We're obliged to but the talk is that he'll be off to Bournemouth.

Good chance for him that. Team that plays half decent football instead of cro-magnan hoofball.
I wonder if that means Solanke is off?

What was the deal there? They paid £18m but if relegated they just send him back and get a full refund?

Donk, Hause, Chambers.

It goes to prove, the average fan can do a fair job of calling a dud when they’re signed.

Bit harsh. Hause was part of the team that got us promoted. Dendoncker was a deadline day signing and Chambers didn't cost much and did a job for us.

We're just moving on to bigger and better things. They played a role in that  but need to move on now.

There’s a spectrum with players like Mings and McGinn at one end and these guys much closer to the other end.

No one knows the figures, for sure, but they paid £xm (about 18-20), but if they were relegated we were obliged to buy him back for £Ym (about 15-ish) - which basically turned his season there into a loan for a few million quid, but gave us the benefit of the cash up front for PSR purposes last season.  It wasn't a case of us buying him back for exactly what they paid, it was less.

So that's four players in so far, who are all capable of playing in the first team (there might be some settling in required).  That's quite a lot even in a normal summer.  How many more can we realistically expect?  How many more will go to make room?

Dougie, Lenglet, Tim and Zanilio out of the first team squad, these four in.  We probably need a slightly bigger squad anyway, so three or four more in and one or two out?

Thanks for the answers on that, was interested to know. I think he’ll most likely be off again anyway.

Those 3 players Markee mentioned were not duds at all. They all dropped off a bit when better players replaced them but all had their moments early in their Villa careers, all with good attitudes as well as far as I could see.

Thanks for the good times Dougie.... When you were good, you were great, but when you were off it, you were frustratingly awful (*Olympiacos at home springs to mind when Unai nearly burst a blood vessel screaming at him). From that moment on, I felt that if we were to lose any of our players, it would be him.

Happy with the incomings, and now we're into a new financial PSR year, I'm sure there will be more to come.... Also, not to forget that we also have both Mings, JJ and Buendia coming back for preseason, with Kamara around Xmas, so personally, I think we're looking pretty strong.

Jacob Tamswell, Villa correspondent at The Athletic, said they paid £9m of the £18m up front, and as they went down, the agreement was they send him back not having to pay the rest.
