I think that was a huge win.  It was as scrappy and desperate a match as one could expect from a fixture involving a Sean Dyche team, and I'm delighted we fought our way through it. Psychologically it's good to get past the 30 points mark and look up the table, too.  Very well done Unai and team!

If we ever get to a point in our future were we have to go for Dyche, that'll be it for me. We were'nt great by any stretch of the imagination but fuck me they were rancid. Seemed there whole game plan was built around getting the ball to McNeil and thats it.

Special mention to Ollie for 5 in a row.

According to the Beeb, it's a record for a Villa player in the Premier League.

Apparently the last player to score in five consecutive games for Villa was Paul Rideout.

Yes, that surprised me as well (in 84/85 according to the MOTD commentator).

Was nervous throughout, until the 2nd went in.

Very glad to see that consecutive losses do not accumulate under Mr Emery; we would have lost that under Gerrard and probably even Deano, as Everton played with more confidence and grit under Mr Dyche and we were coming off three previous displays of defensive collapses/errors

Does Martinez get booked every time we win?

Very good.

Weathered the storm first half, which we don’t usually do. I knew if we did, we’d go on to win it.

I thought today showed up really well just what these two managers have to work with. Villa aren't 'ship four goals at home to Leicester' bad and Everton aren't 'beat the league leaders' good. Villa aren't good for a lot but won't be in the relegation mix, whereas Everton simply don't score enough to be anything like safe. It'll be very, very close for them.

Nah psychologically we know we're better than this Everton. It's now 6 wins in 8 v them since coming back up.

We were poor but I think that record helped us at 0-0 to keep believing we'd win as long as we scored first and so it played out.

Now compare that to our recent run v West Ham which is horrific. I'm pretty certain if it's 0-0 there after an hour in two weeks we'll be at complete panic stations everytime they get a set piece or have a decent attack.

Very interesting to study considering the profile of both teams is pretty similar.

Ugly win but we'll take it! Key moment was Mings clearing it off the line and obviously getting Buendia on. Mixed performance but we finished strong.

Martinez 7 - one quality save in first half, not much else to deal with. Stupid yellow
Cash 6 - awful first half but to be fair solid second half
Konsa 3 - rubbish in every facet of his play
Mings 8 - saved a certain goal, solid throughout and played key ball up to Watkins for the second
Digne 6 - not a fan usually but solid enough today and put one on a plate for Watkins before going off
Kamara 6 - put Watkins through in first half but didn't think our CM duo were on it today
Luiz 6 - same above, sloppy today at times and needs to be stronger in duels
McGinn 7 - struggled with pace of game but key contributions to both goals
Ramsey 7 - best game in a good while, countered well and worked harder than usual
Bailey 3 - a complete passenger, don't think Emery will be giving him many more starts away from home
Watkins 7 - missed two big chances and a poor first half but great peno and excellent play for the second

Buendia 8 - put McGinn in for the peno with his first touch and sent Coady for a pint of milk on his way to the second
Moreno 6 - some nice play with the ball but defensively Luiz had to do a lot of covering when he came on.

One of those we didn't win was the 1-1 in the relegation fight in our first season back. El Ghazi missed an absolute sitter to make it 2 nil. Really should have won that one.

Not a great performance but frankly who cares! Cracking goal from Emi2, thought he had a big impact when he came on.

Very happy for Ollie, superb run of form.

The West Ham record is not helped by our midfield acting as if Rice has an invisible forcefield around him at all times.

Delighted with the 3 points, it was never going to be pretty against DycheBall. Onwards and upwards!

Paul Rideout the last in 1985 for us to do it as per commentator on mine
