What's the Mexican forward like at Feynoord that Forest have been turned down by?

Great scoring record but for every Van Nistelrooy there’s three Alfonso Alves’ so I’d be wary of Eredivise goal scorers.

Or a Bergkamp, Gullit or Van Basten.

🚨💣 Aston Villa are pushing to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord!
@mjmarr_star

#avfc pushing to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord ahead of Friday's deadline. Talks ongoing for a while but injury to Matty Cash means Villa even more keen to get the deal over the line.

I’ve never seen him play and I’m generally nervous of defenders from the Eredevisie as it’s the equivalent of the SPL in terms of quality but lots seem to rate him…hopefully they’ve seen him play :-)

We definitely need another defender in so if he is the identified one that’s good by me

His pretty quick, has great upper body strength and can play in a few different positions (most importantly centre mid). All of those are things I'd look for in a player coming in from a weaker league to show they can handle the extra physicality of English football. The versatility part is huge because Emery seems to like to have a few players who he can move around as he tweaks his tactics.

That all sounds v positive!!

I just wondered, in our potential need for a forward, if while watching the defender fella, we might have cast an eye over the forward as an option to replace Diaby

He's not really that sort of player. Probably the sort of thing we'd have looked at if someone had chucked £100m at us for Watkins.

If we were looking at Diaby replacements while watching Feyenoord we'd probably have gone for Minteh who went to Brighton.

I wonder if someone still might watching his performance against them on Sat night.

If we're signing someone to repalce Diaby (which we should) I want it to be a massive name, not someone who's had a decent season or 2 in a league like that. Felix would've been good, someone with plenty of ability but who could also sell some shirts and generate a bit of a buzz.

On that basis I'd look at Dybala. He's rejected a move to Saudi because he still wants to play for Argentina so there's clearly still an appetite there. He's a bit older than I'd like but still has a good few years at his best and importantly he doesn't seem ready to take a step back yet.

I think the issue with Dybala is that for all those signing-Felix-would-be-just-like-signing-Coutinho comments, signing Dybala actually would be a bit like signing Coutinho.

His body is just a bit broken now, and with the added physicality of the Premier League over Serie A it's hard to see him getting any sort of rhythm going.

I wouldn't be against it as he's clearly a smashing player, but it would be a big risk for a big wage.

Rejecting a €75m three year Saudi contract had the Roma fans turning up outside his house to demonstrate their gratitude. Sadly I can't see him moving right now. Good call though.

He managed 2600+ minutes over 39 appearances last season so he's not as broken as some have suggested. I agree the premier league is a bit more physical but at the €3m Roma were willing to accept from SA it's not much of a risk outside of wages.

Indeed, but worth asking I'd say.

Of course. I was more referring to players who have scored plenty over there then struggled here or not had the same impact. Kezman, Janssen, Depay.
I’ll give you Suarez and Bergkamp in the goal scoring stakes!

But is that "some are good / some are bad" ratio any worse than anywhere else?

Watkins is evidence that we should sign strikers who score loads of goals in the Championship. Scott Hogan is evidence that we shouldn't. Benteke is evidence we should sign strikers who score loads of goals in Belgium. Wesley is evidence that we shouldn't.

I just think that the "Eredivisie strikers are a risk" has become one of those accepted things that isn't actually true.

edit - or rather, more true for that league than it is for any other.

Wages are the biggest issue though. He'd be worth a season on loan and we could still pay £3m as a loan fee.
