really cut it.

*The best deal on a ticket I got was an August game versus Everton - the traditional win at home against them at time of year, just after O'Neill's departure, we won 1-0 with a Luke Young goal. The Villa were doing tickets a tenner and the flight from Dublin was probably twenty quid return.

Well that makes the football seem like bloody good value!

Which obviously, for anyone thinking I'm defending the prices, it is not.

You can still get tickets for Andre Rieu at Wembley Arena for £133. Better hurry though, it's almost sold out.

I also had the email, but it doesn’t say what they’ve taken the money for.

Yes, I know it’ll be for the first Champions League game, but there’s no mention of the charge being for a ticket, let along for which match.

Apparently some season ticket holders are being moved seats for the Bayern game too...
