My biggest conclusion was that we must have an amazing manager if only one player is recognised in the top 100.

The list has always felt about 18 months or so out of date, every year.

True plus it relies on the TV games broadcast around the world, for example, how else would Liverpool's MacAllister get ranked number 35? It's just as well MacAllister plays for Argentina as he wouldn't get in Scotland's midfield. If he played for us he'd be sitting in the bench.

I'm glad you bought him up as I've never rated him whatsoever, absolute plodder.

He seems to spend more time on his arse looking like he has just had the shit kicked out of him, with his whiney little face.

To be fair, a lot of midfielders wouldn't get in to our starting XI.

Indeed.  A good deal of that is surely down to the coaching being so amazing that the team is greater than the sum of its parts.  But it's also because we do have sensational footballers.  There aren't many players I'd swap with Rogers, McGinn, Tielemanns and Kamara.

Not bad for aboult £14m between them.

Yeah but signing-on fees for two of them and their agents.

Saw that.

Can't believe he would be top 10.

Equally, can't believe he wouldn't be top 100.

Something must give.

It'll definitely be the second one.
Verdict is in!

Bayonets in attack position.

Would probably have been a similar tale from 1980-82. Didn't do us any harm.

He'll be in the top 10 in two years when his form has nosedived and we've binned him off to Albion.

He finished 105th in the voting if it makes anybody feel better about this massive miscarriage of justice.

I mean, hopefully he does himself. Arbitrary (perceived) affronts to ego do often motivate athletes, they are a strange breed. That said, not sure if many players read the Graun.

Konsa, Watkins and Tielemans were the only other Villa players to receive any votes.

Seems about right. Maybe the Pau of the last 12 games, but then, they've been his only good 12 games this year. And McGinn is more a great player within the context of the team and the club, if that makes sense.

Don't tell the Smirker, but Ollie had been in the top 100 the past few years.

Yes, the voting system is such that the attention falls on the glamour clubs/countries.

That's why there's no Tielemans, etc.

I am surprised however, that the young player of the year of the world's foremost league competition is not a bit higher up.

Not that I'll be losing any sleep over it.
