I thought we were rubbish. We looked knackered, we just didn't get going at all and well, that's more or less it really apart from getting beaten by a very dodgy penalty. As always  typically Villa, we didn't take advantage of Spuds losing. Still fucking chuffed with them all overall though.
We have taken advantage of Spuds losing (kind of). We are still 7 points ahead with one less game to play and the  goal difference between us went up by +1.

Yes I think it’s ok to be frustrated about an individual result/performance and still be delighted with the season overall.

Agreed

And lets not forget its not just been a one off its been three rubbish performances in a row.

If certain players are knackered then why you not making changes? We have players such as youngsters on the bench, chambers another who is rarely used. We know the latter isnt great but bring him on as a sub for 20 to give some breathers to players. Same with the kids.

Tiredness isn't really an excuse for me . These are professional athletes playing football , not humans going to war or into hard labour . They are well looked after . Top teams play lots of games , it's normal , Emery deploys a system that accommodates lots of games and less training . Today was poor , boring, insipid football. Brighton were there for the taking . Poor .

Oh here we go again. Their bodies are made of some magical material that they don’t get tired because they only run around and get paid well versus working in a factory or in the mines.

It's not necessarily tiredness in the legs alone, it's the head too.

It's not the tiredness that concerns me it was the sloppy passing

But that's because of the fatigue.

I think that is the mental tiredness playing a part.

Well then it probably is the tiredness that concerns you.

Yeah, but we haven't been a top team for about 30 years, have we? We don't have the squad or the engrained mentality that year after year of competing in Europe brings.

It's not about "well, they've not played a game for a week" either - yeah, it's easier when you're not playing so many games, but we are, it's fucking relentless for us right now.

Then on top of that, there's the cumulative load of the stress of a season like this, week after week for nine months.

Your argument sounds a little bit like the sort of argument that rich sportsmen can't be depressed because they're rich (see Collymore).

Exactly.

Douglas Luiz isn't turning in poor performances because he's suddenly shit or badly trained. He's fucked.

Absolutely. They are both physically and mentally tired. And few also speak about the training intensity that Emery puts himself, his coaches and players through. It all adds up. We and they are appreciating how far it has brought us, but I’m sure the players cannot wait to get to the end of the season to have break.

Bailey is the epitome of where we currently are fitness wise.

No one can honestly be watching him last few weeks and think he's at peak fitness. It's more like he's carrying a significant injury (the bandage gives a clue) and he's just trying to get through games with a burst in each half here and there.

Clue is in how many touches he's taking to get away from players compared to the first half of the season.

I think if we were just mid table and out of all the cups he'd have had an op or just been rested for the season but he clearly wants to help get us over the line as one of the standout players.

One big last push now required against Olympiakos. Everything is on Thursday for me. We need a trophy.
