Europe do have separate rules though (70% of something instead of 80%), which apparently is why we voted against probably that ruling at one point.

The point still stands that our revenue has massively increased, and at a much faster rate than our wage bill. So we may not have been compliant with UEFA's rules historically, but we'll probably be fine with some appropriate management.

This is the kind of thing that, had we not qualified for CL, might have gained some legs.  But now, nah.

There's also this https://www.dontbuythesun.co.uk/sport/27945408/aston-villa-transfer-champions-league/

We will have to 'rule out a romantic reunion with Jack Grealish' because we can't spend (sorry for Sun link).

Just qualified for CL, but it's doom and gloom in the national media.

Yes they are starting their campaign to derail us straight away as they are so annoyed at our qualification!
Quoted just to fuck up the link to those ******.

Exclusive: Aston Villa Want 23-Year-Old Star After Sealing UCL Football
BY DANNY RUST

Aston Villa have set their sights on landing Angel Gomes in the wake of booking their place in Europe's elite club competition next season

https://www.givemesport.com/aston-villa-transfer-news-want-angel-gomes-sealing-champions-league-villa-park/

The pros are he would be cheap, homegrown, and plays as a 6 or an 8. The cons are that he is very small (1.6m)

Aston Villa in big race for Mexican talent – Transfer would only be announced later in the summer

Aston Villa are one of the clubs who are interested in UNAM Pumas winger César Huerta, according to reports from Mexico.

Sound like agent talk but it's nice to see us link to players in the south American press

That never held N'Golo Kanté back. He'd also get the Footy seal of approval.

As a counterpoint if the Lille commentary is anything to go by, he pronounces his surname "Goams", rather than "Go-mejz" and I think that'll get really annoying.

Sound like agent talk but it's nice to see us link to players in the south American press

Is Mexico South America?

Regardless, would be nice to have a Mexican player at the club from a marketing point of view. We could do a whole pre season tour of North/South/Central America and develop a strong fanbase over there.

Aston Villa star’s social media activity hints that he wants to join Chelsea

One club that has been interested in Duran in the past is Chelsea and going off of the player’s social media activity, the Villa star would be open to moving to Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old’s likes section on X is full of Chelsea-related content and many fans have taken that as a hint that the Blues may sign the forward ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

https://www.caughtoffside.com/2024/05/16/aston-villa-chelsea/

I'm not sure what to think about this. He wants more games than we can give him, and if we could get £35m for him, it would help solve a lot of problems, including FFP.
