Just imagine if we decide to give him a bit of love. Pulis will be furious as will Dim Tim.

Konsa needs to play in the middle , he simply isn't a RB. Mings cannot come back soon enough .

He played brilliantly there for England against Vini Jr and Doku, and numerous times for Villa last season.

He’s got a great partnership with Mings, that’s evident. As is the fact that without Mings, our best defence is Konsa/Carlos/Pau with an attacking left-back.

Carlos is average verging on rubbish and needs moving on (yes but Haaland/Arsenal). Konsa terrible at right back, it's where the ball goes to die when he plays there. Carlos/Torres as a partnership, milk can turn quicker. We need a fully fit Mings back, proper competition at centre back.

I don’t always agree with brontebilly, but I think he is spot on here.

Konsa clearly isn't rubbish at right back, he's just a defensive option that makes it easier for us to switch to a back 3 when we have the ball.

is how I see it. However, Carlos doesn't cut it and we need more quality when we pick a 'standard' right back.

Yep, that's exactly the problem, Carlos just hasn't been the player we were hoping for and needs to be replaced with someone much more dominant in the air.

As you can see, I was talking about in the absence of Mings. Which is what we were last season.

And to paraphrase your oft-used catchphrase on the subject, it’s usually where the ball goes to die for the team that’s attacking down that side when Konsa plays there.

Thankfully, we have a bloke who knows this picking the team.

Konsa, when selected RB, got moved out of it plenty of times last season.

And then selected there again over and over, especially against the top teams. What a football illiterate our manager must be.

Exactly this, centre back is priority number one for me, we shipped too many goals, I know signing players the physicality of Onana should help at set pieces in particular but we need a big, dominant centre half…too risky to rely on Mings being that player although will be brilliant to have him back.  Carlos did much better than expected last season but still feels like a mistake waiting to happen (as did Lenglet when we had him), Pau I think is great on the ball but is neither physical or quick and Konsa looks more likely to play on right.  Where we find this mythical centre back who is Premier League ready is a different question :-)

Well Dean Huijsen is joining Bournemouth. ITK Romano had Villa and the cherries linked to the 6'5 19 year old who was born in the Netherlands, and is a youth international for Spain.
So the search goes on!

I’m all in favour of buying a better CB than Carlos, but the fact remains that the combination of him and Pau, with Konsa at right back, was more successful in stopping teams scoring against us than Konsa and Pau, with Cash at right back.

Haven't we been linked with David Hancko, the Feyenoord and Slovenia centre half? I've just read Atletico Madrid have put an "insulting" offer in for him.

Until Onana confirmed he was to play the CDM role, I had wondered if he was to be deployed as an actual centre back.Perhaps we'll see him drop in there at times alongside the two actual central defenders.

I do feel Onana is specifically here to help the defensive side of the team and reduce the impact of counters, transitions, and turnovers.

I really see him as a Rodri role who will be impactful moving forward as well as defending in time to come,  I suspect Onana will be offering solidarity.
That's got to be the idea for signing him, I would think?

The problem as I see it, is Cash being the only alternative to Konsa at RB.

"One of the great broken toys of the last decade"... I love these forrin turns of phrases when translated into English. The imagery, the passion, the drama. Oh Felix, take me now...
