A team in development, a manager in the relatively early stages of his tenure, little change in personnel so far yet some are expecting us to be the finished article already. There's enormous amounts of work to be done but if we can pick up results while we are progressing, this gaffer will do for me.

Yep. This really is a work in progress. Yesterday wasn't pretty  at times but like Chris said, against a team battling for their lives it was never going to be. Just enjoy the win and the clean sheet.

I don’t think it was a penalty after watching this a few times. I think there was clear contact with the ball .

I agree. No penalty, for me.

If we had been playing any decent team we would have conceded another 4.

This is impossible to know though. It seems to me, we were only marginally better against Brighton away and Spurs away, both games where we managed the game rather than played fluid football.  Everton aren’t very good granted, but a team fighting relegation and one managed by Dyche, will always be difficult. A win, a one that ended up being comfortable in the end, was really important after the last three games.

The things is that yesterday we gave away 15 shots. If you regularly give away 15-20 shots in a game, like we were doing in the bad runs that led to Smith and Gerrard getting the sack, you'll lose more often than not. A great result yesterday, but we didn't play well for an hour and still need to tighten up in midfield and defence. Luiz and Kamara are both lovely on the ball, but not very defensively sound. Onanda and Doucourre got past them both several times.

Martinez still only had one decent save to make. That was from three players allowing an uncontested cross into our box. Maybe that says more about Everton than us. Didn't think our midfield were really at it yesterday with the exception of Ramsey to a degree. But we were effectively playing with 10 men until Bailey went off. That liability cannot be underestimated either.

I am expecting them to do less shitting themselves when 'playing it out from the back™', to do less sloppy losing of the ball, to show for throw-ins in less time than it takes to do a soft-boiled egg, and am frustrated when we do but I am not necessarily throwing my toys out of the pram. 3 points is 3 points.

It's always nice chatting with others at away games who like us are not Birmingham based. I was in the lower tier near the Everton fans and the two lads next to me on my right were from Cambridge. On the walk back to the minibus afterwards got chatting with a lad from Leeds who travels with the Yorkshire Lions. All much more youthful! than me, so it's good to see that a younger breed of Villa fans is still willing to travel away from all parts of the UK. Still buzzing after another away win. UTV

The MOTD highlights showed a camera angle they didn't on Sky which clearly proved he didn't touch the ball.

Mist of those 'shots' were dribbling, desperate efforts from a team lacking any cutting edge, I wouldn't read too much into that stat.

Whether or not the Ollie/Pickford incident was a penalty (for me it was), I couldn’t believe or understand why not a single villa player appealed or made a fuss about the none decision.

If nothing else, wouldn’t a surrounding of the ref make them look at the incident?

Without wishing to give my age away, if they start giving fouls for those, never mind penalties, we might as well all pack it in.

Yes I think the ref got both calls spot on.
