Unai is happy that four of the players we brought in have been sold or loaned back out? Leaving us with, in reality, three players who have strengthened the squad in Onana, Barkley and Maatsen, I don’t include Jaden as he went travelling for a year and came back.  I think he might secretly be a tad disappointed.

I'd say it's 2 players brought in, as I wouldn't count Onana either.

That's a stretch mate, Barkley shouldn't be included either as he's played for us before.

Maatsen doesn’t count as we already had two left-backs.

So unai says that ollie came back with a "small injury" thats a bit of a worry as he has been shit the last two games could he be carrying a injury? Only have duran as backup of ollie picks up a injury..

We knew that though. It’s why he didn’t play in Germany. I suspect it’s just a case of basically having zero pre season whereas most have had  several weeks

Thats first ive heard of the injury tbh mate. All i heard on hwre was he his fitness because he had no pre season

Emery said last week he came back injured from something he had picked up either during or just before the Euros. Minor knee injury that needed rest.

As it stands the squad has more depth but the first XI is slightly weaker. Raised the floor but lowered the ceiling if you like.

I'd have liked another signing that would have improved the first XI though. Whatever position that might have been in. And I still don't like the Luiz deal. The more time that passes the worse it looks.

Weirdly, the longer time goes, the better it could look. The 2 lads play well at decent clubs, they could easily be £20m plus sales next summer, and Doug looks good. We've gambled to hit PSR.

Some of the deals under Purslow's watch were pretty bad
Carlos for £30M
Coutinho however much we wasted on him .

No wonder he got his P45

did you complain about either signing when they happened?

I seem to recall the general feeling was what brilliant negotiators we were for reducing the fee from 33m to 17m. Don't remember many complaints.

There was complaints about the length of the contract though tbf
Should have kept it as a loan til the summer then assessed, instead Purslow behaved like an excited puppy at Christmas.

Definitely discussed on here as he mentioned it himself in an interview on VillaTV. Pretty sure some handsome devil must have posted about it...  8)

If you say Onana in place of Luiz (albeit I see them in different roles), Philogene in place of Diably and Maaesten in place of Moreno, then really the only strengthening of the squad in terms of depth is Barkley, Ned and players (hopefully) returning from injury.

*ahem*

Interview with him now on VillaTV.

It seems he picked up an injury towards the end of the season chasing that 20th goal. It’s lasted through the euros and was the reason he didn’t play the final friendly.

Yeah PSR screwed us over and Juve knew they had us over a barrel which is why we couldn't even get our first choice off them (Soule wasn't it?) I've seen clubs panic buying before but we had to panic sell before the deadline. Fingers crossed it works out.

And if Bogarde can continue his impressive performances from preseason into competetive games we have one there.
