You don’t name a price unless he’s for sale. Time to shit or get off the pot Chelsea or Arsenal.

Both sides are "anchoring" by releasing extreme valuations.  Get a number out there (early/loudly) and all negotiations will be linked to that figure.  Boris Johnson's Brexit bus for example.

I thought it was understood that our policy is to state a price and tell the player that he only goes if someone meets that valuation. Also dependant on the player wanting a move.
It doesn’t work if the player cuts up rough and try’s to force a club to sell at a lower price see Isaac. I think Newcastle did everyone a favour by getting the full price from Liverpool.
You could definitely see those twats at Arsenal trying it on, hopefully Rogers isn’t that type.

Every player on the planet is for sale at the right price. By saying 130m minimum we've hopefully put off anyone wasting our time with low ball offers. And at least it indicates there's no buyout clause at a lower price.

Agreed. For £130m, it would be a fair deal.

Providing we have add-ons on top of the £130m.

Arsenal are a direct competitor, any price needs to reflect that. We have to make it expensive for them to strengthen, we know they have the money.

Why do a reasonable deal with them which weakens us, strengthens them, leaves us with only enough funds to strengthen a little, but leaves them with enough funds remaining to go out and strengthen even more?

If Arsenal buy him and end the deal not worried that they have overpaid, then we didn't take them for enough.

Is the sell on fee 20% of the fee or 20% of the profit?

These contracts are nearly always written up as 20% of the profit. Not to say that they all are, but that would be the more usual.

So we need them to pay £117 million to get £100 million if I have worked it out correctly.

Although on numbers of this magniture, it obviously doesn't make a massive difference. If he went for £100m (for ease of maths), then 20% of the £85m profit is £17m, rather than £20m of the £100m fee.

£125m for £100m

Edit: Ignore. Didn't see the part about profit only and no idea what the final price is we've paid Boro though I imagine every add-on clause has been activated.

15m was the reported fee if all add-ons were paid iirc.

If we don't want to sell then he's not for sale, if he's not for sale there's no price tag.
