Hmm.  Sterling.  Not sure on that one.  Feels a bit Coutinho-ish.

The very obvious difference- and people forget but Coutinho actually did pretty well on loan - is that if we were to loan Sterling it wouldn’t be because the manager has an existing relationship with him. I suspect it’d be properly thought through.

The Times and others reporting we're in talks with Chelsea over Sterling....even though it was reported yesterday we said thanks but no thanks.
Reported in the Graun also, but by Jacob Steinberg who often has the ear of an insider at Chelsea. Oddly, it comes with a rider to the effect that the Duran talks "could resume" if things go well with Sterling - as though we were being baited.

In conclusion, it's a Chelsea plant in my view.

Fingers crossed!

Not sure if ita real but according to FR no approach for sterling

If you're going from a Twitter account, you got the wrong one. He's said nothing there about us and Sterling.

One thing I have learned is that I want Dybala now, as he's turned down £75m a year to go to Saudi Arabia as he wants to stay in Europe. Good man.

Lots of reasonably credible sources reported we’re in talks with Sterling. Ive nothing against him and think he’s been a good player, but doesn’t feel right for us, a player on the way down perhaps. I want that Althetico Madrid forward we’re linked with, even though I’ve never seen him play.

What would be the point in that? I think that's a terrible suggestion.

Just because a player plays in roughly the same position and has a similar age to a previous signing doesn't mean things would work out the same. Micah Richards was not the same as Paul McGrath. Best to judge players on their own merit.

I mentioned Sterling a week or so ago and it understandably got a mixed rection. His wages puts me off a little but he's a very good player. I think he can play both flanks can't he?

I trust Unai, but he clearly wanted Felix.  Sterling might feel like too much like a wooden spoon signing.  He has been a great player over the years in the Premier League, so who knows, but is he the signing that could turn us into genuine top 4 favourites?  I think he'd be more of a squad player, which is mad considering where we were / he was a couple of seasons ago.

Why is that a "terrible" suggestion ?

Another weird turn of events, is that I'd be disappointed if us signing Sterling meant Duran leaving to go to Chelsea.  I wouldn't have said that a fortnight ago.

Interesting. Unusual for these types to disagree on something like this. Guess we'll see.

On Sterling, there's clearly a very good player in there, though I do slightly struggle to picture what he does best beyond some useful tap-ins. It's also true he's been unfairly (and we know why) targeted by much of the press as being 'mercenary', when he's played for three clubs in his life.

That said, Rashford gets unfairly targeted and I wouldn't want him either, for purely football reasons. And to be honest that 'camp statement' was one of the worst things I've ever seen in football, I wanted to chew my own arm off reading it.

And, more fundamentally, I think Morgan Rogers is the absolute tits, and it should take something really, really special to dislodge him from first choice in the second striker position. Felix might have been that; I just don't think Sterling would be.
