Why would a normal Muslim family feel less happy in Birmingham than in an incredibly restrictive desert dystopia? I know it's meant well, but to my mind it's a bit like saying Christians should move to Utah - it's better to be somewhere you can practice your own vision of the faith, no?

I'm loathe to given credence to Tim's latest theories - but a few of the players who moved last summer did say that moving to a Muslim country was part of their reason for going. I think Benzema was definitely one of them.

And I've heard many of them actually find it miserable, because life there turns out to be rather different from going for tea with your mates in Cairo, say.

No doubt. But it doesn't mean that the idea of it couldn't be appealing.
It’s become a bit of a Mecca.

Any player who says that is talking bollocks. European countries are much more Muslim than Saudi fucking Arabia. Much more freedom to practice your faith as you want to.
That has to be the stupidest thing i've ever read. Try looking up Mecca . Then Medina.

I think the discussion might assume a higher threshold of knowledge than 'where is Mecca', Tim.

I mean, if you're an expert in anything, it's probably stupidity. Sorry, aftab.

Wow

🚨🟣🔵 Jaden Philogene returns to Aston Villa after the club activated matching rights earlier this week!

Deal worth £13m as Villa had 30% sell-on clause included in agreement with Hull City.

Philogene signs five year deal, Emery wanted him back — medical and formal steps soon.
