A year ago tomorrow we were losing 1-0 at home to West Ham and looking clueless, and had these words of wisdom from our manager after the game

Quote
"The only thing we can do now is act and try to put it right. I am all in to make that happen and my staff are but it has to come from within the players as well and the players have got to really stay together and find results now to move us up the table.

Quote
"We either feel sorry for ourselves and it continues or we roll our sleeves up, stick together and try to put it right. I need to lead that and that is what I'll try to do."

Every time I read something that Stevie Mee said during his tenure at Villa, it makes me want to track down Sawaris and kiss his feet for losing his rag and getting Emery.

Imagine if we actually backed him with some proper money.

This seems a strange comment.

I think Emery has been backed as he wants. He has a lot of control at the club and is working closely with the owners and Monchi to bring in and sell who he wants. Just because we haven’t spent £50m doesn’t mean he hasn’t been backed. We are playing within the financial rules and trying to get the calibre of player that makes us better. Not spending for the sake of it.

Since Unai Emery took charge in November 2022, only Manchester City (10) and Arsenal (9) have won more Premier League away games than Aston Villa (7).
Great stat that one.

Until we grow our income substantially we will always have to be careful about how we do business when trying to compete with clubs with much higher levels of income.
That has nothing to do with being “backed”

And we've won 8 home games in a row. We just win a lot these days.

The introduction of the 3421 is going to cause headaches for lots of teams trying to counter how we set up.

Also be interesting to see where any new signing would fit in too.

People think it’s a strange comment.  We’ve bought in Tielemans on a free from a relegated side.  Diaby yes brilliant player with add ons who knows.  Torres £33m great business.  Zaniolo loan fee.  We’ve got some bad injuries.  The youngster sales in the last year have somewhat offset the total spend.  We were moaning in January about the lack of spend.  Last year we spend by comparison Fcuk all.

We are still a replacement keeper, back up right back and back up proven striker away from challenging for the top four.  We need to back him this week seriously.

Our net spend is lower than Bournemouth’s.

Maybe we need to bring a couple more in but I'm not worried about the net spend at all. I dont understand why people are. Jamie Vardy cost Leicester a million quid and he helped them win the the title. If we can pick up players like Tielemans and Kamara for fuck all, then I'm all for it. I bet other clubs wish they had.

I think the having spent really not much in net terms so far puts us in a position whereby if someone spendy but very good becomes available in the next four days, we can make a move for them.

We are on the crest of a fabulous wave.  Get the extra players we need this week and anything is possible.

We had 8 players on the bench today including two keepers.  We need more depth.  Now.

Put it this way.  When Luiz went down in the first minute I was holding my hands in front of my eyes.  We are always a nats chuff away from a vital injury.

So is pretty much every club in the world.
