First of all, it's a win, making it two in a row now with two clean sheets.  Thought first half was OK, apart from the customary bits of sloppiness from the usual suspects.  Ollie Watkins missed an absolute sitter right on half-time to make it 2-0 and make things pretty comfortable.

We were just so lethargic and sloppy in the second half though.  Didn't really show any real ambition to extend the lead, even when they had a man sent off.  It was pretty painful to watch at times and you could sense that many in the crowd were bored more than anything else.

As for the players, I know it's still early days, but Moreno has looked less than convincing so far.  Ramsey and Buendia gave the ball away too many times between them and Douglas Luiz was too casual at times.  Thought McGinn had a good game today and that position suits him.

Palace aren't the mugs some seem to think they are. Last 7 games they've only lost to us and Man Utd. The 5 draws were all against sides in the top 9.

Didn't know that, but I'm surprised by it.

I thought they were shockingly bad.

Been on run of 4 draws I think I heard on a pod last night.

A win against possibly the worst coached team we’ve played this season. They rely on out muscling teams and have absolutely nothing going forward. We did enough, kept disciplined and won the game. That tackle from behind on Kamara was worthy of a straight red. 3 points, 2 wins on the bounce and very comfortable in 11th.  Emery has worked wonders with this squad so far so at last the future looks good.

A home win, clean sheet and a clinically taken goal. Good day apart from the worry about Kamara.

We never get a break with injuries so I fully expect him to be out for the season. >:(

I'm not sure that's the phrase I'd have used.

It wasn't great was it? It was one of those games where you struggled to pick a man of the match (Mcginn for me though). A second goal might have opened it up a bit but a wins a win and another clean sheet.

I thought the quality shown in the half time competition was pretty much in line with what came before and after.

A good win, a pretty shaky performance.

That ref has a lot to answer for with the Bouba injury. He was letting Palace get away with countless fouls, so they kept in doing it. It took a serious injury for him to actually produce the first yellow.

Was disappointed we didn’t try and really go for a second goal and was almost waiting for one of their late set pieces to go in. Still a great three points, thought SJM and Douggie were excellent.

I think VAR has more to answer for. It was a clear red card. And literally moments later the same player puts another awful challenge in and could have injured another Villa player. He should never have been in the position to.

Always good to get 3 points but bored me to tears though.

We didn’t play that well but another three points and a clean sheet, and we mostly handled Palace’s tricky front players very well. Not a classic but it will more than do.

Dean Smith was sitting about 4 rows in front of us, he seemed to enjoy the day.

Great article about the ten in a row on The Athletic. I can't believe the club didn't put out a DVD or a download of that season.
