He looks exactly the kind of player I expect we will sign.  Raw diamond for Unai to polish

The main problem with that 'we give you Duran, you give us him, then we ammortise this and you do that and home grown and this plus that' etc is that we end up with Conor Gallagher.

And his Moth collection.

Our defensive record in the 14 games since Kamara has been injured, conceded 29.

In the 14 he played before his ACL I think we conceded 14 goals.

Over xmas when he was suspended we conceded 6 goals in three games and couldn't keep clean sheets v either Burnley or Sheffield United at home.

That says it all for me. We can't go through the summer fudging the DM issue because he'll be back halfway through next season.

Do it and we'll drop off in the league like Newcastle have done.

Yep too right SoccerHQ, we need to sort that role out. It痴 certainly essential to how we play and it brings out the best in Dougie too.

If you include the games where he was suspended, it is 35, I think.

So overall it's pretty much two goals every game he dosen't feature in and then a goal a game or less when he is starting regularly.

There has never been more statistical use in Football with all the xG metrics and other data sources to scout and sign players.

However you don't need to run those algorithms to see we're far weaker defensively without him so a credible DM needs to be signed at some point in the next three months otherwise we'll continue to struggle start of next season.

I'm sure Unai and Monchi are on it.

Take that defensive record into the start of next season and suddenly we値l be chasing games and the feel good factor could vanish.

With the state of the match threads, we only need to concede a goal and the feel good factor could vanish.

With the state of the match threads, we only need to concede a goal throw-in and the feel good factor could vanish.

Fixed that.

Well yeah, if with most of the absentees back and hopefully some quality additions in we still defend like we have in the second half of the season it痴 a problem. But I think with a proper squad to choose from we値l be much closer to what we were in the first half of the season.

Probably couldn't afford him, but Palhinha would be perfect.

Christ.

Like, say, the first match of this season where we got pounded 5-1? That wasn't carried forward very long was it?

Yep, it's the immediate priority. We've actually got a negative goal difference in the 14 games since he got injured. (Although a large bit of that was down to the non-performance today, to be fair).

Agreed. Without Kamara it's fallen to Luiz to be the defensive midfielder, and that's not his best role. The player we need is basically the player that we want Luiz to be, if he could do that role.

So someone who can be a better defensive midfielder than Luiz if he needs to play for Kamara, but a better controlling / passing / shooting midfielder that Kamara if he needs to play for Luiz.

So that any two in midfield of Kamara - Luiz - Other doesn't diminish the way we play.
