Luton, Burnley, Sheffield Utd, Bournemouth, Palace - that's eight points gained from goals after 88+ minutes. Not good for the stress levels, but it's too frequent to be a fluke. Think the Man Utd is the only time we've lost a point to a late goal. Which is very outside the sort of thing we're used to having served up.
If there's any validity in my perspective, I'm sure it's not an original one (and if there isn't, it probably is!), but it seems to me that Unai has adapted his style in a big way since the introduction of VAR. When he came to us I thought we were getting a canny, but defensive manager (a bit like Benitez). I don't watch enough European (or even English) football to be sure, but it feels to me that's how he won most of his European trophies. But we don't play that way. We feel like massive risk-takers a lot of the time. I think it's because he's decided he can trust the VAR for offside in both directions and so he's decided to take advantage of that in a way other managers don't. I dunno, it just feels like he's given us even more than we we were expecting. More please!
52 league games as manager and 32 wins is, quite simply, remarkable.
Although I think there has only been once when VAR has had to assist us defensively to override a goal. Most calls are on-field and correct (albeit either a late flag or not needed as it is cleared).
