The thing that would bother me about Sterling is did we have any interest in him before last Sunday afternoon? If he was someone Monchi had on his list, or we'd tried to buy before, and now he's suddenly available then I'd be open to it. But if its literally just oh look, that guy is for sale now, then it's a bit Zaniolo/Lenglet for me.

Loan players are nearly always going to be players that are surplus to requirements but that their club hasn't been able to get rid of permanently. So I'd be very surprised if we'd had Sterling on any lists, because we definitely wouldn't have been buying him and we wouldn't have expected him to be available.

But if part of the plan "we've got loads of money for Diaby and let's replace him the best loan attacker that we can find towards the end of August and put all that money into Onana, these are a few names that might be available at that point" and then Sterling's name appeared - then that's perfectly alright in my book.

Would not be my choice but agree with your sentiment. And Sterling is definitely not shite.

That Samu Ormandroyd from Athletico is getting some traction on X
lots saying we made a bid already

He would be an interesting buy.

I like the idea of having three strikers battling for the single spot, especially when one of them is a 6'4" physical specimen because that would offer us something that neither Watkins or Duran offer us & thats a striker that holds up the ball.

And don't get me wrong, I am in no way diminishing the style of play of either Watkins or Duran, as both offer us excellent options up front, with Watkins movement & recent finishing ability & Durans absolute chaos. Both are fine players in their own right.

But to have a 6'4" physical specimen holding up the ball, as well as the other twos abilities, would be a great option to have depending in the opposition & how their defenders play.

Thats if we sign him obviously.

I would like it to happen...

Yeah, no

Please please please not Sterling, apart from anything else he is monumentally selfish on the ball, it would be terrible for Ollie having to play with him. There’s a reason no one else wants him.

Guardian has picked up on Sterling now. Jacob Steinberg is close to what’s happening at Chelsea.

We'd be mad not to consider Sterling if available on loan.

Agreed, he also would be striker cover. He’s pretty versatile.

He definitely is. Look how poor he was last year for chelsea.  He is getting worse as each season goes on. His stock has fallen massively

On Sterling....

🚨 There is a sense that Villa could be open to a loan deal if a workaround can be found on the wage packet.

No relation to Ian but the chap you're on about is Samuel Omorodion. That rumour started yesterday by Footyinsiders Pete O'Rourke and he's a waste of space.

Yeah, thats probably the most likely scenario.

I wouldn't mind swapping Duran for Omorodion, if the choice was to bring him in if we sold Duran. Mostly due to the attitude & maturity issues with Duran.

Obviously, the ideal option would be to have them all, but thats the most unlikely scenario.

But I wouldn't be against swapping the two (selling Duran separately & bringing in Omorodion separately) for the reasons I mentioned in the post you quoted about him being a 6'4" physical specimen & the options he would give us from the bench that are different from Watkins style of play.

Plus he is young & has a lot of potential to grow into.

You think that a player is going to be just the same in the mother of all basket cases as he is when working under Emery and co?

You clearly don't think Emery is up to much then.
