Franciacorta is basically my favourite thing on earth.

Nothing like a Ca' del Bosco zéro dosage. Franciacorta deffo underappreciated – at least outside Italy.

Unlike Rovato, to be fair.

I could cope with even Rovato if the compensation was a case of that a month. Zéro dosage Franciacorta, holy hell, that is my language.

I'm guessing that from the grapes used Franciaorta is quite similar to Champagne? Not sure I've ever seen it for sale in the UK.

Very, with pinot meunier subbed out for pinot bianco. They're much stricter on the blending rules too. Given its similarities to Champagne it is a bit niche on the export front, but you can find it here and there (used to sell a bit of Berlucchi where I worked back in Edinburgh). Considerably cheaper than Champagne too.

It's the production method that is the same, rather than the grapes (although they're similar). Tends to be less mineral and more floral than Champagne.
The main big beasts for export would be Bellavista and Ca' Del Bosco, but Cavalleri and (the very excellent) Gatti are well worth a punt if you can find them.

May I say that I think eye digress (and boy is that ever an appropriate forum name!) is a top addition to the forum, and an example of the extra class we can expect as a club in the Emery era.

Also, to get horribly on topic for a second, Gobby Marcotti does think that we could get McKennie cheap, that the whole point of signing him would therefore be to not sell a major star, and that he's at the very least a really good pro and could do well for us. Just a thought.
