It’s been said he doesn’t like to give young players false hope. I don’t believe for a minute it’s a message to the owners who will back him. I don’t agree with it either but I believe this more than worry it’s a little dig.

As I said elsewhere, it’s rubbish because a youth team keeper on the bench as a second sub goalie has absolutely no chance of ever getting on. We had one central defender on the bench yesterday, and he ended up playing in midfield. An injury to Konsa or Mings after that and we’d have had nothing.

I read something last night that he said he needs 3 goalies for the warm ups and he's happy with 6 outfield subs.

I tend to think like Ian it may be subtle protest at the squad depth
It isn't just fill a place on the bench though like a comp winner. The player involved would need to be integrated into every aspect of the pre-match briefings / routine / warm-ups etc. I imagine Unai is a very thorough and meticulous man and would not want someone there if they weren't ready for every aspect of his match day (and prior days) experience. The goalkeeping unit is slightly different and you can see how / why the three working together makes sense so including all three is no problem). He did include Kaden a few times but has soon dropped him once he signed his professional contract.

Bit of a stretch, but wonder if it is really just covering absolutely every angle?  Now there are more subs allowed, it allows having two keepers just in case there is a freak situation where the sub keeper goes on and either gets injured or sent off.

He didn't do it when he had enough players to name a proper bench.

Not just Juan Pablo Angel at the game yesterday.

After a billion years, we have finally found out how to treat the people who kept the fabric of the club going through thick, thin, thicker and thinner

Well done to whoever thought this was a good idea.

But wait, there's more! Alan Wright and Mickey "with the oak-mickey" Oakes doing a Q&A soon!

Poor game of football, as one guy said to me on the way out of the ground "to think we have paid to watch that"

Just an aside I park by Aston Hall, the litter in that area is a disgrace, surely the King Edward VI school could organise a litter pick in the streets by the school or get a care taker to clean up the litter.

How the teachers etc.. walk past the litter on a daily basis and do not clean it up is beyond me.

The walk from the Barton’s to Aston Hall resembles a rubbish dump with houses built on it.

I do a weekly litter collection in Dudley with my wife around the streets where i live.

I would of thought that as it is a community school they would want to look after the area around the school

The best thing any of us could do about the rubbish is to not vote for a bunch of corrupt arseholes that starve local government of resources whilst doling it out to their mates

Saw my first Villa v Palace game in 1967. We've played them a lot over the years. There has never ever been a memorable game with them. In fact the only stand out Palace related thing I can think of was Dalians goal at Selhurst Park- and that was against Wimbledon !

The only memorable games against them for me was in division 2 (1987/88), we beat them 4-1 at home with a Mark Walters hat-trick and 1-1 away only for events off the pitch with Palace fans throwing dustbins at us in the corner!

3 points. Fairly drab game and Villa Park was flat as fuck. I expect better when I fly over for the match. Sing some songs you lazy buggers! Tsk!

More importantly, how was the curry at Shabab's?
Sound. Had poppadoms, mixed grill starter,
and a Keema Balti with 'ladyfingers', Madras hot. Mate had chicken Balti. Medium naan for two. Service was a bit long and the manager came over and apologised but we weren't too bothered to be honest. Few cans of Stella from the shop down the road. Lovely!

That sounds absolutely superb.

Is Shaban's the place with massive naans?

It wasn't a poor game of football. It was as solid a performance as you'd wish for given recent results.

You can see the players are adapting to new methods, patterns of play and positioning. The comments from Cash after the game show that they are adapting and learning.

Going back to the late 70s when I started watching the game the better teams retain possession and wait to exploit weaknesses. It's what we are trying to do and I'm all for it.

It was a poor spectacle if you were after an entertaining game of football. I don't mind, as give me a turgid 1-0 win any time over an entertaining defeat, but while we controlled the game you couldn't really argue we're playing well.

We’re adapting to modern possession football for the first time in what seems like aeons so I’m willing to cut the players/Manager a bit of slack at the moment. During this period we’ll get some good and drudgy stuff in equal measure. But yes Saturday wasn’t eye bleedingly Bruce-esque but it wasn’t flowing Atkinson ball either.

I was about to write “Trust the Process” but realised that would make the worst type of wanker imaginable.

It was a glimpse into what being a successful club is like - mid-table teams turn-up, you control the game, beat them by a single goal and move on to the next game. No last-minute dramas, no wishing what might have been...
