Just be clear Tielemans is a good player, and offers plenty, but he isn’t as effective as Doug at his best. We may have to lose Doug to try and strengthen more widely, but he’d be a massive loss.

I disagree about Tielemans. I think he's also got a cooler head than Doug.

Tielemans can't play 50+ matches a year.

Walking yellow card, if Arsenal offered >80m I’d back Monchi and Emery to invest it in 2-3 players. I was devastated when we sold Platt, but Big Ron did well with the money.

Better Luiz than Watkins, Martinez, or Ramsey.

He’s a good player but we need to strengthen in 2-3 other positions and have Tielemans already to replace him.

I don't think its any coincidence that Doug's form for the first half of the season directly coincided with our dominant stretch. Be careful what you wish for. Tielemans is hardly cover for Doug. He had 10 goals and 10 assists this year, with a tough 2 months covering for Kamara's injury.

I think it’s Kamara’s absence that impacted Dougie’s game a lot. He’s thrived playing alongside a more defensive, tactically astute partner. Kamara is great at sensing danger and corrects a lot even just with his positioning. You could even say that Cash hasn’t been as good without Kamara as he quite often dropped into that space on the right when Cash bombed on. Getting cover for Kamara must be our priority this summer both as cover and as another option.

Luiz would be a loss but imagine what Emery could do with £80-100M , I'd be confident of improvement to the overall squad .

Yeah, I'm not too keen to count the years in Ligue 1. But, he's done it twice in England.. not since 2021 and he's had injuries every year since then.

Dougie is a far more reliable player and the best ability is availability. He played almost 3,100 minutes this year while Youri was at 1,800 and has only gotten over 3,000 minutes once in his career in 2020.. and while Youri was great he clearly struggles to play all 90.

I agree about Tielemans, on his best form he's another level to Luiz on his best form.

Fabrizio has spoken and says Emery is pushing for the Barkley move to happen.

He spoke two days ago, but Tim missed it.

He's repeating himself for Tim's benefit.

As much as I like Ramsey, I’d far rather keep Luiz

That latest tweet is the biggest load of nothing really.

Are we still in a position where we need to sell one? Is that what's driving this speculation? I've lost track.

If Ramsey can recapture his pre-foot injury form I would not want to lose him.

I think Barkley is cheap cover for Tielemans, ie that player who can play in any and all of the midfield places if required. Probably even as number 10 if needed.

Maybe Barkley will show up as a model pro and be happy to play anywhere and everywhere just to get minutes on the pitch. But nothing in his career to date suggests that he will. Cover for Luiz or Tielemans isn't what we need. I don't think it's a great move for Barkley either.

Except for the season he's just finished.

Luton played him in the same position most weeks, that simply won't happen with us. He will be back to being a squad player.

I think, despite some initial reservations, we got the best value from shopping at the relegated teams last season. Perhaps we'll do it again with Barkley. Although, I'm not sure there's that many other players that covered themselves in glory this past season. (Doughty worth a punt, I reckon)

Monchi wasn't bought here to sift through relegation jumble surely ? i'd imagine his remit is wider and more informed and planned .
