Chelsea continue to game the system.  You hope it will all come crashing down, but they'll probably be saved by a relaxing of the rules in the next few years.

Reports that we now want Weston McKennie and Iling Jr, plus EUR 20m for our Doug.

It does look like he is going, one way or another.

And the deal will be structured at Illing worth 30, mckennie 20 plus the cash value so for FFP purposes we don't fall foul.

Then, with Barkley coming in, we're arguably stronger overall and have more depth, but without the mercurial talent that Luiz showed last season.

Yep, wouldn't be too bad a deal, assuming Emery can get the best out of McKennie. Gets us out of an FFP hole, brings in two players and some cash, in the area we're arguably strongest.

Apologies if I'm being thick, but if we do a swap deal like that, can we treat the value of the incoming player(s) as cash income for PSR purposes, i.e. if McKennie is 'worth' £25m, can we log £25m in the books?

Yes, so it seems.

Illing-Junior would be interesting given he's played at (left) wing-back a lot for Juve. Feels like he would be an interesting option for that side given he could play pretty much anywhere from front to back. And 40+ games for Juventus by the age of 20 isn't shabby at all.

The big downside will be people not realising that his surname is Illing-Junior. Rather than the Mr Illing's son with the same first name.

Know very little about McKennie and even less about Iling. Have there been any reputable journalists reporting on it yet? Either way, if it happens, it's a risk, but one we would presumably not take if Unai wasn't happy with it.

It's just the same Italian media churning various versions of the same story, with the only think we can surmise is that the Italian press really want Luiz, but don't think Juve have got the money to sign him.

It's very weird not having that familiar knot of anxiety in my stomach about the villa's transfer activity, my faith in unai is total.

I didnt know that. So we could claim £20m in fees and suggest player (A) was for worth £30m and (B) £20m to bank £70m on the books? And presumably allow the seller to pop £30m in profit.

That's intriguing.

Obviously the players have to be at a reasonable market rate so that we don't get twatted with the points deduction stick. But otherwise yes, whether you do a straight sale or take somebody in part ex, it doesn't have any effect on the overall value for PSR purposes.
