Not sure they need to worry about Champions League for a little while yet.

Some teams manage it in five years you know

I think Dave was hinting that this is the Champions league thread, I think you want Other Games next door.

I'm trying to work out how many wins/points we would need to get to top 8...4 or 5 maybe?

How does the draw work?
4 into 9 doesn’t work.

36 teams. Everybody plays 8 games, four home and four away, against 8 different teams.

I really like this format. The fact that unlike before you end up giving a toss about all of it, not just the three other teams that you're sharing a bunker with.

So that game between Monaco and Inter or Benfica and Bologna, although we might not play against any of them they actually make a difference to us now rather than them just being a dead rubber in a completely different group.

Yes it's to create more games and make more money, but I think it'll also increase overall interest in the games.

Oh no, are we going to have to be rooting for random European teams alongside the other Premier League teams on a weekly basis now too!? I don't think I can handle the stress.

Fag packet maths.

Last season first place points.
16, 13, 18, 12, 14, 11, 18, 12=average of 14.

Second place points.
8, 9, 10, 12, 10, 8, 12, 12 = average of 10.

Add 3 to each to take into account the two extra games and it might give an idea for what gets you in the top 8 and then in the home second leg for the playoffs.

Of course this doesn't take into account that the top teams will also be playing top teams straight away so teams like Real or Citeh might not win all their games like they did this season.

Wouldn’t surprise me if you needed 18-20 points to finish top 8. Probably need 8-10 points minimum for top 24.

Congratulations to you from this Fulham supporter, hope you remember our contribution to you getting there, beating Man Utd and Spurs so they couldn’t catch you, only joking you’re done brilliantly under Emery, I think you’re do really well in Europe, maybe not win it definitely quarter final at least. Emery has a good record in European  tournaments it also good to see  a new club in the champions league, instead of the same old teams

More importantly, smashing the shit out of Gerrard enough to get the carpet headed fuck-nugget sacked...

I will be forever grateful for that.
Even more importantly, beating us in the play off final.
A real sliding doors moment.
Oh lordy, Fulham really have been our fairy godmother over the past few years!

Hope you’re keeping well, Franky. Lovely to see you post here, as always chap :)

It's stupid how elated I still am, but I realised why at least: much as I want us to win the quadruple every year, the great thing about qualifying for the CL is it shows you can do it, and it takes the pressure off a bit. I'm sure Newcastle are worrying a lot less about their status as a club right now than they were two years ago, and Spurs actively didn't care about qualifying because they know that, once you're in once, people (including players and coaches) look at you as a club that can do it.

Obviously, finishing 7th next year would feel like a let down after this. But I just don't think it would feel like the same sort of let down. Our foot is in the door now, and it'll take some time to dislodge it you feel.

Thank you Franky. We are also grateful for you beating us at Wembley and saving us from administration. That night when you beat us 3-0 and Gerrard was sacked was our turning point. Good luck for the future -until we play you!
