A text book away performance, for the first 60 minutes I thought we dominated the ball with nice intricate passing without offering much of a threat but made the scummers chase the ball without any success.

Kamara excelled again making the right decisions and passes looking totally comfortable on the ball, I can't remember the last time we had a defensive midfielder this good.

Bailey offered very little and we certainly need an update, imagine how much better we will be when Emery gets his type of players in.

Scummers had a ten minute spell from about 60 minutes but jeez they lack quality all over the pitch.

We finally have a manager that knows how to get results, can't wait to see how we improve once he gets his type of players in.

We’re certainly improving. 575 passes today.. that’s a lot. Good movement off the ball, great pressing to break up play, two-thirds of the possession  and a bit of luck.

Thought we were good in the first half and pretty dominant without scoring.  Thought we came off it a bit in the 2nd half though and gave the ball away too often.  I thought they got quite a bit of joy down our left hand side in the second half with Buendia and Moreno struggling to contain them at times.

All that said, a good result away from home to continue our good run of form.  The table is starting to look interesting!

And we finally win in our third kit. It's been a while (I think)

We were discussing this on the train home. Last win we could recall was Burnley away 3 years ago

I thought we were ok today but rarely threatened in a poor game. A great game to win as we ground it out without ever shining . It’s good to be looking up rather than down again.

Utterly cheated by the worthless cheating ****ing ****s officiating today.

Villa cheating every time they got tackled got them the three points despite being by far the worst team we’ve seen at St Mary’s this season.

 Utter ****ing scandal.

:)

They have seen one worse team…the home one

How satisfying to see a goal celebrated by mimicking a golf drive getting disallowed. Ward-Prouse didn’t put his virtual club back in his virtual caddy… golf wanker!

Worst part of the day was the Villa shirt, horrible, why couldn't we wear our colours.

He'll have less days off in the Championship with the scheduling of fixtures down there.

Less time for golf. Shame.

Golf wanker.

Before today we'd apparently won once in the last 15 games we wore our third kit. And that win was Burnley.

I
Dominated/controlled the game yet two or three key decisions went for us so you could argue we also rode our luck.

I don't think we rode our luck at all.

The first 'goal' was clearly offside - two of their players.

The VAR intervention, he pushed Ramsey AND clipped his foot.

Decisions being correct isn't riding our luck.

Agreed. The highlights made the most of every Southampton chance, but their offside (incorrectly called 'marginal' by the co-commentator) was clear, and the foul on Ramsey wasn't deliberate, I don't think, but it was definitely a foul.

Same with all the newspaper reports this morning.  All the focus is on Southampton being unlucky because of those two incidents but we were rarely in trouble and if you look at the stats they tell a very different story.  May be we were unlucky not to score more…..

Didn’t follow the game in the most part, got in the car to find out Southampton had scored, followed by, according to 5Live, much protesting from our players then it’s finally ruled out, not sure what for?
Looked at the score on my phone in the shop and Ollie had scored.
No clue how we played, whether it was deserved or not but a great 3 points and that’s, I think, 3 away league wins on the bounce. Moving on up, get in there!!

The southampton player trod on Ramseys heel as the cross came over, it was a clear foul no matter how many people call it soft.

Yes, you (and Edvard) called it correctly.

We definitely could've had another couple, while their main chances were correctly ruled out. On the balance of play, a draw or one-goal win either way was about right, and we got that because we have better players and a better manager.

Gutted for you, Southampton, but if you think you were in some way cheated out of points, no wonder you're bottom.

The worry is despite owning the ball, and utterly dominating midfield, we really struggled to create genuine chances against the worst team in the league. Moreno, Ramsey, Buendia, Bailey weren't at it, while Coutinho had little impact when he came on either. Nothing wrong with a goal from an old fashioned set piece, mind. Been a while since we scored from one it seems.

Bailey could have scored a hat-trick and Ramsey had two penalty-shouts. We made chances, we just didn't take them.
