I don't think we will sign anyone else as I cannot see either Carlos or Duran leaving.

I think us leaving carlos out for friendlies suggests he could be gone.  Hopefully so as the dutch fella we been linked with is a step up

It’s very difficult to judge the new players and their ability, fingers crossed our team responsible for player recruitment have made the right decisions for further Ist team development.

We've sold 2 players with nearly 40 goals and assists between them last season, I can't see that amount coming from the current crop of new signings, including a returning Buendia.
If we manage to shore up the defense we may not need so many.

Until we see how the new centre of midfield performs in the PL we won’t know how much we will miss Dougie (August to February version) and his goals / assists.  I am hopeful that the size of Onana will certainly help us reduce the goals conceded at set pieces but until we see Onana & Teilemans in proper games we won’t know how good they are…if they come to the party and we integrate Kamara around Christmas time we could be onto a winner…a lot depends on whether Teilemans is up to the task of running midfield.

Still 100% big, dominant & quick centre half as priority for me - don’t ask for a lot do I

Interesting that we have 7 players aged 30 or over, (8 including McGinn who is 30 in October), Olsen-34, Martinez, Mings, Carlos, Moreno, Digne all 31, Barkley-30. Compared to Chelsea who have just 2 players in their 30's GK Bettenelli-32, and Lukaku-31.
Average age of our squad = 25.9, 7th highest, average age of Chelsea = 23.1 the lowest in the PL.
I can't see us signing any more older players with no sell on value, unless they are relatively cheap (Ross Barkley).  Almost all of our signings so far this summer have been 23 or under, Iling Jr - 20, Maatsen, Philogene, Archer, Onana, all 22, Barrenenchea-23 add in the January signings, Nedeljkovic-18, Sousa-19, Rogers-22, Gauci-24, you can definitely see a pattern emerging.
I think we are following the Chelsea model of buying young and academy players with a view to them being a saleable asset in the future (Cotcher) and Villa becoming more self sustaining as a club, just hope that we are better at doing it than Chelsea.

Concede less and we can reduce that number anyway. With JJ coming back in, Rogers with a full season and hopefully a few more from set pieces I think it's conceivable that we could cover that amount.

Edit - between them Dougie and diaby contributed 27 goals and assists, nowhere near 40

One of those variables is out of our control regarding penalties.

We conceded nearly two goals a game on average for the second half of last season. Massively reduce that and we won't need to score as many.

I would prefer to sign 2 defenders than a 10, like I said before, Felix was the cherry for me not an integral ingredient to the cake. If we could get Chalobah and Geertruida in and see Carlos and maybe Cash leave, I would be more than happy with where we are at, confident we could find a defensive unit that could do the job. At the moment, I think the defence has holes and the midfield is not as press resistant as last season when playing from the back, so can see us being leaky in the opening weeks.

Is Felix a 10? Is that not where Palmer plays for Chelsea?

Looking at the BBC sport headlines, they show the headlines on the back pages of the Daily newspapers - the Daily Mail headline is "why clouds are gathering at Villa"

The article is behind a pay wall - may be an interesting read, if anyone can access the story.

Let's face it Diaby was good in patches but nowhere near consistent enough.

A bit dramatic and a bit obvious. I doubt we're done yet and think we have 2 more "big" money signings to come.

Yeah I think we've only baked the cake so far and are yet to decorate it.
