Supposedly if Newcastle, had not sold a few players this weekend, they were going to have a possible 10 point deduction at the start of this season.

I still don't understand how Chelsea can keep buying so many players and yet be compliant with the PSR rules?

They now have amortisation costs up to the eyeballs (last guess was they have somewhere around £100m a season in amortisation costs for players they've purchased in the last couple of years, and that's before they do ANYTHING else in the season concerned).  That's a difficult position to be in, but they ALSO have in incredible commercial operation, that dwarfs our own, and brings in many millions more than we do.  Their commercial revenue alone was over £200m last season, almost the same as our ENTIRE revenue.

They will need Champions League football soon, or there will be a firesale there in the next year or two.  Or they need to grow their own Grealish and flog him.

Aston Villa is a singular entity. As such it should be "is". Are is just wrong, and this is from someone who used to use are, until rightly corrected.

My wife is a fully paid up member of the grammar police, and it's one of her pet hates (I told her she should have never married a Brummie!) But not as much as the "Selco" builders warehouse ad you get on the radio - "it's where the trade go"  She proper kicks off at that one!!

Good to see that Villa has corrected the grammar faux-pas that occurred a few announcements ago. The last few have reverted to ‘Aston Villa is…’

Definitely biting here! It is not a faux pas, you can do both.

It's not even one limited company, it's several.

It's where the trade go.  = It's where the businesses go
It's where the trade goes. = It's where the business goes.

Or you can be grammar Nazis.

Just saw a headline that we'd accept a higher offer for Ramsey if Spurs were to come back in for him. But when I read the full thing it's just some guy who used to be a scout for us saying that we'd probably accept 30mil plus Lo Celso.

If we're set for FFP now we shouldn't need to sell Ramsey, but at the same time we seem to have a lot of midfielders, and we basically managed all of last season without him. Not sure we need Lo Celso in exchange though.

we are not letting Ramsey go for less than that Elliot kid at Newcastle & a shit player that Spurs want rid of...

One of the Leeds papers thinks we were talking to Leeds last week about Archie Gray. If true, that suggests we are still looking for another defensive  midfielder despite announcing Barrenechea.

It's all a bit 'Gerry and the Pacemakers' to our 'Beatles', isn't it?

And what's with Spurs man? Offering bits of used chewing gum for our really good players but paying top dollar to Leeds and Forest for two players that would be summed up best by an Alan Partridge shrug.

Can we expect a statement or marquee signing in the £50m plus bracket in this window, ie. similar to Diaby last summer?

I expect so, although I think with the number of players we have, it could be one out, one in, for the important first team spots. Like, we might not buy a right back, centre-half or striker unless we get acceptable offers for Cash, Carlos, Duran respectively. Otherwise we’ll be way over the 25.

I think we'll bring in a couple of big signings... as well as more movement with squad players.
