Don't think anyone is coming so we have to hope for the best.

And if there's one thing you're good at...

Some of the deals under Purslow's watch were pretty bad in hindsight and are clearly still having a painful effect in terms of wages and stickability of players.

If things are so tight though this year, I'd have preferred they prioritised signings to improve us this season rather than what might happen further down the line.

There's always going to be bad transfers, there were plenty of good ones as well. The majority of the key players that got us top 4 were signed before Unai and Monchi.

Hard to believe no one is after Zaha. Lyon are set to pay no loan fee and take on the 130k/wk.

Quote
Zaha is unlikely to return to English football this season due to UK tax rules for those who have left the UK to work abroad for five or fewer years. A loan move to England at this stage would make Zaha liable to pay income tax in both the UK and Turkey

So teams might be after him, but Zaha probably isn't really to hand over a few million pounds to HMRC to make it work.

I believe this was part of the reason Henderson went to the Netherlands and not back into the U.K, well, I read something along these lines at the time.

Vidagany nailed it before transfer deadline day as Monchi executes perfectly

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/damian-vidagany-nailed-before-transfer-29837719#ICID=Android_BMNewsApp_AppShare

Here's a pretty good explanation by John Thornley off what we've done and not done in the transfer window.

It should quieten down the discord, but I doubt that it will.

That makes absolute sense - like Newcastle last year we are being penalised for crashing the cartel…rules again doing exactly what they are intended to do, so protect the cartel

Doesn’t mean I’m not clinging to the hope that if Donk gets loaned to Anderlecht coupled with Moreno going to Forest will create the ability to loan one in

Take your tin hat off. That really isn’t their intention. Are they poorly constructed, yes. Is it some conspiracy theory that the other 14 teams have been duped into approving, obviously not.

Watkins, Martinez, Bailey, Luiz, Konsa, Digne, Cash, Kamara.

Coutinho was a crap siging, Carlos it's hard to know how much the injury has taken out on him as we hardly saw him before it.

They are similar signings to the type of signing Sterling would be now.

Old and expensive, with little resale value, on bonkers wages.

Coutinho when he signed, was almost universally welcomed. That it turned out the way it did was in large part down to injuries and his mate who managed us at the time. At the start he was on fire and developed a super relationship with JJ. As for Diego, he was a highly thought of CB from Sevilla with bags of top level experience and credibility. That injury fucked him over completely.

all the top clubs make them. Look at some of the salaries handed out at Man U, Chelsea etc. We needed to take the next step to opertaing nearer the top of the table. It's only hindsight that they are viewed as they are.

I seem to recall the general feeling was what brilliant negotiators we were for reducing the fee from 33m to 17m. Don't remember many complaints.

Precisely. 17m was seen as a brilliant deal by Purslow and for the club. Of course we also bailed out broke Barca in the process so absorbed the wages, but the signing itself was very well received.

They do, and can get away with it as under the current regs their massive income streams enable this.

A couple of crap signings doesn't hold them back, for us it clearly is hindering us in what we are trying to do.
