They stretched them all over even more years than they are now, before the rules banned them from doing so, they have sold a fair few players for decent money (eg Mount) and they already have a far greater income than us, even when we are in Europe and they aren't as was the case last year.

I suspect that £18.6m for two promising players will ultimately prove a bargain, like Rogers, even if they'll probably need a bit of time to adjust.

Emery loves him, we have no need to sell now, he wouldn't want to go. Seems like nonsense.

There's also the fact that he's a really bad, complicated injury that's almost certainly not properly better yet. Nobody's going to take a risk on him with that, even if we did want to sell, which we don't.

It's not a case of being correct. Most people in the US use "is" for teams, and most people in the UK use "are". It's why "is" looks so jarring, over here we tend to think of the team as a collection of people rather than a singular entity. It's why we'd say "Aston Villa are playing away at West Ham for the first game of the season" and not "Aston Villa is playing away..."

Aston Villa is a singular entity. As such it should be "is". Are is just wrong, and this is from someone who used to use are, until rightly corrected.
