Di Ligt has disappointed at Juve and Bayern and has been shown to be pretty damned slow. Not sure he's that much of an upgrade on Maguire. Ugarte is a very decent player. Zirkzee, time will tell but he looks a player. But for all that, they still have Ten Haag, who's not exactly a dynamic manager.

It’s time they shipped out the 10 hag and went and got Southgate he’s waiting in the wings, he’s all there for the taking
Or he’ll end up at everton

He’d be bonkers to take that job

Yeah but man for man, if we get a right of good calibre in, plus a creative forward, I would say we're just as good 1-11. Would you swap either of our centre halves for theirs, probably not, Maatsen I think will be top drawer and Digne is pretty good. Onana and Tielemans would see game time there, Rogers walks in to most teams on current form, Bailey would be in and out for them and Watkins would start every game. We forget how decent an 11 we have.

I agree IF we get them in. I just dont see any attacking players coming in. I think in that scenerio i find it utterly bizarre we haven't replaced diaby.

Despite his bad form towards the end of season we need a replacement - if bailey gets injured we could be in deep trouble.

If that takes off I'll eat my own foreskin.

But we could do the dance and everything. :(

The problem for Man Utd and Chelsea and ourselves is that when you have good players for most positions it’s hard to sign players to improve you. All the variables about whether a player fits in to the league, right combination of egos and personalities can make formerly great players average.

Man U for example, McGuire cost a lot of money and played a lot of games at the top of the premier league because he’s quite good. Overpaid because proven players  at premier league cost a lot. Turns out he’s not good enough to improve on the top 6 kind of level they’re at. They signed Varane to improve their defence. Lot of money again, lot of pedigree, peak age. Turned out he was worse. Two players whose value has plummeted, presumably cost a lid in wages as well as fees and didn’t improve them at all.

And once the players who have been dropped are big name big reputation players on big money you have problems.

That’s the point i was trying to make.  The Man U and Chelsea first team might be great on paper but the players on the outside will become like parasites.  Furthermore, a coaches’ time is finite.  The changing rooms cannot be made bigger.  Everything will become stretched unless they can get the outsiders off the wage bill.

The mess Chelsea have got themselves intois illustrated by the fact that added together the years remaining on the  contracts of their squad  is 191 years.

Spreads out amortisation for PSR, but makes moving players out a bit tricky.

The rest of the Premier League all have players on deals that add up to a cumulative number of years between Everton’s 47 and Tottenham Hotspur’s 97, for an average of around 71.5 years.

Won't be able to play a high line with De Ligt, same problem as Maguire. Better than Varane I guess who was a flake really. Sterling is another odd one, sure he's probably better than Sancho or Antony but they have been spectacularly mugged off by signing players over the hill like Casemiro, Alexis Sanchez and many more. EtH won't make Xmas there.

Trouble is they, and Chelsea, as rediculous as it looks, can afford to keep making the mistakes due to their huge turnover, gained through pulling huge popularity at a time when owners could underwrite and just buy who they liked for success. Those clubs got themselves work renowned. For us and Newcastle, we have to find a way to break that £4-500m income bracket without tweaking the product on the pitch.

Also, you can't play the high line with forwards who don't press. They've already got Fernandes as their star who doesn't press, Rashford basically doesn't press, Hojlund's willing but hardly fast enough to do it all on his own, and now they want to add Sterling, who has many qualities but, well.

Ugarte is a good signing, the rest I don't care about, but they are improving their squad and will be targeting our place from last season.
I can't loan out Barra, Unai was praising him highly last week, but then he didn't make the squad.  I hope we get the Dutch lad over the line, as i think Ned needs more time.  I think we'll be done then unless Duran goes.

I think that will be only signing too. I think not replacing diaby is going to be a big mistake

I don't disagree!  Duran to Chelsea back in the gossip column again today, if he does go (and I'm ambivalent, I thought his leading of the line on Saturday was poor when he came on) I hope it's not too late that we can do something in the market still.
