Well yes but I'd rather someone who can get 10-12 goals and also puts a shift in and gets involved in play other than scoring goals in about 1 in 3. He might well be capable of improving and fixing those problems but If we're talking about him as the most expensive signing in our history by a fair distance I'd want more assurance than 'maybe Emery can make him work harder and improve his passing so he's contributes when he isn't scoring'. If they go down and we can get him for £25-30m then I'd be all for it, but even with a seemingly big budget this summer £50m is a huge investment and, because he's not got the versatility to cover other positions, we'd need to spend more to add depth elsewhere as well.

According to Whoscored, he's played just under half his games as an orthodox left winger, just over half as the attacking left sided player in a front three, and four games as a forward in a front two. I'm not sure what else he should be doing as an attacking player to be honest.

Paul is right Leicester fans are very disappointed in Barnes.  They say he has talent but hasn’t a clue how to use it, lacks confidence and is generally a pussy.  Now if Unai can turn the likes of Luiz and Ramsey into world class players I’m sure he could do it with Barnes but I suspect he won’t want him as we will be recruiting to fit the team and even at his best he doesn’t fit

Just out of interest, is there any of their players Leicester fans rate this season?

Not that play for them, no.

They're saying the same about all their players though.

Cheers Mr D. So Leicester fans think Barnes and all his teammates are crap? Maybe not the best source for judging a player right now. I like Barnes but he's not and never will be a physical bastard like Bowen.

Cash and Young are not a RB duo that will get us into the top six, imo. Lacks dynamism, its a bit MON 2009. Get rid of one and get someone more technical like Moreno in, so we have aggressive attacking and solid defensive options on both sides. Digne's wages will probably keep him here but he can be solid for us and still offer something in attack.
Twp observations:
1. Young and Cash lacking dynamism is something I don't recognise. Both are pretty active and aggressive (when required); one is a former regular international and the other is a current regular pick for his (adopted) country; both sometimes get caught being too progressive. Emery may not actually be looking to emulate the left side of the pitch.
2. Digne has been a clear strategic sub during Emery's tenure: he is introduced into a game when Moreno has done his 60-70 minutes,  and he is played as a more defensive fullback. I think they may be a 'both / and', unless another club comes in with a deal for Digne that we could not turn down; or, Digne decides he needs to move on.
I agree here.  I could see us sticking with Moreno/Digne on the left hand side for as long as both of those are happy in that role.

Could imagine next season us bringing in a second rightback to have a similar attacking/defensive pair on that right hand side, and keeping Ash about as a (highly versatile) squad option.  If we're in Europe, could see him hitting 20-odd games fairly comfortably.

Crossing the ball more than 6 times all season?
Working to support his fullback?
Not regularly completing less than 60% of his passes?

Also, he's supposed to be on of the 2-3 best players in that team so why is 'in a struggling team' constantly used to defend him but he is absolved of any responsibility for them being a struggling team? He should've spent this season being a leader on the field but instead he's spend about half of their games having almost no impact on play.

I said earlier I'd take him for a lower fee but the more I look at it the less sure I am of even that, I'm just not convinced he's got the attitude or work ethic.

Yorkshire Evening post reporting we are looking at bringing in a cut-price Rodrigo from Leeds. Like all Villa transfers/rumours, Rodrigo has previously played for Emery. Leeds fans rate him but not as a lone striker. I still hope we bring in an alternative to Watkins. That's not to say Archer won't get minutes if we do. It would be negligent to start the season with just Watkins and Archer.

EDIT: Just discovered Rodrigo is 32 (THIRTY TWO). The same Rodrigo that signed for Benfica 14 years ago. Bloody hell. My guess is Footy is his agent.

Yes, I had proposed it the other day because Leeds' leading scorer had a fantastic year overall and is a seasoned pro.
If a player has the correct mentality and skills, I don't give a damn about their 30  plus age.

A cut price Rodrigp Moreno or Ayoze Perez on a free transfer from Leicester, in my opinion, would be a solid squad addition for the season when competing in Europe.

People may laugh, but the wider picture must be considered. Emery would be able to get along well with these two players, who speak both Spanish and English but who provide value and have Prem experience and technicians
So signing either would be in addition not as a statement signing
As Villa will be looking at some names and more expensive players we are certain to recruit.

There is a good reason why we will not be signing Ayoze Perez

He really is shit.

Like I saw with Rodrigo, I can see us linked to Perez. Although its not like a major hope that either will be signed, in the context of the squad, we can't count either out being signed. There are some merits for discussion on either player and how they would fit.

Living in Geordieland as I do, when Leicester bought Ayoze Perez they all thought all Christmases had come at once - he was woeful.

I thought his best period came when he was managed by Rafa Benítez

One of the most ineffective players I have ever seen.
