The Italian sports media is the equivalent of Football Insider for their fantasy Juventus stuff. So in answer to Eamonn's question, not strong in the slightest. Nobody in Italy could afford the fee.

It's true, they're reliable enough on everyone except Juve, of whom the coverage is like that of a feverish 12 year old fan.

I don't get why Archer is being written off after his season-long 'loan'. I would imagine under Emery he would be able to refind his excellent finishing in matches either as a sub or even as an alternative approach to Watkins.

Given Archer didn't exactly set the place on fire last season he'd presumably be happy enough spending this season as backup, learning from Ollie and Emery. I'm not sure who else would be interested in signing him permanently other than a repeat of this season with a newly promoted side, which could end up going the same way for him.

If he's around for preseason and Duran is really pushing for a move away, I don't think we're in any worse position than we were last season. Ollie is the number 2 name on the teamsheet every week, I don't see us signing anyone that changes that anytime soon.

If we could get someone in midfield that has a season like Cole Palmer or Phil Foden, then we probably don't need to be spending money on another out and out striker in the next 2 windows. (Rogers was shaping up very nicely before injury, and a fully fit JJ could be the answer.)

Corriere dello Sport claiming that Juve want Dougie in a swap deal where we get Weston McKennie plus €7-8m.

Im sure they do want him for that "deal".

But then again, I want to marry Jennifer Connelly or Lela Loren & live in a castle on the moon, but then reality punches me in the face & reminds me that Juventus have as much of getting Douglas Luiz for a shit footballer & a few pennies, as I do at getting my dream.

Fucking jokers...

Archer won’t stay because of the PSR implications of buying back a player we’ve already sold a year previously.

... unless, as Percy from this parish says, the PSR calcs are more favourable than people think. His cost would not be wildly significant on an amortisation rate of £2-3m per year (depending on the length of contract), and we'd add back a homegrown element. The cost, for a premier-league experienced back-up across the front line, would represent good value.

Emery doesn't rate him
Well, you say that with great confidence. Maybe the sale was always a gamble that SheffU would fail to stay up and we'd get him back for less than we received. His record of 4 from 30 games ain't great but he was playing in a side that was utter dross.

I'm not advocating strongly for this but it may be a good solution to the back-uo striker role.

Plenty of rumblings on t'interwebnet that Dougie wants out of B6 6HE.

If true, then off you go son - swap you for £60m+ crisp ones.

Adding fringe/peripheral players as well as Carlos/Duran and we could have £100m+ in the kitty from player sales alone.

Throw in £25-30m from general income and Monchi's got £125-£130m.

Get a couple of shrewd end of contract Bosmans  (a la Kamara/Tielemans) and you've got enough left over for 4 or 5 decent signings, not forgetting some loanees?

It’s not like household finances where if you get a £50 a week rise you’ve got another £50 a week to spend.

If we got £60m for one player like Dougie who’s transfer fee has been amortised, we’d be able to spend around £200m.

That could be what Emery actually wants to do, when considering how to make us competitive in the CL and at the top of the league.
Yeah, but it doesn't quite work like that either. Sure, we can spend £200m and spread it over 5 year contracts so it's close to £60m a season once wages are included ... but then you're paying £60m a season for 5 seasons anyway.

There's no magic way out of it, you have to balance the books either now or later. We can't just go spending £££ this season and think that it's not going to have an impact next season, the season after, and so on.

Well we've missed out on Mbappe.

Deal agreed with Real until 2029, earning 15m euros (£12.8m) a season, plus a 150m euro (£128m) signing-on bonus to be paid over five years, and he will keep a percentage of his image rights.

I couldn't be more relaxed about the transfer window. We're building, developing and improving year on year. Maybe Luiz is going and that's why we're rumours to be after Gallagher and Barkley. If so, I trust what we're doing.

Good, he's overrated (plus he always looks.miserable).

If Douglas Luiz does move on then I wouldn't be overly concerned.  Yes, he's a quality player, but central midfield should be a relatively straightforward position in which to find a quality replacement if the resources are there.

We have a few players in the side who would be very hard to replace, but I think Luiz would be down that particular list.   That's not saying that I want Luiz to leave or don't rate him.

Do we actually know the precise terms under which we will be re-signing him? I would have thought they would have been fairly favourable for us in these circumstances - i.e., we’d be buying him back at something of a discount and less the value of the year elapsed on his contract - £6-9 millionish?
