Depends what you want from the full back though in the system you play

If you want full back that’s really good defensively one on ones, blocking, heading, keeping a position then Konsa  is your man

If you’re looking for a full back to go over the halfway line, to attack the opposition to get Crosses in to have a bit of technical ability with the ball and to make those through balls to midfield rather than nine times out of 10 knock it sideways or back to the goalkeeper, Konsa is not your man

For either of those roles Cash is not your man either.

Fair enough but i was discussing Konsa

Konsa needs to play in the middle , he simply isn't a RB. Mings cannot come back soon enough .

He played brilliantly there for England against Vini Jr and Doku, and numerous times for Villa last season.

He’s got a great partnership with Mings, that’s evident. As is the fact that without Mings, our best defence is Konsa/Carlos/Pau with an attacking left-back.

Carlos is average verging on rubbish and needs moving on (yes but Haaland/Arsenal). Konsa terrible at right back, it's where the ball goes to die when he plays there. Carlos/Torres as a partnership, milk can turn quicker. We need a fully fit Mings back, proper competition at centre back.

As you can see, I was talking about in the absence of Mings. Which is what we were last season.

And to paraphrase your oft-used catchphrase on the subject, it’s usually where the ball goes to die for the team that’s attacking down that side when Konsa plays there.

Thankfully, we have a bloke who knows this picking the team.

Konsa, when selected RB, got moved out of it plenty of times last season.

And then selected there again over and over, especially against the top teams. What a football illiterate our manager must be.

All managers have their blind spots. MON used have Cuellar and Mellberg RB regularly, they were better at defending set pieces than Konsa though. Ferguson played O'Shea/Brown regularly at RB too, rubbish on the ball but strong defenders.

I'm also not a fan of moving our best CB to RB weakening our whole defensive line as a result, our high line became a liability without Konsa in the middle. None of the above were as good at CB as Konsa is either.  I thought the form of Konsa and Torres particularly suffered badly near the end of last season with all the messing around at the back.

The Brighton away game (0-1) is one that sticks in my mind and reminds me why Konsa should only play RB as a very last resort .

Harsh using the Brighton away game. The team were on their knees that day. Olsen had a blinder to keep the score respectable.

Those last couple of away perfs at Brighton and Palace were shockingly bad but the players were all buggered.

If we can get back to matter in hand on transfers then Sergi Roberto , Kalvin Phillips as well as João Felix are up for transfer discussion as current rumours of them all being signed.

Rather than how good or bad is a current player is I’d fix it by looking at who we can buy. if a world class CB is available then buy him and keep matty cash

I don’t think we can afford to fix both positions and Konsa provides good insurance.

Playing at RB and Konsa scored against Wulfs - a bit fluky but still a goal

Cash scored a few - most memorably away at Burnley.

It is clear that SUE like to have a very high playing LB with the defence shifting over when they go forward - we do not have the squad to attack on both flanks with backs.

We have just bought a really dynamic LB so it is clear how we want to set up and we will also see the likes of Onana  / other #6 drop into RB when the defence move over to cover Maatson when he goes forward.

Kamara did this effortlessly for half a season

Jesus!

Yes guys how dare you discuss anything else other than a click bait rumor, an assumption we want sergi because he's on a free and Felix who we've done nothing but discuss for a week just to keep footy happy.

Also how dare you delete the Douglas Luis thread after all he did for us.

In discussing transfers and linking the right back discussion.
Rumour Sergio Roberto may be signing on a free he can play right back.

'Aston Villa are ‘best positioned’ to sign Sergi Roberto on a free-
he  has won the Champions League on two occasions.
According to Catalunya Radio in Spain, Villa are one of the clubs ‘best positioned’ to sign Sergio Roberto along with West Ham and Dutch side Ajax'

There are specific threads on Konsa and Cash I don't know why they aren't used to talk about their roles and positioning and then this thread is left to discuss the transfer speculation
And regards Douglas Luiz yes I was away on vacation and then next thing there's no where to discuss him.
Yet threads like Callum Chambers who didn't make same impact on me or Aston Villa are still available.
I will be away again soon  before season start but just wanted some clarity because then it's easy for all to follow for purpose of discussing that's all.

I won't be alone in wanting to read transfer topics on a transfer thread. I was just offering a solution so everyone can be happy.

I think we will definitely be on the lookout for a really good centre back. But I won't be surprised if we don't strengthen there, too.

There's no point getting someone in unless they are better than the options we have, and Emery has said before that he doesn't mind conceding goals if we are winning. The hope will be that the recruitment will better protect the defence and also make us even more of a threat.

So unless someone considerably better becomes available at a suitable price, I don't think they'll be desperate yet to sign someone.

Because this is a thread where we discuss signings and the discussion is based on do we need to replace either of those players.
It's not rocket science.

We are not talking about them out of context we are discussing buying a right back and moving konsa back to centre back OR buying a centre back and converting Konsa to a right back on a regular basis.
