Talking of transfers, who's this chap;

https://twitter.com/J_Tanswell/status/1682290581165207553?s=20

Misread it, looks like he's joining the club?

Some amusingly bitchy replies in that thread.

That made me laugh like a drain (you need to listen to his podcast appearances with Dan "Who?" Bardell to get the reference.

Matteo Retegui, Argentina/Italian 24yr old Boca Juniors player being linked...

Jeremy Doku still linked even though we're getting Diaby..

Still no keeper mentioned though.

That's an interesting link, I thought he was the best player for Italy against England (and scored their goal) a few months back and his scoring record has been very good for the last couple of years. Looks very strong as well, which would be useful in our squad.

Interesting regarding Konsa, I said towards the end of last season you know he's playing well when he's getting in front of attackers and getting fouled, he does it better than anyone, and that's the first time I've seen the stats to back it up.
It always makes me nervous when a defender tries to buy a foul though.  It's a risky strategy.

The Grauniad reporting the fee for Diaby as £43m with bonuses taking it up to just under £52m.

that seems a fair value to be honest and adds a few pennies to the coffers

There is a lot of media talk that we are still after Doku.

Obviously they are playing up the "Liverpool interest" avenue, but they seem to think we want him as well as Diaby...

Getting them both would provide a whole new dimension to our team

Latest Twitter link is Thiago Almada, 22 year Argentinian international winger from Atlanta United for £20m.
Yes, as well speaking Spanish and an MLS link he is an attacking  World Cup champion
Can see a transfer being done while Villa is in stateside it would be a fantastic acquisition he's too good for MLS.

If we sign another winger I'd say that's definitely the end of Bailey ball

Squad as it stands...

GK
Martinez
Olsen
Marschall
?

RB
Cash
Chambers/Konsa
?

LB
Moreno
Digne
Chrisene

CB
Konsa
Mings
Carlos
Torres
Chambers
Feeney

CM
Luiz
Kamara
McGinn
Tielemans
Ramsey J
Dendoncker
Sanson

AM
Coutinho
Buendia
Ramsey A
?

Forwards
Watkins
Bailey
Archer
Duran
Diaby
Traore
?

Looks pretty strong to me, with plenty of depth. I've put a question mark where I see us signing another player, so potentially 4 more, though with the covber at Right back I reckon we may leave it.

Very decent shot on him from outside the box and good with free kicks

Don't want to quote the whole thing but

I suspect we won't add another AM, McGinn and JJ are both comfortable in there.
I'm not sure why you put in Sanson and didn't include Donk, I guess you just forgot about him?
You've put Archer in twice.

I reckon 2-3 more and no major outgoings is the plan now. We'll definitely get another forward of some sort, I suspect we'll get a right back/utility defender and I'd hope we get a keeper but that's probably the most difficult one to fill right now.

Yup, interesting if true but we'll need to move quickly as they're queuing up to sign him in Italy. Price is a steal at something like €15m-€18m. We need Emi to give him a call. He's only ever played one game for Boca and that was off the bench but last season on loan at Tigre (Div.II) he couldn't stop scoring - 28 goals and 2 in 3 for Italy including one against England.

Could be a case of a late developer though he's only 24, his family were all very sporty and I think he played lots of different sports before settling on football at a late age. He reminds me of a South American Alan McInally. Risky business but he as Delboy says..

One of the squad’s strengths is that a few players can be easily allocated to different roles. Diaby, Bailey and Traore have played as a striker. SJM and Ramsey play some of their best football in the Buendia position.

The Konsa experiment as a RB is interesting too. If he adapts to that then I think we’ll become a more dynamic team.
