Archer won’t stay because of the PSR implications of buying back a player we’ve already sold a year previously.
Do we actually know the precise terms under which we will be re-signing him? I would have thought they would have been fairly favourable for us in these circumstances - i.e., we’d be buying him back at something of a discount and less the value of the year elapsed on his contract - £6-9 millionish?

I heard one of the podcasters saying we probably got the equivalent of a £9m loan fee, as they paid £9m up front and the alternatives were, pay the rest of the £18m if they stayed up, or send him back.

Pretty good business if that's the case.

I thought we agreed that I the event of them going down we had to pay what they paid us. And if they'd stayed up, and we'd decided we wanted him back, that there was an additional £7m to pay.

Plenty of rumblings on t'interwebnet that Dougie wants out of B6 6HE.

If true, then off you go son - swap you for £60m+ crisp ones.

Adding fringe/peripheral players as well as Carlos/Duran and we could have £100m+ in the kitty from player sales alone.

Throw in £25-30m from general income and Monchi's got £125-£130m.

Get a couple of shrewd end of contract Bosmans  (a la Kamara/Tielemans) and you've got enough left over for 4 or 5 decent signings, not forgetting some loanees?

It’s not like household finances where if you get a £50 a week rise you’ve got another £50 a week to spend.

If we got £60m for one player like Dougie who’s transfer fee has been amortised, we’d be able to spend around £200m.

That could be what Emery actually wants to do, when considering how to make us competitive in the CL and at the top of the league.
Yeah, but it doesn't quite work like that either. Sure, we can spend £200m and spread it over 5 year contracts so it's close to £60m a season once wages are included ... but then you're paying £60m a season for 5 seasons anyway.

There's no magic way out of it, you have to balance the books either now or later. We can't just go spending £££ this season and think that it's not going to have an impact next season, the season after, and so on.

Well, hopefully the money we invest in players leads to increases in revenue. It’s worked perfectly well so far, apart from Gerrard’s signings, the incompetent Scouse twat. We’ve got a good half dozen amortised assets who are worth their weight in gold, and as time goes on, Rogers, Duran, Pau, Diaby etc will join that club - current members - Tielemans, Kamara, Dougie, Konsa, Big Emi, SJM, Watkins, Bailey, JJ.

Sell one, buy two or three a season and you’re laughing.

I’m not sure, just reporting what I heard, and I’m not sure if the podcaster knew for sure either.

Well we've missed out on Mbappe.

Deal agreed with Real until 2029, earning 15m euros (£12.8m) a season, plus a 150m euro (£128m) signing-on bonus to be paid over five years, and he will keep a percentage of his image rights.

Not referring to you here, but to the squealing twitter commenators - Romano, for example - I do wish they'd STFU about M'Bappé - is there a more boring fucking story in football than the ongoing saga of where the toxic twat is playing next season?

Agreed. Mbappé's career so far just reads like a list of all the most hateable things about modern football.

I really do not understand the McKennie talk. If they really want Dougie, it should be £60-70m plus Soule and go sign a better player than McKennie ffs. He was crap, in a relegated Leeds team.

Looks like a 90s cartoon character. Should have been managed by Wenger.

Corriere dello Sport claiming that Juve want Dougie in a swap deal where we get Weston McKennie plus €7-8m.

It's a flat £125 mill if Uuuve want Douglas Luiz.

Or £150 mill + if they want to include McKennie as part of the deal.

Personally, I had interpreted the hiatus to it being a done deal pending the opening of the window before being announced.
