I
Dominated/controlled the game yet two or three key decisions went for us so you could argue we also rode our luck.

I don't think we rode our luck at all.

The first 'goal' was clearly offside - two of their players.

The VAR intervention, he pushed Ramsey AND clipped his foot.

Decisions being correct isn't riding our luck.

Totally agree - Ramsey could readily have had a penalty in the first half

Has there been any official comment about the bench? Only naming 8 instead of 9, and two of them being keepers? Why no U21s to make up the numbers? Where was KKH?

We had 9.

Olsen, Sinisalo, Cash, Chambers, Revan, Dendoncker, Sanson, Coutinho and Young.

Ah, Revan isn't listed on the BBC report, so thought it was only 8.  Glad there was another youngster out there making up the numbers.
He's not listed on the official website or on the guardian either.

Dunno, he's on the social media graphic the club put out (and was shared in the match thread). More importantly he was sat on the bench.

I'm surprised at some of the comments on here: "grinded out a result", "decisions went for us", etc.
We won that game by being in control of it, pretty much from start to finish. We moved the ball well and supported each other really well. What I particularly liked was the contrast in players: Ramsey's graft worked well with Kamara's total ease and Luiz's reading of the game. There's much to be proud of, and talk of Sourhampton's occasional chances (and the 2 rightly-disallowed 'goals') is mere frippery.
I was disappointed with Buendia's wayward passing and Bailey's awful misses (I'm afraid the latter just isn't good enough). I was also unimpressed with Moreno, but then he is new to the squad.
Another midfielder like Guendouzi is a must, as is a combative and confident winger / striker. Then, we really will start to look good.
I was pretty impressed with today's game (thanks to Bad English for the link to a decent stream).

Another weekend unspoiled. I could get used to this.

This.

How did Moreno perform today?

Not great I thought, still settling in.

He did okay for me I like the fact that he is positive and likes to move the ball forward quickly
Should have had an assist if Bailey hadn’t taken it off Watkins toes

Anyway I like him and think he will only improve

Did he manage to get forward much and provide an attacking out ball?

We are turning into that mid table side that we’ve seen so many times rock up at Villa Park and just win away from home. Love it

Thought he was ok first half mostly. Gets up and down much more than Digne does.

I thought he was poor, got dribbled past too easily and positioning wasn't great.

Gets a pass though, being his first start.

Moreno was OKish, but in any case, like when we replaced Targett with Digne, it's a bit of an upgrade but not a key signing that's going to transform us. We need better players than Bailey and Buendia so those two become squad players rather than nailed on starters, as they're both infuriatingly inconsistent.

And we finally win in our third kit. It's been a while (I think)
