Can you name me another player who has scored two goals from direct corners in one season in the last 12 months?

Thats remarkable he was even able to achieve it

Haha! So now what you're saying is you want us to find a replacement who will score twice direct from a corner?

And where did you make that observation from my post 😂

Steve Staunton did it at home to Palace.

I was there, my first home game after graduating. Missed the Southampton game as was on holiday. Shite to the start to the season then Big Ron got the walk around the rose garden.

Looking at the BBC sport headlines, they show the headlines on the back pages of the Daily newspapers - the Daily Mail headline is "why clouds are gathering at Villa"

The article is behind a pay wall - may be an interesting read, if anyone can access the story.

Try this:

https://www.removepaywall.com/https:/www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13735785/Premier-League-Aston-Villa-Sir-Alex-Ferguson.html
typical OTT crap in the week preceding the season-start.

I don’t think it’s over the top at all. I think it’s really balanced outside of the headline.
Agreed. It's not the typical sensationalist stuff you might expect from them. Also, it's not necessarily aimed at Villa fans who will know most of that stuff, more for other fans on the outside looking in.

What did you listen to on your walkman/discman on the way to the ground? Not Shed Seven I hope.

Harry Burrows did it against Leyton Orient in Orient's one and only appearance in the first division IIRC circa 1962/63.  I was there.

Nah, 1-1. There's never been a 2-2 home draw with them that I can recall. Their equaliser was from some bloke called Southgate, no idea what happened to him.

I'd just learned to drive and it was the first time I'd driven on the motorway by myself. I went with my then girlfriend, so think it would have probably been The Frank and Walters for me, and Take That for her. Cassette, obviously.

I was going to to go into detail, but can't be arsed.

We've sold 2 players with nearly 40 goals and assists between them last season, I can't see that amount coming from the current crop of new signings, including a returning Buendia.

Concede less and we can reduce that number anyway. With JJ coming back in, Rogers with a full season and hopefully a few more from set pieces I think it's conceivable that we could cover that amount.

Edit - between them Dougie and diaby contributed 27 goals and assists, nowhere near 40

Are you talking about league only?

Katie McCabe scored for Ireland direct from a corner at the World Cup last summer. Think it was the only goal we scored. Not sure I'd take her over Luiz though.

DL got ten goals and ten assists. Diaby got ten goals and nine assists.

So nearly forty seems reasonable to me.

I’m not sure I understand this argument about replacing goals scored last season by departing players. Everybody starts on zero. Luiz doesn’t come with 10 goals and 10 assists in the bank for 2024/25. Diaby wouldn’t start on 10 goals either. He would have to do it all again. It’s way too simplistic

Quite.

If Luiz and Diaby hadn't been here, someone else would have scored the goals.

Sell Watkins for big money and play Duran or Archer. If Watkins isn't here someone else will score the goals.

Sell Emi as well. Someone else will save the shots.

I'm not worried about replacing Diaby. He was ok but nothing special and I reckon Ramsey, Philogene and Rogers can each get similar numbers this year.

Doug is more complex because we've lost his creativity but we've replaced it with the physicality of Onana then added Barkley and Baron to give us decent depth in there. I don't know what impact that will have but in the long term I don't see many teams bullying us with Kamara and Onana in there and Baron to swap in if we need more.
