I guess if it's him or no one then he's better than not signing any replacement for Diaby

He might be past his prime but his record suggests he's hardly shit.
This 100%. Chelsea have been a basket case for the last few years and have had how many managers? I would constructively criticise Sterling over the years but to say he is shite is ridiculous and totally unfounded on any stats you care to quote.
To be fair i just looked at his stats last year it was alot bettee than i thought it was 8 goals and 4 assists in the league

But i watched a lot of chelsea and he was pretty bad a lot of the season. He should never ever be on set pieces thats for sure

8 and 4 isn't great though even in that mess of a club.

Ive been critical of sterling but even i have to accept those are not bad stats playing for a busket club like chelsea

The other side of 'doing Chelsea a favour' is that they've hoarded absolutely tons of surplus talent we could perhaps get for cheaper than we would in any other circumstances.

Sterling on loan.

Paying 0% of his wages.

Behind Ramsey and Bailey in the picking order

Might be a good bench warmer.

His ego won’t want that.

The only way I’d even consider it, that’s at a push

We've also just arrived here at this level after a very long time. Sides like Chelsea are still able to attract players that would absolutely get into our side despite the complete mess they are in. I'm not putting Sterling in that spot, but he's hardly picking up a bench player from Palace or Everton. I would hope if we brought him it's to have him compete vs any guarantees to start games. He has to learn the Emery system. But he's got bags of international and top level European competition which helps us.

I think people buy into the narrative of Sterling rather than actually look at what he’s done. His statement was silly, but I think he generally has his head screwed on. His got loads of quality, and has delivered to a really high level. If Unai wants him, I’d back him to be very good.

Perhaps they've just 'opened talks' to say "We've got a vacancy for a decent chip chef in the Lower Grounds™

He's only 5' 8" so we could call his food kiosk 'Little Chef'. It might prove popular.

I think that he would be seen as a replacement for Diaby in that he would cover the wide right and 'number 10' positions.  If the finances make sense and he feels he's got a point to prove then I don't think it would be the worst move to be honest.

Sterling possibly not being on the “500 list” doesn’t mean that he is an afterthought to our recruitment team because he is now available.

Perhaps they thought he was not in any way achievable as a signing so wasn’t on the list?

Not sure Sterling would have been on my list, but it could definitely work. He flourished for Abu Dhabi under a manager not unlike ours, after all.

He strikes me as a confidence player, and if anyone can get his mojo going, it'll be Emery and his team.
