There's a bit too much noise around Dougie for my liking.  In my opinion, we should be building our team around him not swapping him for someone who did a great invisible man impression at Leeds.

Obviously with the usual caveats about trusting Emery etc etc.

I imagine it's a view shared by everyone but some kid in a bedroom in northern Italy's version of Stevenage.

I'm told that it's actually quite nice in the centre, but I was once stuck in Rovato (near Brescia) due to an almighty train meltdown, and the bit I saw was the bleakest town you could dream of.

Telford says hello.

[Avoids eye contact, crosses street]

Telford is Tamworth's evil twin.

Dougie is now entering his last two years on his contract I think. This is traditionally when we have looked to do a new deal.

So it may be that his agent is upping his profile in preparation, or it could be that if we know he isn't prepared to sign a new deal then we would be looking to cash in while we can.

I've only been to Tamworth once, but it struck me as a nice place. I grew up in Telford, and it has never struck me as a nice place!

Really hoping the McKennie for Dougie talk is nonsense.

Would seem like a massive downgrade.

We’ve been looking into relocating in the Telford direction as that’s where Mrs E’s sister lives, but you’re putting me off the idea now!

I've only been to Telford once and I felt like I was in the Upsidedown.

TBH, from your starting point Chernobyl is an upgrade. And you are already used to the pointing at the silver godbirds in the sky so that won't be an issue either.

There are some nice places around it though, like Much Wenlock for example as well as others.
Not sure about Tamworth being any sort of twin with Telford as I think Tamworth (which is nice by the way) dates back the best part of 1000 years whereas Telford was born in the 1960s. I could be talking bollox though as I’m no expert in such things.

To be fair it's fine if you just want plenty of room and to mind your own business. If you're looking for culture, public transport, an absence of ennui or people without tattoos on their necks, I'd look elsewhere.

I'd also add that I haven't been there for donks because I made a pledge to myself that I would never go again.

Telford is a blight on an otherwise beautiful county. I thought the same as you re Tamworth - wasn't it the capital of England at one point?

Fabrizio Romano@FabrizioRomano
🚨🟣🔵 EXCL: Aston Villa have reached verbal agreement with Luton Town to sign Ross Barkley.

Understand fee will be around £5m.

Final part needed, medical tests and player’s formal signature — agreement on player side expected at the beginning of July.

Here we go, soon

£5m ??????????????

Be interesting to see how much that actually is.

Romano was way off on his Zaniolo figures...

We nearly moved to Telford at the end of the 1970s, my mum and dad plumped for Milton Keynes as their new town of choice instead though.

£5m seems strange, so can only assume his "1 year deal" at Luton wasn't actually a "1 year deal".  But if he's under contract, £5m isn't very much, so it feels like a strange one.  Did Luton give him a "relegation release fee" clause?

Ancient capital of the Kingdom of Mercia, I think
